He feels People are already down on the team. What are your thoughts?

Gary,
How was the movie premiere? Hope all is well. What do you think of the team? Can't believe people are fown on us in the preseason! I have high hopes for this year. Look fwd to seeing you at the games!

Eric Winston

I can't say that I'm one that's "fown" on the team. I think they'll win 12 games.

But, really? Winston can't understand how people might be down on the Texans? The team has never had a winning season and has played like crap this preseason. Is there really no way to see how people might be a bit wary of this team?

That just means there's expectations from the fan base . When your wanting to win but haven't you have tendency for the dreaded ... here we go again attitude .

The O should be good this season like it was last season I hope they score more TD's once they are inside the redzone. On D, I am just fown on the secondary and the DT's.

Tell him there are plenty of fans out there who are hopeful and excited. It is just the debbie downers who make all the comments and get all the attention. The vocal minority.

Yep ... but in the salary cap era , all teams have weaknesses . The object is to overcome them by hook or crook . If your secondary is bad you better have a pass rush . Of course if the get 4.5 yards a pop on the ground and have third and one ... that's a problem .

Chris Brown should help in the redzone along with the OL having another year together . I think having Casey as do anything type player may help also .

You tell Eric not to worry about us fans. Just win 'em all and he'll be fine. It's great that he emailed you personally. You're a lucky man, gary.

Agree, I'd just like to know where he is reading or hearing this.

It just goes to show you what type of person he is and that some players do care.

Tell him the smart fans know what's up. I don't think we're too high or too low right now. The thing that people tend to forget, is that the haters always scream louder than the non-haters... so it's not that there's more of them, there's just more of them that bother to post and call radio shows.

Kind of like when you read reviews online of certain things. People are more compelled to post their grievances than their praises.

I think the Texans just need to go out and play like they can and that will solve everything . I got into a discussion the other day with a guy saying the Texans don't have offense and need a QB . He said that drafting Mario was a reach and blah , blah , blah , ... I'll stop for a second and say talking about your team is like talking about your job or wife , I can do it but don't you dare ... anyways I started rattling off numbers and said maybe he should keep up he wants to be in the conversation :scarygirl: . They need to quiet those folks up ... stay healthy Matt ... please . :aggressive:

The O only has control over how they preform on the football field. As far as the D goes they have to play well also. Every one go out and do their job and the fans should shutup.

Tell him I'm high on the team, but he needs to shape up! :tease:

Tell him he needs to eat more chicken wings so his arms can grow longer to keep them guys off the edge! :chili:

I don't think that people are down on the team, I think that this is a year that fans are expecting a corner to be turned. So many players are in their prime football years, and nobody wants to wait until next year for the team to take the next step. People want to see the improvement this year, and so far the only thing that we have had a chance to see is pre-season games. Whether it is fair or not, as fans we only get to make judgments on what we have seen so far; let's hope that the regular season will show some wrinkles that were not unveiled in preseason.

Personally, I am excited about the possibilities for this year, but would like to see improvement in key areas, like run defense, that were exposed during the preseason. I fully expect a 10-6 season, which means that in at least 6 games the weaknesses on the team will be exploited. It is not being down on the team, it is just pointing out where the areas for improvement are.

I find it strange that he can't understand.

We all know our season will go as Matt Schaub goes, and he's in a freak'n boot, and may miss the opener.

Our run game is based on Steve Slaton beating the sophomore slump. So far in the pre-season, we haven't seen our O-Line making big gapping holes that no one can see. They just aren't there. New Orleans ran "our system" better than we did. Minnesota created gapping holes in our defense... every yard we picked up was because Steve Slaton is above average. Chris Brown hasn't shown anything, Moats hasn't shown anything, Foster hasn't shown anything. Our run game is Steve Slaton... that's it.

Defensively, I think our DL looks better, and capable. But LBs & DBs look to be a joke at best.

The only thing we've got going for us, is that our schedule looks to be in our favor, based on last years data.

NYJ: 9-7 with their "back-up" QB. They've got a solid running game & their passing game looks much improved with their rookie QB.

Ten: 13-3 if they've taken a step back, it's hard to see why. But we beat these jokers, holding them to 100 yards rushing, 37 yds below their average.... but we can't seem to play that well against anyone else.

Jacksonville: 5-11, looks better on offense. they averaged 110 rypg last year. We allowed 126 rypg in our victory over them in December. That's in the second half of the year, when we played "sooooooo" much better.

Oakland: 5-11, we know what they did to us when our team was playing "sooooo" well. We allowed 139 yards, when they average 124.

Arizona: 9-7, these guys played in the Super Bowl 7 months ago.

Cincinnati: 4-11, Pro Bowl QB, OchoCinco, Coles, Henry... & the guys who'll be starting at CB by week 6 may not even be on our roster right now.

SanFran: 7-9, it's just pre-season, I get that. But they look much better than 7-9, and they look ready to play.

Buffalo: 7-9, really haven't seen much from them. but if we've got one "should win" game this year, this may be it.

Indy: 12-4, and they were having an "off" year.

Ten, Indy, Jack: This is our season. If we can't play well and survive this stretch, it's over. Luckily, we're coming out of our bye & 2 of 3 are at home. Where we usually win. & it's Jax on the road, where we usually win.

Seattle: 4-12, They've been running the ZBS as long as we have. I think they're better at it than we are. JJ is perfect for that system, then they've got Edgerrin James for short yardage.

StLouis: 2-14, this is another team I haven't heard/seen much of.

Miami: 11-5, this is one team that I don't think is as good as their record showed last year. We've beat them what, 3 years running?

NewEng: 11-5, If we beat Miami in week 18, hopefully NE would have "sealed" their play-off spot, and have no reason to play hard...... how pathetic is that?

8 games against teams below .500 in 2008. 8 games we should "dominate", but I don't see that happening.

8 games against teams over .500.... Luckily it won't be till week 7 that we have to play a proven, good/great offensive team.

I'm not one to be pessimistic, but our schedules is really the only thing we've got going for us so far.... and it's not really as "leaning" to us as last years standings indicate.

What worries me, more than anything, is that I'm not seeing EITHER line (Off or Def) blowing people off the ball or "dominating" them for even a single series. This is something I AM seeing the teams we keep going against doing and it appears as if we're trying too hard to FINESSE things.

The LoS is one area where I want to see improvement on BOTH sides of the ball and I just hope it's really just being covered up by 'playing vanilla' in the pre-season. If that isn't the case, we could be staring at another lackluster year AGAIN.

Well, I'm glad he noticed! Most of our team, I'm not saying Eric Winston, is not very fan friendly anyway. So it's a plus that he even cares what the fans think. I do agree with him though, it was only preseason. Come back after the Jets, Meatball , and Kittycat games, and ask the same question.
