Questions about parking on Saturday

I know the MetroRail does service for the games, but do the Metro Buses service the games as well?

Also, is there any cash parking around the stadium? I know you need a parking pass to park at the stadium, but I figured there would be pay to park like at Minute Maid.

I don't know about the Metro Buses. Haven't really seen too many around when the game nears. I do know the Metro Rail is the primary transportation from downtown.

There is cash parking on Main street north of 610 on the west side of the road. You have to look for it, it's usually a few small spots with limited parking. I believe it's around $20, and at some old auto body shops and discount stores. The cash parking is not ran by the Texans.

Like 84 said, all the parking around the stadium is reserved. There is some parking out on Main and it generally runs $20; then you can hoof it or take a bicycle cab.

One easy route is to park at the south end of downtown on the MetroRail line (generally can find street parking for free within a block or two of Main) and then hop on for the last few stops of the train. For instance there is a stop at Main & Richmond and one on Main about 7 or 8 blocks north of there.

I have a parking pass for sale! I will take $20 bucks for it. It is in the platinum lot...spot C4 (great spot right by the Blue Crew).

I'd like to add that if you use a private parking lot, ensure you get a ticket stub for your dashboard.Use CAUTION and be aware of the sort of people who are selling parking spaces. I once operated a parking lot right by Minute Maid. I've seen too many horror stories of people shelling out tons of money to park only to find that their car been towed. The people they gave their money to had no business charging for parking. It wasn't their lot!

Try to get a parking pass or ride the rail. Be safe as always. TAILGATE!!

That being said... I'm a new yeller lotter. What routes would the board recommend me to take for ease of coming in and out. What times are the worst to start coming in? I intend to tailgate as early as possible but things DO happen once in a while and I get caught running late... but NEVER late for opening kickoff so rest easy, folks...

I'm coming from Austin myself.

290 to 610 South exit Main Street, left under freeway. Don't ever try to go to a game an hour before it starts. You will not see kickoff.

If you get there early (4-2 hours in advance) you will never have traffic problems. After the game, you will (reguardless of what lot you're in) be stuck in traffic. And I highly, highly reccomend in yellow lot you park as close to the gate (there is only one exit for that huge lot). If you park up close to the practice bubble, expect to be stuck in traffic...for forever (I was stuck there for at least 1 hour before I was able to get out onto Main Street).

One other question since I'm down on humanity right now. My house got burglarized a couple weeks ago... how is the crime in the parking lots? Have any of you had stuff taken off your tailgate while you're in the stadium? I'm looking into hauling my trailer in for a larger, elaborate comfortable tailgate after I get my feet wet. How much focus should I put into getting its contents locked up? Basically, am I going to have to worry about coolers walking off?

I'll most likely be heading to the Blue Crew for the Minnesota game if their open invitation still stands. For tomorrow's game, I'm going to just wander aimlessly trying to see what it's all like. I've never tailgated. I've always bypassed that and got to my seats as quickly as I could after parking. I like watching warmups and all that. Being a new season ticket holder... I think it's time for me to try tailgating!

For the most part, people may take items from your coolers, but not the cooler itself. I've come out to an empty cooler before, but it's more of a rarity. Most theives are lazy and most thefts are crimes of oppotunity. They aren't going to lug a cooler around the parking lot, they'll just go back for more. I think the beer thefts are most likely underage kids, but again it's few and far between. Maybe I should throw some natty light on top before heading in?

I usually load my cooler in the back of the truck with the lid opening on the inside. If they really want into it, I don't mind, but it'll make it a tad harder. Just as long as they don't take my last beer...
The grill stays out, but it's big enough not to wander.


For the most part, use common sense. Lock up anything that could walk off that you don't want to lose, i.e. magnets, flags, your favorite koozie, etc. Everything else should be there when you return.


PS...as far as the Blue Crew invite - consider it open for every game. One and all are always welcome at The Blue Crew Tailgate.

If you are going to haul your trailer, you will need an additional parking pass FYI.

I've personally never had anything happen to me except for someone backing over my ole'smokey. I usually leave my cooler and grill out with absoultely no problems whatsoever. But that's not to say that some drunken ***** will not take anything. Heck, a whole grill was stolen from the blue lot last year prompting a radio station to donate a grill to the fan.

There's traffic after the game? I've never seen any at all. Then again, I'm usually in no rush to leave. I call BS on the "one hour to get to Main Street" thing. No way.

Off Old Spanish Trail and Stadium way, turn left. There are several pay parking spots there, but if you are early and lucky, you can park free on the street. It's right in front of the Holiday Inn hotel, walk through their parking lot a gate is open in the back to let you into reliant parking lot near yellow lot, but I'm thinnking it's maybe Brown. Anyway you're in!
