Is there a reason we do not utilize a two tight end set

While watching the Falcons game on NFL Rewind, on the TD pass to Roddy White, Falcons line up with a two tight end set to the right. From here, it appears a run play, to the strong side. At the snap, Tony G. runs straight at his cover man, forcing him to turn the hips and run with him, Roddy White runs at his safety, then peels his route off and crosses the field to the endzone, where Ryan floats the ball to him.

I admit i don't know much about the actual assignments of our offense, but i was thinkin' while i should've been working at the office. Could we utilize Casey and Slaton as the two backs, with Dressen and Daniels as the two TE's, with AJ going over the top, or running a quick Slant. Also, out of this we can right to the right, and maybe spread Slaton across the field, as per (Obviously) we can't run between the tackles currently.

Oh, Hi all. Long, long time lurker, first time poster =)

AJ, Do the bengals like you did em last year. :wild:

We run tons of two tight end sets. Usually in a bunch on the strong side or as bookends. On the goal line we had 3.

We do run a lot two tight end, Dreesen and OD on that 4th down play a couple of weeks ago, but it doesn't do a lot of good in goal line situations, to have extra blockers on the edges when the interior of your line spends most of thier time on skates going backwards.

We should run more stretch plays then to get our RBs into space.

Running it up the gut = fail

Chris Brown anything = fail

The stretch play is not that effective either when the RB has to cut in the wrong direction because a lineman is pushed 4 yards into the backfield.

Stretch, toss, anything but straight up the middle.

Anytime that play is called everybody already knows it will fail.

Watching them call for Slaton up the middle twice last week was infuriating.

I agree we had a lot more success with quick hitters at the edge of the defense. The most effective inside run was the QB sneak.
