The Horns will be looking for retribution after losing a heartbreaker in Lubbock last year that cost them a shot at the National Championship.
I think that moving the game to week 3 really hurts Tech's offense since it is based on timing and rythym. Also, Tech will be giving QB Taylor Potts just his 3rd start in this game and hope that the rook can hold up to the pressure. Potts has all the physical tools, 6-5 218 with a rocket launcher of an arm, but showed poor decision making throwing 3 INT's in the opener against North Dakota. Potts followed his debut with a dominating 7 TD performance against Rice and did not turn the ball over once.
Tech has struggled running the ball early this season, running 33 times for just 92 yards. The inability to run the ball was most noticeable when Tech was stuffed on three consecutive runs inside the 1 yard line against North Dakota. Techs #1 back, Baron Batch, went down two weeks before the season started with a dislocated elbow but has played in both games. Look for the explosive true freshman Harrison Jeffers to share the load with Batch this weekend.
Tech lost several key components on the defensive side of the ball including second round pick Darcel McBath and Big 12 sack leader Brandon Williams. Tech does return some talent on D with guys like Jamar Wall who has started every game at CB since he was a true sophomore. The line is anchored by returning starters Rajon Henley and Colby Whitlock.
If it comes down to a FG, Tech is in trouble. The cinderella story that was Matt Williams last year has taken over all FG and XP duties thus far in the season.
I'm just hoping that Tech can stay competetive in this game and give themselves a chance to win the game late. Austin has not been kind to us the last couple of visits, and I don't believe Tech has won there since little Ricky Williams ran for 150? in '97 and lead Tech to victory.
