Kris Brown

Is it just me, or is Kris Brown not himself this season? He's missed a few field goals, he has come close on a couple of PAT's, and in particular, his kickoffs have been really short - often between the 10 and 15, giving the opponents several extra field position yards. Is it time to start looking for a new kicker?

I dont think Brown ever was that powerful on kickoffs. One of his missed field goals was blocked. But ya it would be nice to have somebody that could make a 60 yarder.

It wasn't too long ago he nailed a 57 yarder to beat the Dolphins, year before last I believe. Don't know what the result would be this season though.

IMO, both kicker and punter need to have a serious review this off season. Both seem to be fading. They have done great things here, but all good things come to an end.

2 of his 3 misses were blocked. I'm not too concerned about him, he missed an easy one but we've been scoring tds when we're in range (or turning the ball over) instead of kicking FGs this season. Since last season though we dont seem to be attempting FGs past the 35 yard line. We either punt or go for it on 4th down where we used to let Brown knock it through.

His kickoffs do concern me though.

Yeap. Thought the same thing today. Hopefully Kris gets things turned around, he seems like a great person.

No, but he could get his kicks higher or off quicker. Right now, if the game came down to a 50-yard field goal try, how much confidence would you have in KB? As much as I like the guy, I can't say I'd give more than 30-40% confidence.

I think he's going to be the next Ian Howefield for Houston again and lose us a big game we need, get rid of him now.

Are you serious!?

KB has probally been the most consistent player in Texans history!

He has only missed one field goal that was not blocked in 6 games, it's all good.

Wow. I really don't believe it. Whats wrong, Schaub not throwing interceptions at a fast enough rate, and people need someone else to start piling the pressure on?

I'll set aside the fact that Brown has been a heck of a consistent and loyal member of the team since the inception.

Last year the kid was freaking good. He hit 87.9% of field goals, was 2-3 on field goals over 50 yards, and was one of the most reliable things on our team.

This year he is 5 of 7 field goals, hasn't missed a PAT (as for the last few years), one of his 'misses' was a block. He hasn't been asked to kick anything over 40 yards (so why the 60 yard field goal kicker...I'm sure the 3 yards from his rough 57 yard best to 60 yards hasn't cost us that many points this year...

I say we keep Kris, obviously, and we can look for someone else to bandwagon hate on...

I think you're out of your mind. He's been stellar. from that range. Better than almost anyone in the league. The only reason he didn't go to the pro bowl last year is because of Bironas' gaudy numbers.

He's going to be fine. He's been streaky before but he settles in. He is probably out of practice because of all those pesky TD's.

FGs are fine but the kickoff could use a little more oomph.

Honestly if we're gonna get worried about a kicking situation I'd say lets go over Matt Turk's spot on the team first. It seems to me, especially after watching his body language after kicks that he had a pretty bad game yesterday.

M. Turk 5 punts for an average of 27 yards. Although he did nail 2 inside the 20 yard line. His long yesterday was 40 yards.

I agree. I mentioned something about his KO's a week or two ago. They have been shorter this season and the opposing team usually receives decent field position as a result.

Maybe somebody can find stats this?

Turks strength is his ability to place a kick inside the 10 or 5 yard line. Yesterday he kicked at least 2 at least 5-8 yards deep in the end zone. Not going to cut it

KB's kickoffs have been below average since last year at least. I am not worried about his FGs. Having a healthy Antwan Molden blazing down the field making plays on STs will do wonders for what ails us.

Geeeeezzzzz! I can't believe you guys! We come off a great win, good play on ALL SIDES OF THE BALL, according to the media and coaches, and you just HAVE to find something to ***** about!!

Kris missed ONE FG and had TWO blocked! ( ???his fault???) Yea, lets go trade him for Kauschka!!:sarcasm:

His kicks certainly looked MUCH better today. My guess is that he may have had the flue or something and is now over it.

I am ready to give up my first round. We no longer need a DT or FS or CB or power back or... sheesh.

Yes, he was much better yesterday. Good job Kris!

That field goal was awesome, yet scary as heck. Oh Lordy, if he had missed that.

So why not kick the 52 yarder to force them to get a TD rather than just get a FG to tie? It worked out but I don't get that one. I understand the field position, but still.

Kubiak didn't trust our defense at that point is my guess.

Was wondering if anyone would bring it up... With Kub's coaching style I expected the delay-and-punt on 4th down... I did tell my friend "man I'd let Brown come in and make it a 6-point lead", man infront of me said "You don't want them having the ball there if you miss", which makes sense, but I replied "Then why kick FGs at any point in the game? Might give the other team good field position with 10 minutes left in the first half or something..."

Brown looked good on the three PATs yesterday and GREAT on the FG he did make, I think if you bring KB in there to kick that 52-yarder he's going to be confident that you show confidence in him...

It's just one of those things that Kub does though, you understand it, you just wish he went the other way... I'm sure Kub had a similar situation backfire on him/his team once when they did attempt a FG, and though the percentages may be on KB's side, Kub doesn't want that to be the reason they lose again...

You see it a lot these days with HCs, NFL down to HS... something they do doesn't work for the first time out of 50 successful attempts, they catch heat for it and/or in reviewing the film highlight what they did as the reason for the loss and become conservative... but sometimes that conservatism in certain situations keeps you in the hole... you have to look at the percentages of the risks, not just the risks...

Look for a new kicker??? He hit a 56 yd field goal and choked on a 42... He lost the game and a playoff spot but he's the best we got. Same ol Texans........
