Bull Pen Pep Band not allowed on field

What rule??

Man, they really are trying to turn this into the no fun league aren't they?

Im sorry, but the bullpen band allways annoys me!
I love them and think this is a put down if you ask me. They are there to do a job and make it fun and more interesting for the fans. The Bull Pen Pep Band is the best in the NFL and as Texans fans we are lucky to have such a great group preform for us at every home game. If you don't like the Pep Band then you should consider just watching the game at home or just ignore them and go on your marry way because they are not going to stop playing just for you. GO TEXANS

Gary, take it easy buddy.... he was just making a personal statement, it's all good.

They used to camp out in the concourse behind in the upper decks and play several tunes while the game was being played.

It was very distracting. Thankfully, that all ended last year.

Not liking the fact that they play during the game is one thing. They practie to be as good as they are not to be annoying most of the love it. They don't just show up at the games to play they put work into it and were created by the Texans so tell them but we should not call out the band it's a let down IMO.

I once jammed to Mustang Sally in Bb with that band!( Thanks bass player)
I think they need their own section so they can keep the excitment going.
So now what happens to them?

Hopefully SOMETHING. Now I believe they are forced to roam the stadium during the game.

I HOPE SOME HOW they can be put back into the back rows of the Bullpen!!

I for one am going to send an e-mail to

fanfeedback@houstontexans.com

to express my hoping that the Band will be given a home. After all, they work very hard and I believe do it for free.

The could always set up small metal bleachers just behind the Bull Pen. The only thing that would have to be moved would be a couple of mobile beer stands.

Okay, so, take this with a grain of salt because I'm a sound engineer so I'm sensitive to this stuff but the acoustics in Reliant are TERRIBLE. If you sit in the uppers the pep band sounds like four guys playing toy trumpets. That's right, the entire band sounds like trumpets.

If they set the band up in that walkway behind the bullpen it would be deafening to the fans at the back of that section. Those concrete chambers are extremely loud. You would have to put the band at field level in the first few rows of a section to keep from blasting the people sitting in front of them.

The bell of a trumpet can produce sounds exceeding 140 decibels. (Thats nearing the sound of a jet engine from a few feet away.) It doesn't feel as loud because it's frequency range is much smaller than a Jet Engine. So it's perceived as quieter but the discomfort level still exists.

If the band was in front of the fans (as they are on the field) the acoustic volume (direct sound) would be reduced dramatically.

Secondly the band is not recorded clearly because they use a few microphones that pick up a general area instead of recording each instrument and mixing it together via a sound board (which they have). In a loud stadium capturing sound in proximity to the source is critical.

Thirdly, they are battling the PA system and it's a loosign battle. You can't even understand speech up there in the 600's. (and our ears are naturally tuned to hear speech!)

There are several factors that need to be addressed with the Pep Band.

Having said that, Not having them would be a loss of our unique game experience. I just think it should be improved upon considerably.

Either for free or very little.

A lot of the Band were sitting up in Section 638 with us last weekend...I asked them next time to bring their instruments and play up there...they can play all game long if they want, it's totally fine with me. Football needs a band!
I think it would be great!
Go BAND!!!

We welcome ALL OF YOU up to our section, we want it to be loud and proud!

honestly, they shouldn't be behind anyone. they should be given a section though.

Thanks Wig, good observation.

how about setting up a tv out in Budweiser plaza...they could watch the game from out there, and when they play it could be streamed onto the big screens?

I love the band, and appreciate what they do to make our game day experience more exciting!! I'll be sending e-mails to the powers that be to help find them a roosting place for the games. PREFERABLY the Bullpen!!

Don't get me wrong here. I'm a Pep Band fan! Love it at the tailgates when they come through the lots and play and get everyone fired up.

But inside the stadium, it's a non-issue to me. I couldn't care less if you had a band, an orchestra, a circus or whatever. I'm not there to see any of that stuff. I'm there to watch a football game.

My biggest issue on this is the NFL going overboard here with more stupid rules. They were down there for SEVEN YEARS!!!! What harm were they doing???? And why all of a sudden after SEVEN YEARS does there have to be a rule put in place to remove them???

I can understand the rule if it is in the interest of safety. I see other teams have bands as well and a player or a band member getting hurt could be an issue. But then again, why are cheerleaders allowed on the field?

I like the band as they roam around the tailgates, and such. I never really cared for them during the game. But then again, I don't care for cheerleaders during the game as well as I am there for football, not the side shows. Taking nothing away from either group, just not my thing.

I'm there to watch a football game.

You are an old school fool! :shades:

IBut then again, why are cheerleaders allowed on the field?

Sex sells, and the band ain't sexy.

The league is getting further and further away from it's roots every year, and the ever-increasing corporatized atmosphere is really killing the spirit of the fanatics. It's a damn shame, too.

But Gary... I wouldn't know if they're the best... Heck, I wouldn't even know if they were the worst in the league!

Either way... I caught them tailgating in Yellow Lot and chuggin' down serious beers before the Saints game. For that.... they get my approval. I like a band who at least looks like they're having fun! I can buy that!

Also... I could care less if they sat behind me. Wouldn't bother me much...

i remember when the prep band used to be on the sidelines that was cool not anymore tho

No thanks, I come to watch a football game and The Houston Texans play not watch/listen to a band.
I am not saying they do not put work into what they do, I just dont think it is needed at an NFL game. They just never seemed to really get a response from the crowd, other than a few cheers(which I added due to respect not enjoying thier performance).

Signed,

The Washington Redskins band, Baltimore Raven's band and the drum corps in Green Bay. :shades:

I am not old school!!

You may have the fool part right though.

PEP BAND

Hope you guys and gals enjoyed the brats!!!
We enjoyed having you over.

ahhhh, but you are "old school" if all you want to see is football at a football game! It is a Total Gameday Experience at Reliantworld, man! :doot:

(p.s. I know I'm right about the fool part, because I always recognize a member of my own tribe! :joker:)

To each his own.

Having the band there has NOTHING to do with watching the football game!!!! They DON'T play during the game! geeezzzz!! They add to the gameday experience and make slack time a lot less boring. If anything interferes with watching the game, it's those damn goal post! lol

The NFL is doing everything they can to take the fun out of the game of football! Pretty soon they'll be telling us not to yell, that the noise might upset their overpaid prema-donna's, or might be distracting to the "suits" that waste time up in the club section! We, the fans, pay the big bucks for tickets, but, we seem to be the one's getting the shaft. If I want to just sit and watch a football game, and not experience the FUN of being there, I'll just stay at home. Hell of a lot cooler in my living room!!

I MISS THE BAND!! Hope they find a place for them by reg season!!

How about those fans who talk right next to you for the whole game or when something good happens they all stand up to see leaving folks like me out in the cold to wonder what happend?

Bull Pen Pep Band not allowed on the field? Hell, it ought to be Bull Pen Pep Band not allowed in the Yellow lot. Those are some free drink scavaging mofos right there! They always come over and play at our tailgates and leave with about 20 cups of frozen margaritas and at least 10 icey cold beers. They probably don't want their drunk asses on the field for fear of them hurling all over it. Drunk bastards!

BS!!!! I've never seen them take anything that was not offered them, NOR have I EVER seen any of them drunk! If you don't want them around, don't OFFER them anthing to drink, and tell them not to come around you. They definitely have BETTER things to do than irritate a sourpuss like you!!

Hey SheTexan, did you forget to drink your prune juice today? Chill out. I like the pep band and always joke with them they come to our tailgate spot. Especially since they always play the same damn songs. And yes, the cymbal guy has been intoxicated before. I was trying to bring some light hearted jabbing into this thread, but it seems like you and Yankee have a hard on for the reject band geeks. Stop taking things so seriously.

I know I'm quite a bit late... but which cymbal guy are you talking about?

Hell,....I think the Bull Pen Pep Band does a great job. If they want a beer out while they play in front of your tailgate....give them one....If you dont want them playing just telll them and they will move on.
Those guys and gals do a great job out in the tailgating lots to add to the atmosphere and get the fans pumped up. Sounds like some people got their wheaties whizzed on in this thread......

I remember how much fun it was to be on the drumline, in the stands during football games at spring. I think we had about as much fun coming up with little jammy jams as anyone. I think it would be cool to have them roam the stands, show up here and there and bust a groove then duece it.

But barrett's totally right. Especially with the roof open there's just no way to make that group sound good....or audible.
