Watching Matt Schaub's first series tells me a lot.

I didn't say nothing until this last game, but watching Matt Schaub's first
series tells A LOT about how the TEAM will play. It's not about completions
with him. If he's showing pep in his step, this team will be tough to beat.

In ALL of this season's losses, Matt came out of the box looking like he
just left his hotel room. Like it or not, Schaub is the leader of this team.
How he starts, is how this team starts. I guess we'll have to wait 2 or 3
seasons before Cushing takes over that role.

Schaub is either Jamarcus Russell or Peyton Manning in terms of his
performance. He starts the game like Jamarcus, expect a long, embarrassing
day. Hopefully, Sunday is the start of an era in which the team no longer
humiliates its loyal fans.

It's tough being an admitted, open Texans fan Monday morning at work.
I BEG this team to quit humiliating me with this feast or famine bullshit.

Watching Matt Schaub's first series...

Usually makes me plow through my first bucket of beer in a matter of minutes.

VERY HARD goin to work on mondays while we are losing, me being a strong supporter of what or who i believe in, i shrug or argue it off, but MANNNN it would feel great on mondays to go to work after 5 straight wins or so, maybe playoffs, that would be great

thats not true matt can be warm & hot and then on FYA !!!!!!!

somtimes things just dont go our way

It seems like Matt's never been confident that he can step up in the pocket (and for good reason). I wish that we had an interior OL that could inspire such confidence. If we had that then Matt would have the huge numbers AND wins.

I'm not sure about "huge numbers" means much, when its accompanied by lapses of good judgement or lack of strong arm show when needed. But I agree you can't expect to have confidence and a feeling of security in your pocket, when like a coat pocket, it has a huge hole at the bottom where everything including a large apple can fall right through it.

I second that man :goodpost:

Indeed, which is why I think we'd see less of "bad Schaub" if he had the confidence to step up into the pocket consistently.

I'm not too concerned about Schaub's arm. Drew Brees has one of the weakest arms in the NFL and does well because he rarely makes a bad decision. That's what Schaub needs to fix, the bad decisions. He's a gambler and that's why we were able to tie the game up last week when we were down 21-0, but that's also why he threw the game deciding pick 6. We've gotta get more of the good side of gambling Schaub and less of the bad side to win with this team's makeup.

Haven't we gone down 21-0 twice this season and come back to tie it each time? Schaub's first series' have been generally out of rhythm and out of sync for whatever reason but its no indication of how he's gonna finish. The dude's pretty freaking clutch if you ask me.

And he has to be in our division

Pretty similar to when the best Oilers teams ever (and arguably the 2nd best NFL team over that time period) were in the same division as the Steelers who's dynasty was arguably the best teams in NFL history over that same time period. Except we dont have teams near the caliber of the Luv Ya Blue era Oilers.

The playcalling on the first series will tell me whether our coaches want to win this game or not.

If we come out with two runs up the middle for a loss and that a 3rd and 12 pass incomplete... well then we're dead.

I want us to score on our first drive and stop their first drive. That way I know both teams of ours showed up.

On a side note, is it just be or does the play-action stuff work best when we're hurrying the snaps, defenses have less time to focus and figure out what we're up to?

I don't know if I buy that statement. I've not seen Brees' targets have to wait on balls like I have with Schaub. Brees may not be able to throw through a brick wall, but he gets the ball into some tight spots with lots of zip on it. Schaub, not so much.

But I totally agree with you on him needing to improve on some of his decisions.

I feel ya on that. I mean, how many times do we have to see two runs
up the gut for 1 or 2 yards, followed by an incomplete pass out of the
shotgun formation?

Does Kubes think he's Lombardi? "Ya know what's comin' and ya can't stop
it."

Last year, the Texans were the best team in the NFL on 1st downs, AND
scoring on their first drives. This year, it's the exact opposite. Studdard
is playing like the offense's version of Frank Okam. He dominates on one
snap, and gets completely blown up on he next. Kubes REFUSES to
acknowledge Myers getting blown up every week (Thanks Kris Jenkins,)
and act's like it's SLATON'S fault he can't get a yard with 4 linemen in 2 yards
in the backfield.

Fine, Coach. You don't want to call players out on the mic, then start using
your bench. The offensive and defensive lines are killing this team, do
something about it.

Case in point...........the pathetic end zone pass to Dreessen.

My thoughts exactly. We have always played in the toughest division in football and we have always had one team that was our nemesis. However, we should be some teams because of that and we don't.

I'm beginning to become worried........Kubiak on the pregame show said they are still going to establish the run first. I'm feeling deja vu.:spin:
