Start Em/Sit Em

Ryan

THIS YEAR
Use this thread to ask the great members of TexansTalk on advice forw ho to start and who to sit.

Me, for this week, should i start Eli Manning(vs WAS) or Chad Pennington(@ ATL). Eli has very little success against the Redskins so i'm kind of torn between the two.

Very difficult choice. I would probably lean towards Pennington.

Who would you start? Derrick Ward or Cedric Benson? Ward looks to run by committee and Benson, well, is Cedric Benson. Also, would you start Jay Cutler or Aaron Rodgers and the Chicago Defense or the Tampa Bay Defense? Thanks!

As for the QB situation, i'd definitely go with Rodgers. He threw for about 500yards and 4 tds in two games against the bears last year, and the bears secondary hasnt gotten any better. And i'd probably go with Benson just because he will get most of the load

Thanks man. That was exactly what I was thinking. And if Rodgers is going to torch the Bears secondary like we both think he will, then I should probably start Tampa Bay's defense. Rep your way.

I have Cutler and Rodgers also, without a doubt I'm going with Rodgers. I also drafted Ward but I'm really scared to play him week 1. I sure didn't expect to see a healthy Cadillac when I drafted him. Supposedly they are going to have a 3 headed monster with Graham stealing GL carries. I would start Benson against a weak Denver defense and wait and see on Ward.

Pennington.

Question: Flex Sproles @ Oakland, or Carnell Williams vs. Cowboys.

I'd play Sproles against Oakland. First, you know - the Raiders. Second, who knows who's going to emerge as the #1 in Tampa?

I've got one:

Felix Jones against Tampa, or Darren McFadden against San Diego.

Sproles

Diehard, I would go with McFadden. The guy was pretty decent when healthy and should be better this year. But its a tough decision. Felix Jones looked good last year too.

Wow, thats a good one. McFadden should be the #1, but Oakland isnt the best team offensively, and is going against a pretty dang good defense. San Diego was 11th last season against the run.

Felix is the #2 explosive change of pace back. Tampa was 19th against the run last season.

It really is a coin toss. As a change of pace back, what can you expect? 50-70 yards and a TD? I would expect at least 70 yards and a TD from McFadden.

I would go with the #1 RB even for a below average team, over a #2 RB for a above average team. Hope this helps. :headhurts:

DMac has been named the starter... but like you said - tough defense. That said, as HORRIBLY EMBARRASSING TO THE UNIVERSE as the Raiders are, they are actually a very good running team with a very good run-blocking offensive line.

I'm leaning toward DMac, but the Bucs are SO BAD, and I think the Cowboys are going to smarten up this year and become the running team they SHOULD have been all this time.

I dunno. I guess I still have a lot of time to wring my hands about it, LOL.

Thanks guys.

Sproles is gonna have to play like a man on a mission if he wants to beat out Carnell Williams 100 yards and a TD.

And good call on our call for DMac over Felix (20 yards 0 TD's). Im sure he will get more than that.

Pick three. DeAngelo Williams @ ATL. Ronnie Brown vs. IND. Carnell Williams and Derrick Ward @ BUF.

Darren Sproles vs BAL, LeSean McCoy vs NO, and Ricky Williams vs IND will be on the bench.

I have DeAngelo Williams, Ronnie Brown, and Cadillac Williams penciled in as the starters.

Question: Would you start Carnell Williams or Derrick Ward?

Carnell Williams. They say they want to limit him to 15 carries a game. I doubt Ward gets 15 carries, and Williams looked pretty good out there. Actually I would start both of them if I didnt have stacked RB's.

Sproles scored me 12 points. It was enought to get the win, but Cadillac scored 15.

DMac and Felix were both disapointing in week 1.

My other RB's are Thomas Jones, Steve Slaton, Knowshon Moreno & Lesean Mccoy. Jones had the most points, & Williams only had 1 more carry & point then Ward. Starting all three would be benching Slaton, who was my top pick in the draft. I'm not against doing that though.

I just put in a waiver to drop Crabtree for Brent Celek. What do yall think? I have a hard time thinking he is going to be a fantasy option for me or anyone this year. I am starting Moss and TO every week, and on their bye weeks I have Nate Washington of the Titans.

My TE is Winslow and thats it. I think Celek would be a great addition. Any thoughts?

Good choice, I think. Crabtree isn't going to be worth diddly this season anyway, so you grab a reliable TE who's going to get you some points. Can't complain about that.

My predicament is with my flex RB and WR. I moved Harvin up to WR3 against Detroit and currently have Moss against St Louis as my flex. Opinion?

My current WR's and their opponent:

WR Roddy White - Car
WR Santonio Holmes - Chi
WR Percy Harvin - Det

W/T Santana Moss - StL

Torry Holt - Ari
Miles Austin - NYG
Hakeem Nicks - Dal

My current RB's and their opponent:

RB Matt Forte - Pit
RB Thomas Jones - NE

W/R Reggie Bush

Shonn Green - NE
LeSean McCoy - NO

I like your moves. That is the best lineup you could set IMHO.

I have issues with McNabb down in my on league I have Gerrard as the backup but he wasn't too sharp. Every year though he rounds out and last year was a top 10 guy. I could pick up Campbell who isn't great but plays the Rams and Lions in consecutive weeks.

Also, my WRs...I have Fitz but then WR2 is a toss up between Royal, Hester and Ch Henry. @ had bad first weeks. The third plays Pitt this week. Though their secondary was softer without Palumalu. I may stick with Royal vs Cleveland.

Gerrard vs Campbell is a tough call, Frog. To me, that would be like a coin flip.

I'd probably take the safer route and stick with Royal too for this week, but I wouldn't count Henry out just yet. I might be off base, but I was expecting the Bengals offense to go off this season. I still think they might eventually and I think Henry will be right there reaping the benefits.

Yeah, it really is as far as backups go

Agree with you completely. I got Henry late and with his preseason and even his past years.....when not arrested his produced more than Ocho and TJ at times...I expected him to be a guy that was just busting out. Now their offense scares me because it seems Denver stymied them with a simple 2-Deep coverage. Can't the guy run underneath? So until I see it I might stick with Royal who should benefit with having Marshall with a game under his belt and Orton without a bum hand.

What 2 QB this week, Brees, Manning and Rodgers. Which two should I start?

Which Manning???

Brees and Rodgers would probably be my choice. If its Payton, he has a little trouble against the 3-4 defense Miami will bring, and lost his WR Gonzales. If its Eli, then definitly Brees and Rodgers.

Just traded Favre for Cotton Swabb. Who should I start, Schaub, or Hasselbeck? Seattle is at home.

Dammit man! How the heck did you luck out and get all 3 of them?

I don't think you can ever go wrong with Brees, but Rodgers at home against the Bungles is very appealing.

Hasselbeck, IMO. We don't really know much about Schaub vs the titans cuz the dude's been hurt dang near every time we've played them. Go with the safe choice.

I can start three of:

Matt Forte (vs. PIT), Darren McFadden (@KC), Larry Johnson (vs. OAK), Felix Jones (vs. NYG), and Fred Jackson (vs. TB).

Forte was my keeper and it seems stupid not to start him - but against Pittsburgh? I dunno.

I love Fred Jackson's matchup against TB so I'm thinking D-Mac, Forte, and Jackson. What do you guys think?

Forte is an every week start. Even against Pitt he should get rushing yards and receving yards. Dont forget how versatile he is. I like the sound of Larry Johnson vs OAK, but they played San Diego pretty well the other day. But its still Oakland. Fred Jackson looked pretty well against New England, Dmac didnt really impress... Personally I would start Matt Forte, Larry Johnson, and Fred Jackson.

I've got another one for you guys to kick around.

In one of my leagues, it's REALLY tough because we have a VERY small amount of bench roster spots. I need to cut someone because right now I don't have a kicker.

I drafted Ted Ginn Jr., and Donnie Avery. This week I picked up Patrick Crayton off the wire and tried to trade him to a few of the Cowboy-crazed people in this particular league - no takers.

My question to you is - with the Miami offense looking not-so-good, with Marc Bulger looking TERRIBLE, and with Crayton maybe being a one-week wonder - which of those three do you cut?

Yeah, it's stupid to not start your keepers/top picks every week... but man that Pittsburgh defense looked good, LOL. I've pretty much locked in Forte and Jackson... it's that third spot that I'm having trouble with. Thanks for the vote, SM.

I had Celek as a solid sleeper. I'm not so hot on him without McRibb in the lineup, but when he's back, I like him. I drafted him in the last round of a couple of my drafts.

Crayton. You have 2 #1 options in Avery and Ginn. Granted, Avery is injured. He is a lock to stay on your roster. Ginn when playing well is a 100 yard 1 TD receiver. Crayton will probably come back down to earth and play like he has been playing for years. 50 yards on 3 catches or something.

But of course this is just one mans opinion. :P

Yeah, that's the obvious answer... but I'm real concerned about STL's QB situation. That said - they're going to be playing from behind a lot and SOMEONE has to catch the ball, LOL.

I was really hoping I could capitalize on some of the Cowboys hysteria in my Cowboy fan-heavy league. I guess they're smarter than I give them credit for :D

LOL! It's not like that. I am in a salary cap league, where we choose different players each week. No, I did not draft all three! :laughjump:

Starters this week :

QB Trent Edwards
WR Andre Johnson
WR Percy Harvin (against the Lions)
RB DeAngelo Williams
RB Darren Sproles
RB Ronnie Brown

Bench :

Michael Bush RB
Braylon Edwards WR

Donovan McNabb and Pierre Thomas are hurt and most likely won't play.

Suggestions?

Sooo. Guess I gotta play Farve against Detroit over Schaub vs. the Titans. Correct?

Anyone think Walter does anything? Or go with Nate Washington or Louis Murphy?

The only question is how many touches will Harvin get? Got 5 last week. Tough call there.

Well it looks like I started the best lineup possible and won by 47 points. Heck I had it won even before Ronnie Brown played last night, and he had a big day.
