We need to go 3-3 next 6

I would give the left one of you if that happened.

(well, maybe not - but I'd be impressed)

We would have an outside chance of making playoffs if we finish house afire.
And we'll be 5-5. Not something that I'd be happy with.

We need to win the division. Gunning for the wild card isn't the way to do this. We're third in our division as of today. Jacksonville's got the tiebreaker and the Colts are perfect thus far and are not showing any signs of slowing down.

We need to go 6-0.

Most likely the wild cards are going to come out of the AFC North and the AFC East anyway.........sorry, but like Nitro said, the only way I see us making the playoffs is by flat out winning the division. A 11-5 team could be a wild card team this year.

3-3 over the next 6 isn't going to cut it.....that's just .500 ball, which is just more of the same.

People, people, people. Why do I have to pull this out earlier and earlier every year?!

"Well, I'll start off by saying this: do not blame that game on the defense, OK? I don't care who you play -- whether it's a high school team, a junior college team, a college team -- much less an NFL team. When you turn the ball over five times -- four interceptions, one for a touchdown, three others in field position to set up touchdowns -- you ain't going to beat anybody I just talked about. Anybody. All right? And that was a disgraceful performance in my opinion. We threw that game. We gave it away by doing that. We gave them the friggin' game. In my opinion, that sucked... What's that? Ah -- Playoffs? Don't talk about -- playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game! Another game."

why can't we just keep our expectations realistic? one week ago posters were ready to dismantle this team, and today you're wanting them to go 6-0 on the next 6? that's not fair or realistic, and only sets up a scenario for more bench/fire/demote threads.

:texflag:

Seriously. If you NEED to go to Indy and win, you might as well close up shop.

U saying we cant beat the Jets or Balty ??????? to take that wildcard spot ???

i think we can beat The cards on the road

and i deff think we can beat Cincy on the road

and i think we can handle San Fransico at "HOME"

thats 5-2 right there going into Buffalo and even if we lose in Buff thats still 5-3 going into the indy game ......

thats my way of thinking has of now

if indy is 8-0 at that point then that will just suck hopefull they will be 6-2

The Jets and Baltimore are better ball clubs right now until proven otherwise. They play great defense and can run the hell out of the ball......that's what you need to win consistently, especially on the road.

Seriously. If you NEED to go to Indy and win, you might as well close up shop.

Why.....we should've beat them last year.

It SHOULD be our goal to go 6-0 in the next 6 games, whether we do that or not doesn't really matter.....but that SHOULD be the goal. Set your goals high and you achieve more, I think that was "Second Honeymoon's" original point.....I seriously doubt he actually expects that to happen.

Im not as optimistic as you. I think we will be lucky if we win more than 6 games. But heres to hoping.

Shoulda woulda coulda. We should be 3-1.

Then don't say 'need'.

I do think we can beat Arizona, Cincy, and Buffalo. The Cards game will be the toughest of those 3 IMO, but I really don't think they are unbeatable. San Francisco could be really tough -- depending on how healthy Gore is he could dismantle us. It will be an interesting game no doubt.

Indy, well, I just hope we manage to run a winning record up over the 4 games before them. If the game is for the division lead or something I wouldn't count us out. But if we are puttering along like we were before half of this week (and like we have for the entire length of Kubiak's tenure) they will flay us. We need to establish some consistency and confidence before then to have a prayer. Tennessee showed promise -- we can overcome faulty mistakes to win on the road. It remains to be seen whether we can do that against a team that has won a game, or do it two weeks in a row.

For the first time in the history of this franchise, we could say this
team has the ABILITY to win against EVERY team on its schedule.
They had BETTER be aiming to win the division. The AFC South is
the toughest division in the AFC, and this team has to be BETTER THAN
GOOD to make the playoffs.

Every division winner in the history of the AFC South has won at least
11 games. Most of the time, 12 wins are required. The Texans have been
building themselves to compete with the Colts, and dammit with the
emergence of Cushing, Okoye, Jacoby Jones, we just might have enough
to beat them once or even twice.

I've been watching Demeco gush over his boy Cushing, GQ, and Pollard,
destroy receivers whether they catch the ball or not. Cushing clotheslined
Jamarcus Russell a split second after he got rid of the ball, and got away
with it.

Who'd have known that when Kubiak compared Kevin Walter to "Easy" Ed
Mccaffrey, he'd be right? Frank Bush was downright giddy when they
drafted Cushing. Comparisons of Bill Romanowski were thrown about.
In SEASON ONE, he's gotten Texans fans watching in AWE as he BLASTS
a tight end after the guy MISSES THE CATCH!

I remember in the past, the Texans would get to a ball carrier, and just
soft tackle. Cushing actually DESTROYS ballcarriers and receivers. Once
this defense plays AVERAGE FOOTBALL, this team will be good. However,
I think there's enough young talent on that side of the ball to build into
something MUCH better than average.

This team had BETTER be aiming for 6-0. Mediocrity is UNACCEPTABLE.

Shoulda woulda coulda.

And.......

I'm talking about how we have "competed" against the Colts in the past, so what's the point in having a "defeatist attitude" towards that game and already pulling a white flag out. What's your point?

Then don't say 'need'.

it would be tough to pull out but that should be our aim.

The point he was trying to get across was pretty obvious. This board doesn't need lawyers to proof read each post.

I think 3-3 over the hardest stretch of the season would be acceptable but hopfully the Texans can do better.

I think that we can beat any team on our schedule and have a very good chance of suprising everyone and winning @Arizona.
Remember, we are undefeated on the road ;)

I am hoping and thinking that we can/should go 4-2 and put us in a good position, but of couse predictions change from week to week.

Playing the Raiders every week would be a good start. Seriously Im not as upbeat about this team as some of you. We are still to inconsistant for me to think we can win more than 6 games this year. We have pretty tough schedule coming up and some of you are riding to high after beating the Raiders. Most have the Cinci, Buffalo and Arizona as games we should or could win. I think they are underestimating them and overestimating us. I hope Im wrong.

One game at a time folks, one game at a time.
Let's try to throttle Kurt Warner and his aerial show out in his own back yard. That should be the only thing on our minds at this point.

Looking a month and a half down the road is a bit much to bite off for me. We don't know who will be healthy on our team or theirs two weeks from now, let alone a month and a half in the future.

Let's do our damnest to win 'em as they come up on the schedule and the season takes care of itself.

...one game at a time.
:barman:

Really man 6 games? I will guarantee we win more than 6 games on our schedule...Those all are games we could win..Maybe ur underestimating us. I know this may sound dumb, but if you minus just 4 plays(big plays) from this season our D's ranking is considerably better. I think that's more of where are defense will be as the season goes on as we make adjustments and not give up those big rushing TDs...I believe our offense will do even better and maybe even surprise u... Cincy, Buffalo, and Arizona I think will all miss the postseason, I'd love for us to help them..

im hopeful we'll go 3-1 in the next four games which will be ok once we beat the bengals

I keep seeing this idea on this message board. Has anyone else watched them play? This isn't last years bungles. A victory over these guys is not a given. Is this positive thinking, ignorance, wishful thinking, or just day dreaming? I myself am not so sure. I hope you are all right, but these bengals have teeth.

Our defense, minus those 4 big "dumb ass decision-made" plays, has played
like a top 15 defense. Our offense is putting up more points than they ever
have, and our special teams has been kicking major ass.

I'd err on the side of our team being good enough to whip some Bengals.

my point was that we need to beat the bengals because they're a wildcard rival. a loss to an nfc team wouldnt hurt as much

Unfortunately I can’t bring myself to believe the Texans have truly turned the corner into a playoff team yet. I wish that weren’t the case. Right now I see 3-3 over the next six games as the best possible outcome for them, because I can also see them going 2-4 over that time. The Texans need to put it together for a whole season, not just a few games, to get some of us to truly believe they are a playoff team. Right now, they aren’t doing it.

Still love ‘em though, can’t help myself in that regard.

Just squint your eyes real hard. Their unis look kinda sorta like the Patriots or Giants when you do. Just be careful you don't confuse us for the Bills. No one's confusing them with a playoff squad either.

Seriously I agree with what you say here. We have yet to show any sort of consistency. I'm not throwing in the towel on the season, and there's been a few bright spots no doubt. But we have yet to turn the corner, unless we just turned four corners and are back to "Go."

I'm not saying they can't do it. I honestly think we have the talent to beat any team we play on paper. I'm saying I'll believe it when I see it.

I actually agree with you. We've not played at all like a playoff team.

Week 1
The only team we've played with a Defense(Jets) allowed us 7 points... errr wait.. that was an interception TD.. ZERO points.

Week 2
We get lucky and watch Collins fumble in a game that neither team could stop the other.

Week 3
We get un-lucky in another game that neither team could stop the other.

Week 4
It's the Raiders.

Thanks to a little luck and the Raiders, we are not 0-4.

Are we going to have the first pick in the draft next Spring? No... but, we're not even close to showing that we can win better than half our remaining games.

@ARI - another offensive shootout (coin toss)
@ CIN - another offensive shootout (coin toss)
SF - The second game of the season vs a defensive juggernaught (pray for 7 offensive points)
@ Buf - I pray they are as bad as the Raiders and glad it's October in Buffalo.
@ Ind - I don't count on it
BYE
Ten - (coin toss)
Ind - what I already said
JAC - (coin toss)
Sea - (I hope)
@Stl - (We better)
@Mia - I hope(do we own the Dolphins? :-)
NE - Umm.. I think I miss-spelled juggernaut earlier.

It's feasible to win half the games remaining.. but that won't put us in the playoffs. Even with rose colored glasses, I see at minimum 4 losses ahead of us on the season. If we go 3-3 in the next 6, then I see it at min 5 losses on the season, sprinkle in the coinflip losses...

I'm hopeful for a 10-6 season. But it ends there. Playoffs?

I'm with you on this. Having 1 good defensive showing in a row isn't enough to put me over the top. Let's shoot for 2 or 3 good showings in a row against quality teams.

This team can't afford to look ahead more then next week. Arizona is looming in the desert and I am getting sick at my stomach atm thinking of Fitz, Bolden and Breaston going against this secondary. I'm also expecting Dockett to give the interior of the OL big problems.

I can't get excited about this team and playoff opportunity. I don't think we have shot at winning the division with the way Indy is playing.

IMO that leaves our best shot at the playoffs at getting a wildcard. It's very possible at the moment that 3 teams may come out of the AFC North the way Pitt, Baltimore and Cinci are playing and are capable of playing. I think the other battle will be Jets and Pats. Not sure if we are better then those 5 teams at the moment.

Good news is we can make an impact on 3 of the teams. Bad news is again, not sure if we can.

And.......

I'm talking about how we have "competed" against the Colts in the past, so what's the point in having a "defeatist attitude" towards that game and already pulling a white flag out. What's your point?

We've been to Indy 7 times. In order:
20 point loss.
9 point loss.
35 point loss.
14 point loss.
19 point loss.
23 point loss.
6 point loss.

I don't play. I don't coach. I don't have any close personal friends that I have to pump up. The point is being a realist.

The point he was trying to get across was pretty obvious. This board doesn't need lawyers to proof read each post.

It wasn't just his. There was a lot of NEED to go 6-0 on the frist page. My main oppositition to it is I'll be content with 3-3 and would be quite happy with 4-2. I wouldn't be at all surprised to go 2-4, and that's only because I -think- we're a good home team, but after the Jaguar's performance, I'm somewhat skeptical about that. And I find it more realistic that we'd go 0-6 instead of 6-0.

Arizona - Win. We've got the horses for a shootout and if the D really wants to prove itself it's got a damn good set up for it.
Cincy- Win. I don't buy their hype. Not even for one second.
San Fran- Scary. That should be a great D battle. Maybe the O saves us then.
Buffaol- Win or you're all cut.
at Indy- I'm not saying we're gonna win there...but we did win in Tenatheeee.

I'd say 4-1 at best, and 6-3 at the bye. Good shape for a run or at least having meaningful December football in Houston.

Tenaatheeee- Win. Put it to 'em again.
Indy- I don't believe we can beat them twice in a year no matter how good we are. Peyton Manning bitches.
Jacksonville-Retribution and a win.
Seattle- break 'em in half
st. Louis- break 'em in....quarters...
Miami-break 'em in...some kind of fraction I can't even think of....
New England-win, they'll be resting and this game will get us into the playoffs.

Did I just line them up for 12 and 4? I'll be setting down this koolaid now...We're still in good shape but consistency is the name of the game. I wouldn't be surprised to see double digit wins.

Wow, we can only hope!
:marionaner:

Hopefully, the players and coaches are just taking it one day at a time. Internally, everyone must know that this team is capable of beating any team in the league...but can also easily lose winnable games as well. The players and coaches are working on winning them all and that better be the expectation.

As fans, we have the luxury of being realists. While I wouldn't be happy or even satisfied with being 5-5 after 10 games, but I would take it if I could and go into the final 6 games of the season witha realistic shot of getting the first winning record in franchise history. I would love to see us catch fire and go 5-1 or 4-2 over this stretch...but also realize that we could easily lose 4 or 5 games over this stretch.

This franchise can't afford to take a step back and based on what I have seen, I would take 3-3.

I agreed with your whole post except this line. 3-3 and 2-2 is still 8-8 and even if that isn't technically a step back it sure isn't a step forward. +.500 ball is the next step forward.

I hear you - What I was trying to say is if that we are at 5-5, we have a good shot of being a 9 win team with 6 games remaining. At 5-5, we just have to win 4 of 6 to end with the best record in franchise history.

I agree that 8-8 is not a step forward. I also think that Kubes will need 10 wins to keep his job.

Arizona- L great offenses, average/bad d
Cincy- W i think we are overall a better team than they are
San Fran- L defense is too much to handle, much less the offense...
Buffalo- W great team, but depends which texans shows up
Indy- W I think we'll get our revenge from last year here...
Tenn- W need i say anything?

Step right up and get your tasty, tasty koolaide right here! :rake:

The Jets and Baltimore are better ball clubs right now until proven otherwise. They play great defense and can run the hell out of the ball......that's what you need to win consistently, especially on the road.

yep. We are nowhere near the level of where the Jets and Ravens are playing right now. It is delusional for Texans fans to think that some kind of magic is going to morph our team into the caliber of these teams. Our secondary stinks and our entire D has 3 sacks in four games.

Obviously, things can change, but I do not see what others are seeing in our first four games to think that we are just around the corner of wildcard or division champ greatness.

We will be 1-4 over our next 5. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I hate to say it, but this is pretty much what I'm expecting, as well. I think we will be competitive and plays some close games against certain teams, but a road team we are not (6-18 the past three seasons).

Really man 6 games? I will guarantee we win more than 6 games on our schedule...Those all are games we could win..Maybe ur underestimating us. How do you minus big plays? I've checked the NFL.com site, and it doesn't mention anything on there about removing specific plays from previous games. The last I checked, those plays are indicative of our defense as a whole.

I think we have some great potential in certain players, but as an entire unit, they suck. Oakland changes nothing, simply because they suck, too.

Unfortunately I can’t bring myself to believe the Texans have truly turned the corner into a playoff team yet. I wish that weren’t the case. I feel the same way. I guess I gotta' disclaimer my Texans fandom by saying Texans fan for life here, but I don't wear blinders or drink koolaide. I somehow see the same games that everyone else sees, but I'm not getting all warm and fuzzy about our defense magically transforming into being good overnight. In the course of history, these things usually take some time to develop.

come on DB, take away the height and the Transco tower isn't any taller than your house.

Cincy- W i think we are overall a better team than they are

How so???

offenses are even, but they have a better RB

QBs are about a wash

and

They have a MUCH better defense. They're also 3-1 (only loss coming on a fluke play) with quality wins against the Steelers and Packers.....we're 2-2, with victories over a 0-4 Titans team and a 1-3 horrible Raiders team.

:goodpost: Agree! Like I said earlier, some are riding too high after a win against a really bad team. We havent shown anything that would make me think we have a legitamate shot at the playoffs. Untill we show we can consistantly play against good teams, im sticking to my prediction of 6 wins. 8 and 8 looks like the ceiling for this team to me.

If we do go 8 & 8 or worse I hope Fisher gets fired up in possum holler and we bring him home and while we at it hire Floyd Reese back as GM as well.

Let's all be real here the secondary is going to be taken to school against any team with any type of passing game whatsoever. The Raiders do not ever know what that means so right away we're all getting excited. 65 yards for Steve is not a big deal. Just wait untill he goes up against a run stuffing team he'll be lucky to run back to the LOS for no gain unless he turns things around in a hurry and gets back to running like he ran last season. His TD's on Sunday were great but don't get me wrong but they were in large part due to wonderful OL blocking that lead the way. Way to go Ryan Moats. I live by one game at a time and anything might happen on ANY GIVEN SUNDAY OUT THERE.

Gary, do not worry. If Slaton is slowed, we have a steady power back to give the ball to. His name is..uh, I guess we don't have one. But never mind, I am sure we can sign an undrafted free agent next year that will do just fine.:spin:
