Initial thoughts on Cushing

Love to hear the opinions on the board of him so far this year. My husband yelled at him a couple of times during the game and asked why he was even in the game. I think he is doing a great job. Just wondering what others think.

For his second game in the NFL I am impressed. I'm sure he is missing some stuff but he is intense and makes his fair share of plays. I see good things for him as he gets fully up to speed.

yup. Quick, aggressive...I seem him only getting better with 'Meco at his side. Props to Zac Diles too.

he looked great outside of the big running plays, but of course those weren't solely on him...everyone messed up. He looks like he is going to be great and a long time Texan.

He is playing lights out. He's a rookie in his second game and he's already one of the better LBs we've ever had.

Doesn't say much for the talent we've had.

For not playing in the preseason and this being his 2nd game, he is doing really well. I predict he will be another Demeco by the time the season ends.

He looked damn good to me..made sure tackles most of the times (except when Crumpler gave him the slip) & was mad as hell when he got there. There were some obvious things he needs to work on, but he's a rook & after getting a good look at him, i'm confident he'll get better with that.

On a side note, moving diles to the WLB is proving to be a good move, he's been an animal thus far.

The only thing negative I've ever said was that he needs time to learn to defend the pass since it's a whole lot more tricky in the pros than in college (and he was below average then).

He messed up on the one that gave the Tacks a first down late in the game that was crucial.

In the long run, he'll be fine!

The only thing I ever see him do wrong is over run a play. But I trade that for a non-stop type LB who covers plenty of the field and wraps up runners with a little boom behind it in his second pro game against a team with a dynamic run game. I think he is making a positive difference on the field and I'm totally looking forward to see him progress, I think he's got beast potential.

He made a couple of mistakes, especially in coverage, but I think he's showing a lot of promise. I'm feeling pretty good about our LBs right now.

The guy is intense, he gets fired up and he flies around the field. He seems to be in or around the play just about every time. The more I see of him, the more I am glad Houston drafted him. He's only going to get better, as well. Hope to see him in a Texans jersey for a long time.

He got fooled on a few runs, but 7 tackles and 3 assists speaks to his intensity.
Exactly. I thought Cushing was a little overrated coming into the draft (like most USC prospects). He plays bigger and faster than I thought he would. Cushing is getting by on talent, now. When/if he gets NFL coaching, he could become special. Brian Cushing brings it.

Not that I'm rooting against Clay Matthews, but he got 1 assist and no tackles today.

Totally agree with this, his speed sticks out big time when you watch him.

Last week they only had him in on 1st and 2nd down. Today they left him in, and I think it helped his game. I'm pleased with the way he's playing right now. IMO, he improved from the NY Jets game, so what more can you ask for. I'm happy with him.
