Looks like the stay was brief...

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The Washington Redskins have placed guard Randy Thomas on injured reserve and signed running back Anthony Alridge from the Houston Texans' practice squad.
Alridge spent training camp with the Redskins, rushing 10 times for 46 yards in two preseason games. He was an undrafted free agent from the University of Houston who spent last season on the Broncos' injured reserve list with a foot injury.
Thomas tore his right triceps in Sunday's win over the St. Louis Rams. Tuesday's moves gives the Redskins five running backs on their 53-man roster.

Only reason they brought him in was to use him as the Chris Johnson clone on the scout team in preparation for the Titans game. Happens all the time in the NFL.

Did you stop for a moment to think those plays that we were burned by CJ were exactly the plays I said would best suit AA?

Why would a team like the Redskins put him on active roster?
So that they can scout us?

Why would I think about that, and why would the Redskins need Aldridge to scout us? Maybe I do not understand the context of your questions.

He showed that speed can burn. When you allow the smallest of an opening.
I watched them both in CUSA including Matt Forte, who is not a speed burner.
I know what they can do!

The Texans coaches and the players, after seeing that first hand, still cannot adapt, speak volume to the state of this team.

I know they try...

The CJ big plays were on all the defensive players not the coaches. When Frank Bush calls play "x" , is it completely ridiculous to ask that all personnel involved in play "x" be on the field and in the right place before the ball is even snapped? I think not. Bonehead mistakes from young guys is what it is.

There was no silver lining in a Richard Smith defense. Joey Harrington looked
like Peyton Manning out there. Smith's defense also allowed Mark Brunell
to break the NFL consecutive completion record.

Teams have not moved the ball much on 1st and 2nd downs on the Texans.
I expect the young guys to eventually CORRECT their coverage-blowing
ways. Bush's scheme actually fits the aggressive nature of the personnel.
I got tired of watching our D get carved up on 8 to 10 minute drives, with
no chance at creating a TURNOVER. The Texans have already caused
at least 1 turnover in each game.

Last year, they would go an entire MONTH without creating one. So no,
Richard Smith can coach linebackers in Carolina. I wish him well.

Trust me, when Frankie got the job, I put in a simple question, will we see the 46. He didn't answer it and I don't blame him.

I love Buddy Ryan when he was with the Oilers.
He is still my second favorite after Bum Phillips.

But we don't have enough personnel to run the darn thing.
Pressure is only as good as coverage and run support.

Wilson is decent, but he's not going to cut it in a super aggressive scheme.
After that, we have nothing!
You tell me who you can trust when we attack up front and they get past our line of attack?

So if the Texans scoure someone elses practice squad that player must go on the 53 man roster, which would probably bump someone else down on the practice squad or more likely a player moved to IR like Cody or Hill.

I've heard the Texans are interested in Colts DE Marcus Howard. They brought him in to workout yesterday & if they can come to an agreement the Texans just might add him to the roster? (in case anyone is interested kinda of a poor mans Dwight Freeney in stature, rookie out of Georgia)

just FYI Travis Johnson is declared out for week 3 with a groin issue. guess Texans will only wind up with a 6th in exchange for the former Texans #1 pick :foottap:

I kinda agree, Spec. I haven't seen Mays play much to really say I can totally agree. Personally, I'd rather grab a SS that has proven himself in the NFL already. Odds are you wouldn't have to pay a ridiculous amount of money compared to a 1st rounder. Plus you get a good SS that has already proven himself in the NFL, unlike an over paid rookie.

Unfortunately, DT might once again be the position we're looking for come April.

Keep in mind that if there's no new CBA in place by this off-season, every NFL team will have at least one (and I think it's two) transition tags added to the existing franchise/transition tag, and all players with less than 6 NFL seasons (DeMeco and O.D. for example) could be made RFA's. The same lack of agreement that would mean the Texans are at virtually no risk for losing any player that they truly want to keep means that the available FA market is likely going to be very thin, and what's there could be very expensive in terms of both dollars and draft picks.

I realize there's a chance this could never come to pass (new CBA agreed upon), but right now, the chances of it happening look all to high.

I have a classic stupid question. It would never happen I'm sure but say for instance you were on the New England Patriots practice squad and you thought "Both the starting running backs are kind of banged up and I think I might get on the 53 man roster if things go the way they appear to be going."

Then the Detroit Lions come along and want to sign you off of New England's practice squad. You can refuse right? You could just say "Thanks guys but.... I don't think so".

I know nobody would ever do that (well, if it was the Lions I don't know) but it isn't like picking someone's rights up on waivers is it? It's not automatic/mandatory?

I pretty certain that the player has some say in the matter. I think I read where some player did that or went to his current team told them blank team wanted to pick him up and either was signed to the 53 or had his practice squad salary increased.

It's not like he blindly goes for the big hit all the time
Normally, he goes for it when the situation warranted it.
On the sideline, for example, where he can use it as an extra defender.
When he has a clear shot at the receiver, and he knows that he has a better chance to knock the ball loose doing that.
When he has another defender ready to assist.
