Clemson @ Georgia Tech

Starting in the next 5 minutes. Should be interesting to see what new defensive coordinator for Clemson Kevin Steele does against this option attack of Georgia Tech.

Watch Clemson RB Spiller, GA Tech RB Dwyer, GA Tech SS Burnett, and GA Tech DE Morgan.

Wow! What a fantastic fake field goal TD pass. Paul Johnson is completely outclassing Dabo Sweeney.

Two sacks and 3 TFL (stuffed Spiller on 4th down) for Derrick Morgan already in the 1st quarter.

Clemson has started to come back. Its 24-21, Clemson has the ball. Nevermind GA Tech keeps ball after a hold on the punt return.

I'm watching Steelers/Tacks

How is Burnett looking?

Made a nice play on the ball early for a breakup, but defense was offsides so it doesn't count. Tackling well except one time where he had to try and jump over one of his own players on a deep pass over the middle right after the receiver made the catch. He missed the tackle and the reciever ran in for the score.

Overall, Burnett is having a decent game so far, he has been in on a ton of tackles.

Derrick Morgan has 3 sacks and 4 TFL by my count.

I saw Morgan Burnett in the 1st quarter and he was impressive, but then we changed the channel to watch the Steelers and Titans. Anyone know what kind of stats Burnett finished the game with?

Did you guys notice that Ga tech was running the triple option?
That first TD run by Allen is an example.

In this offense, one FB or RB (in this case Dwyer) lined up directly behind the QB, about 5yd off the LOS .
They have two wing backs (Allen #18 and Jones #20) on either side.
Each lined up just outside the OT, about a yd or two behind.
The QB faked to Dwyer who went up the middle.

Jones (behind the RT) went up to block the DB #38
Allen (behind the LT) came around behind the LOS and took the pitch from the QB and ran along the right side line all the way for the 76yd TD.

(The OLB #33 had to stay with the QB.)

The WR took on the safety.

Paul Johnson brought it from Navy a year ago. This is their second year running the triple-option.

So I heard in the off-season!

I didn't really pay attention to it while scouting on MJ.
I did notice Dwyer (and mentioned him), but I figure I have time for him this year.

Another guy I read about is #22 Taylor who has 4.2 speed (his coach said).
I haven't seen him appear on the radar yet in the game. I saw him but he hasn't done anything spectacular yet.
He's only a soph.
Oops he just made the INT off a deflection by the receiver!

...

Oops now he got beat by Jacoby Ford on a wheel route for a long TD.
(This guy is also plenty fast).
Taylor overran the drop back too far toward the sideline and couldn't turn back quickly enough!
He just doesn't have the feel of the dimension of the football field, and that's a no no.

Another few guys to watch for Georgia Tech during next week's Thursday night game against Miami.

Obviously you have:
S Morgan Burnett
DE Derrick Morgan, who I thought was a lot heavier than he is; he's only 270lbs. I thought he was at least 15lbs heavier, but he's real squatty.
RB Jonathan Dwyer

But, here are a few others that should be serious draft prospects in their own right:
CB Jerrad Tarrant - 6' 202lbs - Tech's top CB who also returns kicks; an amazing athlete. He is a RS Sophmore so he will probably declare for the 2011 draft.
WR Demaryius Thomas - 6'3" 229lbs - Huge frame, athletic, considered a top 5 receiver by all accounts for the upcoming 2010 draft. Not a lot of tape on him given the offense he plays in, but he is has the body scouts look for.
MLB Sedric Griffin - 5'10" 225lbs - His size will probably hurt his draft prospects but he is extremely active and seemingly in on every play. I haven't read any scouting profiles on him, but I could see him being a late round draft pick
