The NEW AND IMPROVED DETRIOT LIONS!!!

Blake

MMQB
Although I like how they went into the draft, and got some great deals, I dont think it will be this year, or even next year, before they start gellin.

So dont think they are going to come out and start lighting people up this year.

The Lions have the weapons, but still don't have the line to give Joey the time to get them the ball. And the Defense is still questionable. But they should have a few big and exciting plays. :spot:

The Lions upgraded much this off-season...a whole lot but I too see them not doing much better. I'd give them 6-7 wins. I wouldn't be surprised if they got more though. That division won't let them slip into the playoffs just yet though. The bears will give them a hard time, Packers and Vikings go without saying...

detriot had in my opinion the second best draft this year next to arizona...i give arizona the edge on this one due to the fact they have had so many questionable drafts in the past and to see green walk in and change that imidiately is just good to see...but detriot got in my opinion the best back in this draft in kevin jones....don't worry about the fumbling...that can be fixed...roy and charlie will be the next holt and bruce for years to come...they helped their o-line in FA by getting woody who'll be good for them...and bryant was another solid pick up...all in all i'll give them a 7-9 record this year...and most importantly they will not be picking in the top 10 in next years draft

I thought the Lions had the best draft this year, and last year they had a very good draft as well. Add to that their FA acquistions, and I could see them competing for a division crown, although right now, I would say the Vikes are the favorite. I will give them an 8-8 record. Alot depends on Harrington. But, for the first time in like.....FOREVER.....the Lions are on the ascent, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see them in the playoffs by next year.

This may sound stupid, but I think Harrington has taken more hits then Carr, although Carr has more sacks taken. In the games I saw, Harrington would throw and duck.

Thats what Ducks do with the exception of Dan Fouts who stood in there and continually had his bell rung. Everybody thinks the Lions had a great draft but yet they passed on the player they should have taken Kellen Winslow, instead they traded him for a 2nd round pick & Roy Williams.

The only thing that makes some sense to me about why they did this was uncertainty with Rogers health. They just threw a whole lot of money at the WR position when what they needed was a blocking, intermediate playmaking target like Winslow, love him or hate him I guess it made too much sense for Detroit so they got cute.

IMO Harrington will always be a Duck, a sitting Duck as long as Detroit does not address basics like blocking, salary cap managemnet and players that complement one another. At least the Texans got their #1 & #2 players, that should improve the system, compliment one another and fit within the salary cap of one top 10 WR.

One more thing for the record New England had the best draft :hehe:

And that second round pick helped them get Kevin Jones. I totally disagree that they should have taken Winslow. If they werent offered the 2nd maybe then they should have taken him. But you get a 2nd round pick and Kevin Jones just to move down one spot for the best WR in the draft. (Every other team had Roy Williams rated ahead of Fitz, except the Cards)

Did all 32 teams give you a peek at their scorecards?

Didnt think so.

You could have said, they moved down one spot and got one of the top WR in this years draft.

I was basing that on the fact that I have read and heard (from people like John McClain) a lot (plus a bias feeling) that Roy Williams was higher the Fitz. But yeah I could have said "one of the top," but my feeling is that Roy Williams was better. Imagine Roy Williams have a decent QB last year?

I don’t see the Lions draft as appreciably better than the Texans’ was. Both teams picked up what should be 2 immediate starters and both teams went for good athletes who can provide depth. Is the Lion draft rated so high due to their selection of guys who touch the ball? Or is it because they took a local fan favorite? For this team, I know I’m much happier with the players the Texans took than if they had what the Lions hauled in. Offense is exciting, but it’s defense that wins championships. And you can quote me on that. ;)

I believe the Texans offense will be on a par with the Lions offense this year. If healthy, the defense will be head & shoulders above Detroit’s. I question the championship caliber of the FA’s the Lions have brought in to shore up the defense. I have no doubt that at the end of the season, the Texans will be a better football team than the Lions.

still just waiting with anticipation for the lions vs texans game...ever since the 2002 draft i think we've all been waiting to see who will win the first battle between harrington and carr

I may be a bit biased. But I think Carr was the better QB pick of 2002. I dont think Harrington has what it takes. I give this one to Carr and the Texans. I think they will be a more balanced team.

and since last year, I have been waiting for Carr and Johnson vs. Harrington and Rogers (it might turn into Harrington and Williams)

Great young talent on offense, and seasoned vets on D. When you think of it, it kinda sounds like us. If our picks and theirs live up to their potential, the Texans and Lions could be the teams to beat in a couple of years. :coolb:

Vince did very good to me. The only thing is that the offensive coordinator would wouldnt let him throw the ball. They made him run too much.

Young couldnt throw the ball last year, thats why against Texas Tech on the game winning drive Mock was in. Because he was the better thrower and wouldnt tuck it and run whenever he got the chance.

Same here, I cannot belive they didn't play last year. . . do they play this year? I hope so I haven't looked at the schedule yet I just know a few of them such as @ Kansas City or GreenBay on sunday night football. Well back to the point I would like to see Detriot vs. Houston now that both teams have some really potential

I can't wait for the lions/texans game. Dunta is gonna have to cover Roy, and Glenn is gonna have to cover Rogers....then the slot is gonna have to cover Tai Streets, whewwww. I think we'll win though cause I think we'll be having pressure on Harrington all day where he barely gets any balls out to Roy/Charles.

I think roy is better than rogers. I bet they put glenn on williams.

i dunno...cause that still leaves rogers...he's pretty good too...the one thing is we're gonna be a disadvantage that game...both of our starting corners will be below 6ft tall and both of their starting recievers will be above 6ft...we'll be counting on our safeties for help in this game and hopeing that the pass rush is there...because if our pass rush is good that game harrington will rush the pass like he does when there's no time to throw

All it takes is one or two good hits on them, from Coleman and Brown, to make them not want to catch the ball.

Lay the hat.

I think Carr was the better pick considering he had to start with 5 other rookies on offense and Harrington had alot more veterans with him, he also had a line that was together for a few years.

Basically Carr didn't have the luxuries Harrington had even if it wasn't that much more luxury.

I like David Carr. i just hope that Harrington can step it up and not become just another Ryan Leaf story.

All you have to be with Rogers is physical, and Robinson loves playing physical. Rogers has all the speed in the world, but doesnt have the upper body strength. (He broke his collarbone when Dre' Bly was playing bump and run coverage during practice with him.) I think I read that he only started doing upper body works in March due to his broken collarbone, dont quote me on that though.

Charles upper body will be much stronger this season, trust me. Rogers will school Robinson if they face eachother this year, don't mean to dawg our rookie, but he is a rookie corner. Rogers knows their playbook pretty well by now, and should be smarter/stronger this year. I think Robinson will go against Tai or Roy though..

The beauty is that Robinson will not have to match up one on one with either Roy or Charles, given the defensive scheme the Texans imploy. Robinson's speed will be tested for sure but I feel confident his statement will be made "don't come into Mr. Robinson's neighborhood, again".
Everyone aknowledges the Lions had their best draft in years, but how many Texan fans would trade Robinson & Babin for Williams & Jones?
Only the scoreboard will tell :twocents:

I think the Lions season depends greatly on Harrington. If he improves they will have a good offense. If they do not it will be a long year.

Good point. But this year you have to take into consideration, the change in the way DB's can play the bump. The are going to crack down on it this year. Making it alot easier for WR's, and alot harder for DB's.

I see Glenn on Rodgers; Coleman on Williams; and Robinson on Streets. Thats because we will be in the Nickel with C2 in effect. With McRee and the ex-QB at FS and Brown and Earl at SS I like our chances.
