Crabtree Starting As a "Virgin"

He didn't end his holdout until Oct 7......no OTA's.........no TC.........no preseason..............absolutely no exposure to NFL speed competition.

Out of desperation, the 9rs, having lost one of their WR starters, will push Crabtree onto an NFL field for the first time........against our hungry D. I expect our multiple D looks will confuse him into mistakes. His route running should glaringly expose his inexperience, with a good possibility that our D will see nice "returns"........if you know what I mean.

The 9rs do not have a high powered O that can stay up with a typical Texans number game. Out of necessity, I look for the 9rs to look to the air (and Crabtree) more than they should.........but pleasantly enough to see them bearing gifts for the awaiting Texans.
 
Not really worried about Crabtree so much as I am Frank Gore and the 49er D. I bet Demeco has a "dispute" with his "contract".....lay that boy out!!!!!

I really hope you are right. I thought the same thing about Sanchez "The Magic Quarterback" when we played him in week 1 based upon his low amount of starts in college and the overhyped, leg humping by the media. But we all know how we looked that game.

This is the first game in a very, very long time that I will have the opportunity to be in attendance at, so I really hope there is not a letdown from last weeks performance. I definitely think we can win the game, but this team has been so up and down lately that I wouldn't throw money on it. The only thing that I really don't like about this game is that the 49ers are actually a good team that got embarrassed at home to the Falcons and have had all week to prepare for us coming off their BYE week.

You are right in that our D is the key here in making a statement and our Offense needs to able to run against the 49ers D so we can use our bread and butter boots and PA plays.

I hope Dunte covers this dude! Maybe he'll get his chance to PROVE he's worth what he's asking! One money hungry AH against another! Hummmm, Dunte better have a good game!!! If Reeves/Bennett covers this jerk, well, Crabass will probably get his chance to gloat!! JMO!
 
This is good news for the Texans. Not even Calvin Johnson made much of an impact in his rookie season.

As someone else stated, I'd also love to see Crytree come over the middle and have Pollard or Cushing or someone give him a nice welcoming gift.

The way Reeves has been playing, I'm not that sure that Dunta would be the better choice to cover Crabtree.
 
Personally, I'd rather use a little more man-power to cover Vernon Davis. The 9ers have like 5 passing TD's and Davis has accounted for 3 of them. He's become a good TE under Mike.

Plus, Hill has thrown for an average of 180 yards a game. Covering Davis and stopping the run should be our primary focus. IMO, of course

I wouldn't try to equate the two situations. Sanchez did not go in "cold turkey." He signed in June in the middle of minicamp. He, therefore, also had the benefit of TC and preseason. Not seasoned, but certainly exposed to a simulation of the real world. Don't expect Crabtree's "clock" to be dirty by the end of the game.:rake:
 
I really don't think they will be throwing all that much to Crabtree. He'll probably be used as a decoy more than anything else. He may get a couple passes but I don't see how they can expect him to produce on the field with only a few weeks of NFL practices under his belt.
 
Can't wait for him to go over the middle and meet Bernard Pollard. One of those "Welcome to the NFL" moments

On the other hand, we've got zero tape of this guy to look at.

The texans do not have a good track record with unproven guys

That's my main point.

Way too many times I thought we ought to dominate some rookie or unproven guy and we end up making him look like a HOFer.:gun:

I don't see that happening this week though. I see the Texans making a statement game this week, getting back on a winning record and climbing back into the Playoff picture (early in the season as it may be).

True as that may be, he was still a rookie in game 1 on the road with a rookie head coach. That's really what got me on that game.
 
Crabtree will be effective, it gives them a legit down the field presence they need. They will still run the ball but play action for them has some real meaning now.

He will be focusing on down the field plays and he's got a good set of hands and skill, he doesn't need much practice to run down the field and go up and get a pass or two that. Heck just his presence in the game is going to force us to respect that now or else we get burned.
 
Hope he does not catch our guys relaxing. He was a good college receiver that messed up by not grabbing the offer and getting to camp.

Timing between him and his QB will still be a problem, even on straight runs. A QB may have a strong accurate arm and a WR may be a fast runner and great catcher, but a decent amount of time together must be had for the twain to meet.

You have plenty of tape, but it is college tape. Josh Morgan possess comparable tangibles, size speed height, and will likely has been running similar routes to what Crabtree will run this Sunday.

As far as actual prep AJ is a pretty good matchup comparison.
 
I fully expect Schaub to torch the 9ers defense and Crabtree to only get a look if he's wide open. It will be one of those "I saw someone in a gold jersey and chunked it his way" type of passes. Their run game is what concerns me, but considering they don't have much of a passing game, our hard-hitting secondary should be able to play up to protect the runs without much threat of getting beat deep. Here's hoping to two in a row. But what does Schaub do for that? He can't get a hair cut. Maybe wear a rug?

Reeves is our best corner. We need him on Crabtree.
 
Lets not forget, that the Forty-Niners are very talented defense that starts with its head coach. Saying that we are going to torch the defense is a bit "over the edge" for me. The real key to winning this game is......

Getting an early lead, and having the forty-niners rely on their passing game. If we get beat by the Niners passing game, than we dont deserve to win.

Timing on down the field routes is pretty basic, the guy has skill not sure if you watched any of the college games with this guy but there is a reason he was drafted in the first round.

Even if their timing is off it still forces us to stretch the defense giving them the ability to create plays behind the LB in front of the safeties since we have to respect the deep threat he creates. It creates problems for us and advantages for them. They are better off with him in the game than not.
 
I just wanna c Crabs get laid out a few times. Welcome to the NFL rook. I'm not worried about our corners 2 much anymore..... kay maybe a lil', but really I don't think Crabs is ready for the speed of the NFL yet. Light em' up Texans!!!:kingkong:

Reeves is our FASTEST corner, beyond that I'm not willing to grant anything. If your only worry w/ Crabtree is him getting behind the corners (much like Jacoby), then you put Reeves on him. In tight coverage, with jamming at the line, you use Dunta.

Poor timing on long passes lead to interceptions.
 
IMO it is better for Crabtree to get his first start in Texas then it would be for him to get his first start at Candlestick. I think he will be more "up" for this game.

I really don't think he will be a major factor, though, because our QB sucks and needs to be replaced. There is absolutely NO thread of the deep ball. We picked up Brandon Jones just for that purpose and he hasn't really seen the field due to an injury, but more importantly because Hill is garbage and has a noodle arm.


I am one of the few people on our forums saying that the Texans win. I hope to God I am wrong, but I doubt it. Sadly, my best friend is a Texans fan so I will never hear the end of it.

Why are you guys worried about Crabtree getting being your CBs? Our QB can't throw the ball 10 yards without it being a duck. Josh Morgan (starter before Crabtree signed) stated that Hill's deep ball "comes down like a punt". lol



Hill has a "summer" deep ball.

Summer picked off, summer not, but ALL of them are ducks.

IMO he should be the starting QB. He wasn't really given a chance to win the starting job (2 preseason qtrs) from Hill because of what Hill did vs non playoff teams down the stretch last season. Singletary had no choice but to start Hill.

Half the fans are calling for Smith, whom we hope has improved since being injured. As a fan of the Utah Utes I know that he needs to be in a system for at least a year before he can operate the offense efficiently. He hasn't had the same system two years in a row since he left Utah.

The other half of 49er fans label him as a bust (which he has been so far). They feel that since he sucked then, he sucks now.

I feel we have seen the best of Shaun Hill, but have yet to see the best of Alex Smith. Something tells me that Smith will be the QB after the Indy game even if Hill has a great game vs Houston, which I HIGHLY doubt happens.
 
I don't get the game at my house and I have been outside working on my roof. DId Crabtree get "welcomed" to the NFL? I saw his first catchw as for 4 yards and his second was for 18.

Did it happen like you guys wanted it too?

Also, congrats on the win (already, lol). It is as I expected. Our QB sucks, our line sucks, or defense is gettign hammered.

I'm depressed. lulz
 
Saw Michael Crabtree first hand at Reliant today. He's gonna be pretty good. He sure needs a QB though.

he can't throw a deep out worth a darn but can throw a nice seam pass in the middle of the field. The Texans gave him all day to throw the ball. He'll get more pressure from most NFL teams.

Sippin' on the haterade I see. It didn't have a whole lot to do with the Texan's pressure. Smith was getting rid of the ball right away, it's not like he was bakin' a turkey back there. Heck, you guys sacked us with a 3 man rush for cripes sake. Bottom line is that Smith played the best game of his career today.

However, I ain't ready to crown him. Not even close. I'm excited because there is some hope, but this was only one half of football. But it's possible that he matured and learned some in his 2 years out. Plus your guys' secondary isn't good. I'll crown his *** if he can keep it after this week and against better defenses.

You have every right to be excited, if I were you I'd be excited too (Lets face is Shaun Hill is...well a hill of beans), but you need to keep things in perspective.

The Texans did not game plan for Alex Smith, had no tape on Michael Crabtree (who's going to be a fantastic WR...his route running and body control are already well beyond his years), and they did not game plan for the 3 to 4 wr sets/spread offense that y'all rolled out with in the second half.

The QB we game planned for was a noodle armed inconsistent QB, who wasn't a big threat to throw down field. The 9ers put ALOT on tape today for other teams to now look at, teams are going to be WAY more prepared than we were.. (sadly they also put alot of stuff for the Colts and Dallas Clark to look at though as well...and we're going to have to deal with that :( ). So you might want to hold off just a little bit until Smith is doing this kind of stuff against a team that game planned for him and watched tape on him and can prepare for him and his new WR.

The next few weeks are going to be interesting for sure. Even if the 49ers get their asses kicked by the Colts and other teams that follow, it will be fun to tune in just to see if Smith is the real deal and to check out Crabtree's progress. And if Smith ends up stinking it up and we continue to meltdown, then at least I can remind myself of Carolina's miserable year and how we have their first round pick. :)

I hope not. I think this year for QBs is terrible. Plus we have Nate Davis to test out if Smith doesn't do anything.

I'd much rather have Eric Berry :). An OT or pass rusher would be sweet too
 
No matter what he did I was impressed with Crabtree. This game showed that he was working his tail off while out, getting ready for the time to play.
