Best way to Reliant from Austin?

HTown2ATX

TexansMetalhead
Just scored my first pair of tickets and a parking pass in a very, very long time to make the pilgrimage to Houston and watch my Texans! Just found out about an hour ago and am already friggin' pumped!! Already setting out my gameday gear damnit!:smiliedance:

So, as I haven't been in a good while and coming from Austin, just wanting some info.

I plan on having my buddy drive, we'll take 71 to I-10 into H-town.

After that, if I remember right, do I just take 610 over to Kirby and exit? Is that the best way? I don't know what color my pass is (will physically get my tix and pass Wednesday or Thursday and forgot to ask) but the lots are all next to each other so you just enter in the same place then find your color right?

Also, what time do they open the gates to the lots, because I plan on getting there as early as possible to A) Drink, B) Take it all in and commune with my fellow Texans fans and of course C) Drink (I aint driving so vugg it!!)

Any insider info would be appreciated instead of the directions you usually see on Google or whatever.

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!
:fans:

i took 290 to 610 to kirby exit when i went a couple times....i always had blue parking or I stayed at the holiday inn there by the stadium

Yep, 290 to 610 South. Follow 610 to the Main or Kirby exit, depending on where you are parking.

Edit, well I just read your post.

I 10 to 610 south works too

The lots open at 8:00 am (unless you are in platinum - 7:00 am for them)

I have made the trip overe 100 times and always take 71, much nicer ride.
If you hungry in the am, stop in Ellinger, thats outside of LaGrange and the speed drops to 55 for a short time. The store there Hruska's has some awesome food, and a killer deli.
If you go early then just take the route you have listed. We are leaving at 5am from SW Austin and will be driving with full gear blazing, maybe we will see you!

Yeah, I make the trip down 71 to I-10 whenever I go see my family out in Sugar Land, so I'm definitely familiar with the drive to Houston. I just haven't been to the 610/288ish area in a long while, so didn't remember the best way to get there once in Houston. Hruskas is great, usually always make my 1 pit stop there.

I usually try to stay away from 290 from here because of all the lights, lower speed limits, more cops (it seems) and I live in SW Austin too (between Dripping Springs and Oak HIll on 290W) so 71 is right up my alley.

All the different colored lots are pretty much right next to each other right? Or do I need specific directions per which lot I have?

You need specific directions to your lot. I'd find out what lot you're in but it'll be easy enough to find on gameday. The Texans are very good with their sign placement overall and you should be able to find your lot. Go to HoustonTexans.com and take a gander at their parking lots. If you're coming early enough... No worries. Just don't think that you're going to get into the stadium on time if you arrive an hour before. It's a good 20 minute trek from the yellow lot which is where I park to my seats so consider that factor. If you park in yellow, look for the TexanMojo Emergency Tailgating vehicle and go shotgun a beer. Even if you're not a drinker. There's nothing like that experience. Props to those guys!

Yeah, I think Yellow is where I have usually ended up in the past and I know that is a bear of a walk. I was at the Houston-Pittsburgh game a few years back when the roof was open and everyone fried (I think that game was a main reason for the 80-50 rule now). That walk SUCKED in that heat!!

I also think I did happen to run into that crew you mentioned once before. I ended up shotgunning a couple with the "Elvis" guy near a Texans themed UPS truck or Ambulance looking vehicle, so may have been them (was getting pretty bombed by that point and was a few years ago, but I think that was them).

Anyway, hell yes, looking forward to throwing a few back and hopefully getting involved in someones BBQ before hand (maybe trade up for some brews, will bring extras coldies!!) It's like Christmas for me man! I've already told most of my co-workers and am just pumped already!! I know alot of people go alot more than me, so maybe I sound ridiculous, but damn I love this team and hardly get a chance to go, so am hyped to the max about it!

:brando:

I've made the trip to Houston 100 times myself and usually take 290 only because my destination is typically on the NW side. This Saturday I will take 71 to 10 since we are in a hotel next to Reliant. Once you get past Bastrop on 71 the trip is nice. Either way works fine. Drive safe!

Repped for the Hruskas reference!!

Rep, huh? I'll check that out. Sounds like I've been overlooking something.

Is this what I'm looking for?

I think I'm the only one that doesn't know...lol

I hate 290. I take 71 to I-10 and I live by 290. Fewer speed traps.

I never take 290 because it's too dangerous compared to 71 and I-10. Long stretches w/o shoulders and no divider between cars heading east and cars heading west. Dying in a head-on collision because of some dumbass answering a text is something I try to avoid.

Congrats to the OP on the tickets. I wish I could go.

Hey, quit dissing SWT. He knows how to text perfectly.

:doot:

They both have their dangers. I-10 has lots of 18 wheelers and things fly off all the time. I should know. A little chain fell off and totaled my car a few years back. If that chain had bounced just a couple inches higher, I'd have no head. That's for sure.

Head-on collisions vs. dodging 18 wheelers. Choose your poison.

My best encounter on I-10 was right past Katy and had a mattress bounce off the back of a truck and fly just right over my head.

Yeah, I hope to meet some people from the board, once I get my lot color I'll know where I'm at.

I actually have met you, Rickyb, Specnatz, Nitro Honda, Axman and a bunch of others back when I was on here under the screen name H-Town Balla #90 and we all used to meet up at 3rd Base during the fevered height of the KEYE CBS Austin leg humping of VY in a titans uniform and no Texans games were on TV. I lost my log in for the screen name and don't have any idea what email address it was on, so I started this one.

I was there that 1st game when we straight took the place over and had the Texans chants and everything going. Fun times to be sure!!

Anyway, hope to see any of you guys Sunday and all drive safe! I'll update when I get my lot color.

I met you at that first game at 3rd base as well.

This makes trip # 74 and counting from Round Rock to Houston, and I prefer the 130 tollway to 71 to I-10 to Grand Ave Pkwy down to D-Ice's Garage in Sugarland!

Speaking of good food, take a side trip over into Smithville for some really great BBQ, Zimmerhanzels!
Man they have the best ribs, ever.

Go TEXANS!!!

Hruska's is delish, but the best kolache I've ever had was at the Czech Stop in West, Texas on I35.

I always took 71 to/from Austin, mainly because I lived in South Austin and my family lives in Sugar Land. I hate 290 myself.

Best ribs huh? I may have to check that out on the way back! I'm a brisket fanatic myself but can always throw down on some ribs!!

I think I know where that Ice House is but I may be thinking of another place. I always take 99 Grand Parkway from I-10. My family lives really close to the Highway 6 and Highway 90 interchange right by the Sugar Land Airport. I can't believe how much they have developed that area in the last 10 years!

Yeah, not a fan of 290.

Yep, remember you well now that you told me that, hope to see you there, I am in Blue but making it over to platinum for the Blue Crew. If you don't get parking use the hotel lot across the street or the Holiday Inn, its like $20.

You ALL know I make the trek every home game (approx 40 games)..... 71 to I-10 to 610 to Kirby is faster by about 20 mins atleast! also you can gain access to any lot from kirby.
My Beautiful Bride gave up her ticket to a buddy who is a niner fan, so we HAVE to give him the business on sunday! Also a client of mine flew in from Cali today and will be there sunday so I will bring them by the Blue Crew for some pre game harrasment!!!
Can't wait to see you guys!
Go Texans!!!

Yeah, cool and thanks. That's what I wasn't sure on is when I get into Houston on I-10 if 610 to Kirby was the best way or not. Sounds like it is, so that will be my plan.

The buddy that is driving has never been to an NFL game before, so I'm hoping we get involved in some good tailgating. Show him how it's done down in H-Town!

We'll have plenty of coldies on hand to drink and share for some BBQ if anyone has got anything going........let me know and we'll be there with some Shiners!

Pay attention to the signs as you near the stadium. Different lots use different exits. For example, if you are in the yellow lot, you will exit on Main.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I'm gonna get my tickets and parking pass tonight, so I'll know what color I have. Once, I find that out I'll update to see if anyone else on here is in my lot and best way at that point I guess.

You're bringing a Niners fan to Blue Crew??? WTF??!?! It's on!

:jk:

Just got my tix and parking pass.

I'm in Orange.

Person I got the tix from says the best way is exit Kirby off 610 then make my second left behind Reliant to hit Orange lot.

How far is it or how do I get to Blue if that's where all the action is and how early yall showing up cause we're down for whatever?!?!?!

So effing PUMPED!!!!!

GO TEXANS!!!

Just busted out all my gameday stuff (and I got alot)!!

What lot has the best tailgate action.

BigWig, I know you mentioned Blue Crew...are they in a Blue lot or what?

Yep thats where I will be. I have Blue but will hang with the Blue Crew in Platinum all morning. At least get to the Crew by 10 am for the morning toast, you can drink blue or red koolaid!

So did you make the Blue Crew in Platinum?
I was not introduced if you were there.

Naw, I didn't remember how to get to Platinum after beer 1...lol. We ended up getting there at about 9am and started tailgating in Orange. Actually met some cool people and got caught up in some brews and brisket till about 1120 when we walked up to the stadium. After the game we stayed till about 5, I wasn't driving, so i hit some more brews and brisket!!

Ended up being in section 118, row DD.....so right next to the BullPen on level 1!!

Been so busy here at work (working OT all week) I haven't really had a chance to post!

It was a blast and I will throw some pics on here later when I have a chance.....it was like a vacation for me man!!!

I actually got the Slaton screen TD on video and the last play of the game on video....great times!!!
