We need Jacoby in there as a WR

GP

Go Texans!
David Anderson catches passes. I get that.

But Jacoby Jones makes big plays. We NEED that.

Not going to say that Jacoby is tons better than David. But to me, there is one guy who has up-the-field & stretch-the-field capabilities, and the other guy is a shorter version of Kevin Walter.

Short legs take longer to get to the first down marker.

What? You actually think he's being used less than Anderson?

They got issues, but how they rotate the receivers is not one of them.

Yeah, I don't get why you're targeting DA here. DA has his role - 3rd down specialist. And he delivers far more often than not. In fact, today's effort to come up short ranks on a very short list of times he's failed to get the 1st down when targeted.

That isn't Jacoby's role even if you swap the two.

Andre Davis oddly was in for more plays than Jacoby Jones

Didn't Jacoby earn his reps?
This is what I'd do. AD has always supposed to have been the vertical deep threat guy, and we seldom use him that way. I'd swap Jacoby and AD on the DC and see how it played out, if it were me. They can fill similar roles, and AD hasn't been spectacular like he was his first year here.

I seem to recall AD becoming spectacular the last time AJ got hurt.
That's the stretch to which I was referring. He also did great on kick returns. He has never really shown that since. JJ, meanwhile, has seized his opportunities this year (finally) and is on the verge of forcing the coaching staff's hands. AD needs to do that, if he wants to be out there. Waiting for AJ to get hurt to show up is not going to cut it.

And I'm not really anti-AD. I'm just saying that if I have to target a guy to replace with JJ, it's AD because they seem to fill similar roles. I like A fine.

Enchilada Aficionado.
why we don't send him on laserbeam routes up the field more often, i dunno... to have that kinda weapon and not even at least threaten to use it makes no sense to me.

I think JJ needs to be in there also. He's like Chris Henry without the child molestation charges. David Anderson and Jabbar Gaffney are the same player with a different skin. Just call him Jabbar Anderson. Makes the catch but the yak is non existent.

I think that was mostly with Sage as the QB, though.

Schaub seems to get into a rhythm with one or two guys (usually OD and AJ) and the others are left with 2 or 3 catches all day...and might not even get many looks in the first place.

There seems to be games where he spreads it around, and some where all but two guys exist to him. I know that's having to do (some) with the way the defense is playing and what they're giving up to Schaub.

I don't remember Schaub really utilizing AD on a consistent basis.

If we were a true "spread" offense, Anderson would be the Wes Welker receiver. I'm seeing why Josh McDaniels wanted him in the off-season!

But we're not a true spread offense. We're a spread version of the West Coast Offense, using a freakish AJ (Jerry Rice) a great "hands and feet" TE Owen Daniels (Clark) and Steve Slaton (Roger Craig who ran AND caught the ball a lot, and was a good blocker in pass-pro).

All other receivers are utility guys. Lunchbox guys.

I just can't figure out what they're doing with him. Is he the guy who can score on a 30-yard play-action pass AND return punts. Or is he the punt return guy we use sparingly so we don't risk injuring our stellar punt returner on a pass play gone wrong?

Is Kubiak afraid of promoting JJ ahead of Anderson and/or Walter?

I just think it's weird. The guy is talented, and Steve Slaton hasn't lost many snaps after all of his fumbling problems.

Anderson isn't gonna be like Welker no matter how much you want him to be. He's Jabbar Anderson. He's the non-yak machine.

But I think that's because we haven't seen DA running the types of routes that Welker runs. It seems DA is doing lots of hitches, curls, and shallow stuff--As a "hot read" option when other things aren't there for Schaub.

If DA were running deeper slants and deeper come-backs, etc., he'd probably fare better. Such as in McDaniels' copycat spread offense he brought to Denver.

But yeah, here in Houston...he's a shorter version of Gaffney.

I won't argue the issue of "hands" between DA and JJ. But we've got two guys, OD and AJ, who are up-the-field players. One more of those types of WRs, which could be AD or JJ, I think it a better fit for our offense.

If you just watch both play you can tell Welker and Anderson are not even remotely the same player. Anderson has no running ability aka "yak"...just like Gaffney. Gaffney wasn't like Welker with the Pats either. The only thing Welker and Anderson have in common is that they are white wr's.

Doesn't AD backup AJ on the depth chart? Whereas, doesn't JJ backup Walter on the other side?

Would you cuss me if I said that JJ is better than Walter?

I'm not saying. I'm just saying....

(When it comes to making plays, once you HAVE the ball in your hands, I think JJ could produce more with what some other guys are getting)

I think JJ can score TDs. TDs are good.

The one similarity I see is working well in short space.

They have to stick them somewhere on the depth chart but where they do in an instance like this is pretty meaningless.

Heh . . I'd hit you with more cuss words than a drunken sailor if I thought you sincerely meant that, but I know you're just making conversation, so I'll cut you a little slack, GP. :)

Go after David Anderson all you want. But if anyone on this team is like Wes Welker, it's Kevin Walter.

We may have to rely on JJ and AD for deep threats next week. Hope, AJ's injury is not serious one! Please Please.

well now that Aj i nicked up u might get u wish

i say we rotate JJ and AD and some rookies hell for this problem

OD should be our number 1 target anywayz when AJ is not in the game

I think he's good with how they used him last week. On the field for some plays, maybe target him once or twice but I didn't even see him lined up at WR yesterday. Better than Walter hell no but legitimate threat to score from anywhere on the field hell yes. For 1st and 2nd downs any 3WR set should include JJ but on 3rd downs where a catch HAS to be made I'd put in DA.

I can go with that. Maybe a 3rd and very long you take a shot to JJ. Anything Dre Davis does, Jones does a little bit better, IMO. Don't get why Davis was on the field so much.

AD is not cutting it. He is small with no change of direction. He doesn't get separation on deep routes.
