Ex-Patriots Coaches Success This Year?

Which ex-coordinator from the Superbowl Champion New England Patriots will have the most success as a coach this year?

Your choices are:

Romeo Cremmel (ex-defensive coordinator, NE): Cleveland Browns

Charlie Weis (ex-offensive coordinator, NE): Notre Dame

This sort of depends on your definition of success. I think the changes Savage and Crennel have made thus far to the Browns is already a huge success. They got rid of alot of the failures of the past, and have brought in good young talent through the draft. Turning the Browns franchise around and getting it headed in the right direction is a monumental task, but I think Savage and Crennel are up to it. In purely W-L's I think Weiss and the Fightin Irish will have more W's than the Browns. Both have bright futures in front of them.

I think it will take a few years for Weis to get things going. He has to recruit his players, and get them believing in him. Im sure he has some good talent already, but more will come now that he is HC.

Both teams need to be rebuilt. This really is a tough question.

I think it'll take Crennel a good two to three years to build the Browns back up into a contender. Weis will probably have more immediate success, to some extent, with ND because of the school's prestige. It can't be that hard to recruit for the Fighting Irish!

I think Weis has the makings of a great coach. Look how fast he brought Tom Brady up to speed as a NFL QB. His offensive line was a mixture of late round picks & free agents. Until '04, Weis never had a top RB to work with. Weis can get more out of less as well as anyone.

The Irish have a tough schedule, but I still think they can get to a New Years Bowl. They have young talent at QB, RB, & WR and Weis brought in a top DC, Rick Minter. I think other teams will have to adjust to Weis' offense & that will give the Irish a big advantage. I see a 8-3 record & a bowl win for Notre Dame & Weis in '05.

The Winslow mishap was a big setback for Crennel's rebuilding plan. It will take time to get that offense in sync. Defensively, I don't think Crennel has the tools to work with. He needs a couple of more drafts. 2007 is the soonest I can see the Browns reaching respectibility.

i think it all comes down to the divisions of the teams that these two new coaches went to. Weis went to Notre Dame who plays in the IA Independents Conference which they share with Navy, Army, and Temple. not exactly the strongest conference in the game. then there's Crennel who went to the AFC North where he will have to face Cincinatti, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore. both of the teams are going to be lousy for a while but Notre Dame will have an easier time with their conference

I'm cheering for Romeo for sure. I think Weis got a bogus job and I have lost ALL respect for ND even though I like Weis my discontent for ND is even greater.

Dont know what you mean by an independent conference. They are independents.

It is gonna be tough. Irish fans are hoping for a little more consistency, and better execution. Also a few wins along the way would be nice.
Irish fans are real high on Charlie Weis, time will tell.

There doesn't seem to be much middle ground when it comes to the Irish. Kinda like the Cowboys, you love them or hate them for the most part.

I am not too sure what you mean by Weis getting a "bogus" job.

If you are referring to the dismissal of Willingham, you obviously didn't follow Irish football.

Actually I do follow Irish football and I have since i was little. Yes I am referring to the Willingham dismissal. If you can call that a justified firing when they'd NEVER fired a coach before his first contract is up then I just need to move back to the back of the bus.

I acutally had been a Irish fan since I was little but I'm not going to sit here and kid myself nor should you that they hold the prestige that they use to. The alumni and boosters dont want to accept the fact that just maaaaybe they aren't what they use to be.

The job is BOGUS and I have no respect for that program and wish they never win another game.

Weis go back to the patriots and wait for a REAL job. Especially when the PRESIDENT of the school says he's never been more ashamed.

Just goes to show who really controls college football. Corporate jerks who dont have a clue.

Are you aware that Willingham (or his agent) is the first coach in Irish history to insist on a third year review in his contract .
He was reviewed and found wanting. The Irish suffered more thirty point losses during his short tenure than with any other coach IN HISTORY. He was a poor recruiter and a poorer game day coach. The team was making absolutely no progress under his leadership. He still is a sub .500 coach. The first step in getting back to what they used to be was to remove Willingham before he did any more damage to the program.
The firing was verrrrry justified.... move back to the back of the bus ...whatever that means.

2-0 for Notre Dame both times knocking out ranked opponents Pittsburgh and at Michigan.

Crennel:
0-1 for the Browns after losing 27-13 at home against the Bengals. Next opponent: at Green Bay.

Still early. Lets see what it looks like in 2 months.
