When Jared Allen pushed Owen Daniels out of bounds, and Owen tumbled a little bit and Jared was walking away, I wished Owen Daniels had got down on all fours to dive at Jared Allen's legs in a non-contact way....just to poke fun at him.
That would have drawn HUGE applause and cheering from the crowd.

Duane Brown might be that guy. He took a huge shot at Jared Allen on that play where one of the Vikings kicked Chester Pitts while he was down. It wasn't even Allen who did it, but Brown went after him anyway. Gotta love that.

To be fair, we did take out Allen's shoulder later in the game last year. Allen whined about that in his pseudo-apology to Schaub.
As for the other post about TJ's supposedly-undetected sports hernia injury--did I miss something? Johnson had a groin issue last offseason that roughly coincided with his honeymoon. It limited him in the 2008 OTA's/camp but was (because of the timing) the subject of much humor around the net.
As for the thread topic, I'd love to have a monster hitter at safety that strikes fear into the hearts of opposing receivers. Barber seems to have the ability to be that guy, but I think he needs to shore up other parts of his game to be that player. That said, Ryans and McCain laid some nice licks out there yesterday.

I think you're onto something.
The NFL isn't like the NHL used to be when every team had a Bob Probert or Marty McSorley.
The real enforcers are the coaches. When you see a guy take a shot at another guy's knees, chances are that a coach instructed him to do it.
By the same token, when you see guys not retaliate, then that's coached as well.
Kubiak's Kids play nice football. Enforcers are for mean teams.

The defense definitely seemed to ratchet up the intensity a bit after the illegal block on Wilson. That made me happy. And as for enforcer status, Duane Brown just jumped up my list of favorite Texans for his retaliation against Ray Edwards. That was a bush league move by Edwards and ought to be fined by the league, and Brown jumped right in there to stick up for Chester. That penalty was 100% worth it.

The block is being highlighted on Yahoo this morning. They've got video and calling it 'uncool' I want a little 'umph' in our play as well, not dirty, but 'you don't come in our house with that sh!t' attitude!

If you didn't see it for yourself on ESPN, take a look at this filthy little crackback block that Brett Favre(notes) threw at the knees of Texans safety Eugene Wilson(notes) in the third quarter of the Monday Night preseason game.
Yeah, he's like a little kid out there. Specifically, that little girl Esther in "Orphan."
Mike Tirico's right, that wasn't cool. It was dirty, is what it was, not to mention illegal. My kudos and thanks go to Tirico and Ron Jaworski for pointing it out and not using the kid gloves on the usually sacred Favre.
It's not the worst thing any of us have ever seen, but I cringe any time I see an NFL player do something that is both unnecessary and puts someone else in such danger. I know that it's a dangerous game, and physical plays have to be made, but this, in my view, doesn't fall into that category.
Favre didn't have to go that low. Favre didn't have to put Eugene Wilson's knees in jeopardy. Like Jaws said, that's a potential career-ender.
That said, though, even though I've made no secret of my disapproval of Favre's nonsense over the past couple of years, if this were someone else, I'd probably be way more upset about it. I'm not saying that it's okay, of course, but Favre's been a quarterback in the NFL for 83 years and I can't recall a single other incident of dirty play.
So I won't label him a dirty player. The man's history earns him the benefit of the doubt. Make no mistake, though, the play itself was dirty. Here's what the NFL rulebook says about the crackback block:
An offensive player who lines up more than two yards outside his own tackle or a player who, at the snap, is in a backfield position and subsequently takes a position more than two yards outside a tackle may not clip an opponent anywhere nor may he contact an opponent below the waist if the blocker is moving toward the ball and if contact is made within an area five yards on either side of the line. (crackback)
It was correctly called by the officials and resulted in a 15-yard penalty. Wilson limped off with a knee injury, the severity of which is unknown.

Where is all this "Travis Johnson is a enforcer" or has a "mean streak" stuff coming from? I heard this stuff in the trade thread.
When has Travis Johnson ever enforced ANYTHING on the field? The only time he's done anything remotely close to "enforcing" is when somebody put a hit ON HIM and he didn't do anything until he got into the locker room
Travis Johnson is not a enforcer and never has been.....stupid play does not equal "tough" play. Just, because Travis Johnson's fat ass comes running in well after the play is over and falls on somebody who's already down, that doesn't make him a "tough player", it makes him a dumbass who just cost his team a penalty.

If I remember right, he hurt someone and then taunted him when he was down. I don't think he intended to hurt him, and I don't think he knew the guy was hurt that bad when he was taunting. My memory is fuzzy so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what is passing as "enforcer".$

Favre might have enforced himself. Just because he didn't obviously brain himself on that play and get carted off doesn't mean that the hit didn't effect him any.
I mean, dude has all sorts of stuff wrong on him--cracked rib, whatever in his throwing arm--who knows what that hit did to him in his cumulative list of injuries/excuses? Hip replacement? Loose dentures? More brain damages that causes the inability to make up his own damn mind and kicks a fanbase to the curb?

I agree, not the smartest move in the book. I must admit that I laughed my BEEP off when Green knocked himself out after trying to waste TJ's knee, and if Favre had knocked himself out on Wilson I would have reacted in the exact same manner. Call it poetic justice, I'm a sucker for that stuff

What a coward. Wilson wasn't even looking, a 12 year old could've blown him up at that point. Going fetal at his knees while he wasn't looking. My lasting impression of Favre the Great.

Believe me, I wanted someone to retaliate after that play. However, I doubt many of the players knew precisely what happened on the play. And, for good or bad, this organization's value system doesn't encourage that kind of attitude or behavior.... I'm sure everyone did appreciate how Demeco handled it though- planting the RB on his back the very next play.

I agree but Favre will gladly let his RB take the repercussions of his stupid behavior. I am pretty radical about this. Unless a penalty will cost the game, some body better go after Favre. You back up your buddies, esta todo! Ask Nolan Ryan who was known to hit a batter or two. Most players did not know about the hit, but a thinggy called a huddle gets the word passed pretty damn quick. Brett should have been spinning like a top looking for who was going to lay his butt out.
Now, I done got angry all over again!

At the game, Barrett was making fun of me because I was yelling vigorously for someone to hit him hard and late but I was using expletives like "darn" and "gosh" because we had some kids in our section. I suppose the joke is that I'm teaching kids revenge but I don't want them to say the wrong word. The reality is that I wanted revenge on that SOB but I didn't want to get thrown out of the stadium or have to deal with an irrate parent.
