Any thoughts on the play of the Rookies today ?

OK I feel like crap myself after todays game, but no matter how disheartened and frustrated and puzzled I am by this disastor, I'm still curious about other fans thoughts about the game, especially the play of our 2009 Draft class ?
Cushing seemed to be active, and Barwin was hustling as usual and made a play or 2. I know the rookie corners McCain & Quin had a tough game, but just about every Texans DB did today.

Cushing had flashes but may not be an every down linebacker. Sanchez sure looked good. So did the Rookie we passed for Ok0ye.

Our rookies sucked. Our veterans sucked. Our coaches sucked. Everyone associated with the Texans organization sucked.

I don't know what to say about Cush. He had that tenacity to keep plugging and moving forward when others gave up. Like on that play where he stopped Jones on the 1 yard line, he was in there wrapping up TJ while the rest of the team was watching.

And yeah, Revis looked great.

McCain had his moments, but Quin looks overmatched every time I see him. The NFL game is just too fast for this guy.

Cushing looked faster than I thought he would. I saw him make a few nice plays, they didn't mean much in the grand scheme but I thought he had a good game.

For missing all preseason Cushing seemed to be active and around the ball. I think he'll get better as the season rolls on.

Didn't see much of Barwin but, then again our pass rush was non existent for the most part. Not going to say the pick was wasted by any means yet, but we could've used the guy I was hoping to draft in the second Max Ugner in the trenches or William Moore in the secondary.

Didn't see Quinn much either. McCain blew coverage big time on the first touchdown. He made a nice play on preventing a touchdown in the third quarter.

Caldwell played better than Myers today.

Is Busing a rookie? I guess he's a rookie for us - I need something positive so I'll count him that way, even if he's not actually a rookie. His interception (and fortunate fumble to Barber...) was about the only real spark for our team today.

Did we ever get official word on who blew that assignment? I know we're all speculating that it was on him, but I'd like to hear it from him or a coach.

Haven't heard but it looked like it was all him on the touchdown. Looks like he thought someone else was picking him up or was going to pass him off to someone.

Someone on the staff or team should've told him they were blitzing and he was supposed to have 1-1 coverage.

Barwin didn't generate much of a pass rush in 3rd down situations imo. Looks like his preseason success was the same as Atwaan Peeks "I go 100% in preseason while the other team is going 75%"

Woody ate Barwin for lunch everytime he came into the game. Every third
down, I was watching for Barwin, and Woody maintained perfect technique
to negate Connor's spin moves. Good tackles, knowing that Barwin can't
bullrush, will negate Barwin.

You don't need to hear it from a coach. The team sent an ALL OUT BLITZ,
which meant the corners were to play man-to-man. Mccain, #41, stops
in the middle of the route as if he were playing zone, and the Jets' receiver
blows by him. COMPLETE mental mistake on that one. We really need
Reeves back.

Cushing tied Demeco for a team leading 8 tackles in limited snaps. I think he'll see more PT the further he gets away from his injury. He's gonna be a good one as long as he can stay on the field. He provides a physical presence that is much needed.

McCain obviously made a huge error, but if his head can catch up to the game he looks like he has the physical ability to help us.

Barwin continues to show great effort and athleticism, but I still think he's at least a year away from being the impact pass rusher we need him to be.

truth.. even with caldwell inactive.. well at least caldwell was on the field Myers was MIA (guess that could stand for missing interior assignments)

I thought Cushing looked alright, I expect he's a little behind the game right now but he still provided what was advertised. A big, fast, strong guy. Imagine, if he's only 90% right now he could be even faster as the season goes. I think we made a good choice with him.

Barwin seemed pretty well contained. I like that he effectively gives us a 3-4 blitz scheme look but the Jets Oline outmatched our Dline all day. I think getting on him for providing no pass rush is wrong because save a few good individual efforts here and there nobody did.

Didn't see Caldwell, noticed but didn't key on Quin, didn't see Mr.-I-was-drafted-to-block-the-3/4-scheme-LBs-so-they-don't-blow-up-the-run-all-day-and-forget-about-even-getting-into-the-red-zone-where-I'll-also-eventually-be-a-help, saw James Casey being relegated to special teams duty. I guess being a big, fast guy with soft hands isn't good enough for the offensive genius playcaller. McCain was 50/50 I guess stopping one is as good as giving one up. I guess.

You've never heard of a zone blitz?

You've never heard of a zone blitz?

Zone blitzes work by dropping the LINEMEN into coverage, and sending the
Linebackers into the lanes created by the linemen vacating the area.

They were in a Cover ZERO (no linebackers over the middle,) and
that coverage is ALWAYS man-to-man on the corners.

I hope you leave this thread more enlightened.

Cushing- looked a little tentative on that knee. there was a blitz where he came in and had a free shot on Sanchez. instead of full speed ahead, he hesitated & that gave sanchez just enough time to move & get the ball off. He was also reaching alot on plays instead of moving to the spot..(watch the long TD run by jones). For his 1st action of the season however, he looked decent.

Barwin- love his motor, but he's a liability in coverage & he's not polished enough of a pass rusher to make an impact right now.

Quinn - cut him now.

McCain- looks like he might be an asset as a nickle/dime guy. he was beat on that TD, the WR just didn't catch the ball b/c McCain sure as hell didn't touch it.

Caldwell - honestly, he couldn't do any worse than meyers. get him in there and see what he can do.

Considering I've personally seen this team send 8 and drop 3 into zone coverage multiple times in the past, I'm going to go ahead and wait until I hear from people who know, as opposed to you.

Thanks anyways.

That was one of the worst "performance" by a professional team that I've witnessed in my lifetime. It's a stretch to use the word performance because it implies that the team actually performed some act adequately. The players were booed off the field at the half, and deservedly so. I was sitting near the Texans tunnel and I noticed a few players looking to the stands as they were being booed. I hoped it would sink in and that the players would come out at the half ready to play or at least to show a freaking pulse. They did neither. I'm disappointed more with this team now than I ever have been before. Some may say that this loss will serve as a wake-up call for this team. I just don't see it. If getting booed off your home field at halftime of the first game of the regular season doesn't inspire this team then I don't anything will.
