Brisiel's Foot Injury

Damn, well this sucks! Might have to switch from beer to liquor on gameday. This could get ugly.

You think that's bad... I'll be there Sunday.

Although knowing these 2 teams this year, it'll be some wack-o play with 14 seconds left to decide it. LOL

We may need to move this to the drunk therad...LOL

I'd post pictures, but I can't figure out how to get pass the password on my blackberry right now. It's taking me 10 minutes to post because I keep correcting my typing. Ugh. I'm still in gameday mode. (<---read: wasted)

Have you seen Khari's sig? Don;t worry baout it. LOL

Haha lol where did this thread go? I clicked on this thinking "wow a ton of replies in just a few mins about Brisiel"

“He finished the game with it,” coach Gary Kubiak said about Brisiel’s injury. “It doesn’t look good right now.”

Give him credit for fighting through that but no team should have a guy in there playing through some injury that winds up being season-ending. Both for the health of said player and the good of the team. Did he injure himself further by staying in the game? Did the injury sap him of the necessary strength on a certain goal line play?

Hopefully he gets healed up and comes back for us next year. Until then it would be nice to see what Caldwell is made of.

Valid questions I'd like to see answers to.

A couple of things. We don't know what the details are regarding his foot injury, and going from historical precedent, we probably won't find out.

But as someone who is sitting at home mending from major foot surgery, it's entirely probable that neither Brisiel or the team knew the extent of the injury at the time, and didn't find out until they ran a CT on the foot. When I injured my foot, at the time I just thought it was a bad sprain, and walked on it until I got to the hospital. As it turned out, I was walking on shattered bone, which caused the foot to swell up from all the soft tissue damage. It took a whole month for the swelling to go down just so they could operate on it.

I pray to God he doesn't have an injury like mine.

I dunno, how many starters does Kubiak need to lose from season-ending injuries before he's allowed an exemption for another less than satisfactory season and given another year to coach in Houston
by McNair ?

It sounds like Myers stays at C and Caldwell will start at RG. White will be the main swing guy. This is just from listening to Kubiak on 610 yesterday so things could change, but he said he wants to leave Studdard where he is and likes White as the swing guy.

I don't like seeing the big guys go out with injuries, but like someone else mentioned, it'd be hard to get much worse running the ball. Hopefully White or Caldwell will take this opportunity and run with it.

I reckon we'll hear the extent of the injury today?

I dunno is Caldwell actually stronger than Brisiel on rushing plays ?
I seem to recall he weights more, but does he have enough "junk in the trunk" to move the big DTs any better than Brisiel ?

My understanding of Kube's show on 610 yesterday:
1. Brisiel is out for season.
2. Foot was injured on the series ending the game and may have been factor in his performance that last play.
3. WHite and Caldwell to get time. My thought is White at center as he was #2 and Caldwell at guard. I know White has practiced at Center but not so sure Antoine has done much but guard. Certainly do not need any bad snaps.

On a side note, fans kept asking Gary if he would change his mind on running the ball. He kept saying you have to be able to run in the NFL and "we are not changing our philosophy." I kept expecting ND Kalu to say "Yeah, well how is that working for you?" This is what you get when you do not address a dire need position in the draft. He kept spreading the responsibility which is a cool thing for a coach but he did say the line did not open holes. With exception of Pitts, I think all the others were stronger on pass blocking skills for the ZBS that was installed. I think the coach may not know how to fix the Red Zone deficiency of the backs.

I dunno, but you can rest assured that he's keeping count, and dropping each one of them into the "circumstances beyond Kubiak's control" bucket.

It's very irritating to hear him talk. Hope he enjoys losing, cause the guy who doesn't adapt doesn't win. Period.

That is what is bothering me. No "Well, what we have tried for the last 3 years has not worked in the Red Zone so we are going to try something else." You can blame the Oline but we knew when we got them, they are not run blockers.

While this sucks, maybe it's an opportunity to shake things up on our O-line and make some changes to help the run game?

How about Caldwell at center, slide Meyers over to RG? We need SOMETHING to inspire this crappy running game of ours. I still believe in the ZBS, but our line and backs just haven't executed.

Exactly what he said in the presser yesterday too.

The way Kubes talked in the presser, Myers stays at Center, White and Caldwell to split time at RG. And Kubes doesn't want to move Studdard around says he is playing well.

As a student of football, though, I can tell you he's right. Arizona is a mediocre team because they can't run the ball. The Saints were mediocre until they started to be able to run the ball. The run-n-shoot Oilers could never win in the playoffs because they couldn't run the ball.

You guys also have to remember - this is coachspeak. Every coach in the NFL says the same crap when they lose. You can't call out individuals or your players and staff will not trust you. Nobody would be complaining about what he says if they were winning, even though it's exactly the same spiel. Fans are blasting Fisher in Tennessee and John Fox in Carolina - two of the best! - for saying the exact same things that Kubiak is saying. It's coachspeak. Quit complaining about it, because it will be the same stuff coming out of any coach's mouth after a loss.

Hope Caldwell steps up and takes the starting spot. We need his strength at the LOS.

Ideally, I would prefer that we shift Winston to RG and move Butler in at RT. But I dont think we've ever worked Winston as a guard, he has the body type for it though and then we could take away his biggest weakness which is pass blocking against speed rushers.

I hope Caldwell steps up, he's got a much higher ceiling than anyone else on the interior OL.

Thank you. :perfect10::goodpost:

That need's to be etched in bronze, and it should be required reading before anyone is even allowed to enter. I'd make it may signature if it wasn't so long, but well said. Kudos!

As a student of football, would you if you were coach recognize that A) your free agent selections of RBs are not working B) you can't buy a first down when the play is 3rd down and less than three needed C) your backs can't get the ball into the end zone D) your Olinemen are pass blockers not run blockers E) the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result.

Would you address this issue by 1) drafting in the third round a guard/center that can't beat out any #2 player until injuries decimate the guys ahead of him 2) draft tight ends in 4th & 5th because they were BPA although you have two starters ahead of them 3) use an undrafted free agent as your plan B in case another free agent power back does not work out?

While it is true a running game is needed, we ain't got one, can't get one and pretending we do is only detriminal to what is working for us. I realize eventually your QB will get hurt, but Schaub threw for 50 and did not get sacked. Ever think that if maybe Shanny had put up a few more passes in first half he may not have had to put up so many in the 2nd half?

If your read my post at #24 again, I said it is cool the Coach is not blaming his players publicly.

Wow! I agree. I have never thought about that but I am pretty stupid. I bet that if I TAKE IT ONE GAME AT A TIME, I could have the POTENTIAL to NOT LOOK PAST THIS SUNDAY and realize that on ANY GIVEN SUNDAY any team could beat you as THIS IS THE NFL! Now I understand what COACH SPEAK is. I am no longer worried about anything. Go Texans!

Even if our line regresses a little, its important for Caldwell to get snaps and get ready for next season. He needs to be a starter in this league by year 3 for sure, might as well get him ready now. I like Chris White playing every 3rd snap for Studdard like they did in ARI, gets the most out of Kasey while he's in there. I wonder if they'll consider the same thing for Caldwell now instead of Kasey.

Sorry if its already been posted just merge if so.

Last season, no Texans starting offensive lineman missed a play because of an injury. This season, the Texans now have lost two starting offensive linemen for the year.

Right guard Mike Brisiel suffered a season-ending foot injury during Sunday's 28-21 loss at Arizona. Brisiel, 26, will join left guard Chester Pitts on injured reserve. Pitts is recovering from major knee surgery.

Kasey Studdard replaced Pitts. Rookie Antoine Caldwell and veteran Chris White will compete to see who will start for Brisiel, who played every snap last season when the Texans averaged 115.4 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.

Caldwell (6-3, 305 pounds) is a third-round pick from Alabama who has played center and guard.

“He worked a bunch (at right guard),” coach Gary Kubiak said. “He worked at center in training camp so he could (learn to make) the calls. Since then, he's basically been working at guard.”

White (6-2, 290) is a five-year veteran.

Regardless of who has manned the line this year, the Texans continue to have problems running the ball. Steve Slaton, who rushed for 1,282 yards and averaged 4.8 per carry as a rookie, is averaging 46.2 yards per game and 3.2 per carry.

The running game was at its worst at Arizona, where the Texans accumulated only 45 yards on 21 carries. That's an average of 2.1

While Brisiel wasn't my favorite Guard, I think he had worked hard to earn his spot.

I'm not liking this news on bit.

Any combination of Myers, Studdard, White and Caldwell in the middle gives me the chill... Urrrrghh!
