Anyone else catch this game? had to DVR it but well worth the watch.

Cannot get over how similar Tony Pike is to Matt Schaub. both 6-6 230ish excel @ throwing on run rolling out as well as standing in pocket. neither terribly mobile but can move the chains from time to time & have injury problems, Tony leaving the game with what they termed "sprained left wrist" but actually its a plate w/screws shifted where he broke it last year moved. I would say he is ahead of where Schaub was coming out of Virginia but should follow similar trend line, however with a shortage of capable QB's out there & success of another similar tall QB Joe Flacco he probably gets a late first rd. grade (which means some team moves up to draft him from 2nd).

Really impressed with South Florida DE's Jason Pierre-Paul (6-6 260) & George Selvie (6-4 245). Of course we've known about Selvie as one of the nations best pass rushing ends but where did JR. Jason Pierre-Paul come from? has NFL written all over him, be interesting if the scouts (reported 25 on hand) don't grade him out as one of the top DE's in the country by end of season tempting him to enter the NFL draft early.

Last but not least as far as the Texans are concerned So. Florida Nate Allen looks interesting @ 6-1 205 (NFL size) playmaking skills leds the team INT's & tackling. Looks like a solid 2nd rd. option, someone to keep an eye on...speaking of keeping an eye on was real impressed with their freshmen QB BJ Daniels the wildcat is custom made for him, Miami is probably chomping @ the bit to draft him.

Miami drafted Pat White. They don't need a Wildcat QB. Nate Allen isn't worth a 2nd rounder, he's a good player but he isn't a 2nd rounder.

Pierre Paul was a JUCO player, he really wanted to go to FSU but couldn't qualify academically for an ACC school. Apparently, alot of the guys on South Florida are guys who just couldn't qualify academically for the bigger schools, so they went to USF.

I'm a UC grad, so I had a good time watching that game, Pike injury notwithstanding.

I think the one thing you didn't really get to see was Mardy Gilyard showing his stuff. The USF special teams did an excellent job of getting downfield on punt coverage, robbing Gilyard of what he does best: return punts. The guy is an absolute terror on ST. And he's a pretty darn good receiver, but they had him blanketed the entire game. In fact, the whole USF defensive squad impressed me, except for that big run by our backup.

Another guy I really like is Isaiah Pead, who was picking up chunks of yardage in the second half. He's a sleeper RB pick whenever he decides to declare.

If some FSU players are reading at a 2nd grade level and some USF players don't qualify to go to the school, what does that mean for those players?

I think people underestimate how many football players don't care about academics. It starts in high school when they begin to think they can make it to the NFL.
