49ers under fire for shocking training film

Wow. That's sounds like one crazy video. Guess Reynolds was trying to see how many groups he could offend in one video.

"The Chronicle said the video was shown to 49ers players last year at the team's training camp in Santa Clara after a diversity workshop, which Reynolds organized after an anti-homosexual comment by running back Garrison Hearst."
FWIW, I don't think there is an ethnic or racial group in our society that is more preoccupied with machisnmo than young AfroAmerican men involved in athletics. Considering that they now dominate the NFL, I think its so silly to
have this kind of PC training for these guys - there is absolutely no way a
guy who was known to be gay would be accepted let alone function as a contributing player to an NFL team. On the other hand, since young AfroAmerican men represent a group that has been(and continues to be) victims of racial discrimination, sensitivity training
to improve tolerance to other racial groups - Hispanics, Asians - that makes perfect sense.

Every time I think I've seen the stupidest decision made that I'm ever going to see, someone comes along and just blows it away.

If you go to www.sfGate.com, you can watch this travesty. I coudn't make it past the beginning of the 2nd segment. That Reynolds guy needs to find a completely new line of work.

I just watched the video....not very professional to say the least which is ironic because he talks in the video about bieng professional at all times and taking responsibility for your actions.

However, there's nothing in there that you cannot see on a regualr basis by just turning on your television. Nothing in it is "shocking". Offensive, I'm sure to some it is, but again I've seen worse on The Dave Chappelle Show, SNL, Mad TV, anything on HBO..... It's really pretty tame. The worst thing it does is make fun of how Asians talk....and I'm sure none of us have ever done that before....of coarse I doubt any of us have video taped us doing it for a professional football organization training video either.

Then again, would I be embarassed as a fan if this had been a Houston Texans video? Yes, I would.

Actually its not even that funny either. Maybe on an inside joke level, but its pretty lame.

yeah, the video itself is kinda' tame...but I'm a fan of South Park, so my level of "shock value" is raised pretty high. Being offended is a choice, IMO.

Interesting enough, the poll in the article reveals that those that are "shocked" are in a minority:

Does the 49ers' training film shock you? * 8282 responses

Would I be surprised if the Texans made this tape? yeah...but I still would not be "shocked". I would be surprised because the Texans are so careful about their marketing image.

Vulgarity has been raised to an artform in this culture, right or wrong, good or bad. This tape is just a by-product of our culture, for better or worse.

would someone be kind enough to some up what happened in that video because my computer isnt exactly the latest model to come off the assemlby line and to make thnigs worse, ive got dial-up...thanks

There really isn't anything to sum up that's not in the articles. Its pretty much full of sophmoric humor with really bad "acting" by the Reynolds guy. He reads his lines like he's making a video for his high school video tech class....except for the naked chicks and cussing. :)

Actually, take away all of the "fluff" and its kind of interesting to see a video about what they talk to rookies about. He tells them to not get into a "peeing" match with media and if they see anything in print or on televison about themselves that is untrue to let them know and they will take care of it.

He tells them not to be a Ryan Leaf in the locker room, to cover up when they get out of the shower because of the women in the locker room and to treat them with respect (of coarse, while saying this there is a naked girl in the shower behind him). Actually, I think that's what he was saying, I was trying to see through the blurred out video....as if it was a novelty to see a naked girl on the internet.

You haven't lived until you've watched South Park. :highfive:

“Ostensibly, the video was created to raise player awareness about how to deal with the media and to demonstrate by example how poor conduct can unintentionally make news,” the Yorks said. “Unfortunately, this video is an example in itself.”

Nothing is really shocking about the video...if the Texans would have done that, i wouldn't hate them because of it...it was a mistake and when I watched it, I wasn't offended.
