This does make our preseason Monday nighter a lot more interesting. Our guys better get riled and ready for this one because the game will draw a larger crowd than originally expected.

I am glad that Favre came back. I can relate to him, dying to put those pads back on. Good luck Brett, but watch out for #90 in two weeks.

I feel bad for Rosenfels
Man I do to. He finally had his chance and BAM .... gone. He really looked pretty good against the Colts this past weekend. Oh well eventually he will be the starter some where.

Just came across this. I don't believe there's been any significant reports of this game time injury.

Meanwhile, quarterback Sage Rosenfels missed a third day of practice because of an injury to his right ankle suffered early in the Vikings' preseason victory over Indianapolis. Rosenfels played two series in that game but hasn't been able to practice since.

"I'm just trying to get my ankle fixed right now," Rosenfels said when asked about Favre's arrival. "It's feeling pretty good for the most part, but just trying to get that right."

The Vikes are playing all their injuries close to the vest, I think. They were showing Rosenfels limping around when he hurt it.

Tavaris... injured. Rosenfels... injured. This could have been a partial catalyst in Favre coming in.

I do to. I bet given the choice to backup here, or Minnesota he would pick here.
I doubt it. At least it didn't sound that way in his little interview. He said the Vikings are the most talented team he's ever been a part of. I kinda agree with him.

I love Favre, but if I were Sage I'd welcome him to Minnesota with a hearty handshake and an even heartier shot to nuts. Poor Sage just can't catch a break.

I agree with the bolded. My point (and it is probably moot considering he has a chance to go to the Super Bowl) is that I think he will receive superior coaching here, and I would think he has some animosity (hidden) towards Brett. He had a chance to compete for the starting job at Minny and now he doesn't. Same situation as he had here, but we all know he has a better chance to get on the field because of injury at Minny.....right????

Why? I think the starters need to just sit this one out. No need to risk getting injured on a stupid pre-season game. Let the guys play that are just trying to make the team.

It's the 3rd preseason game. That's the game the starters see the most playing time. Usually around 3 quarters.

You think Sage is secretly wishing Mario will sack Farve and knock him out for the season?

Or maybe he's on the phone with Mario....:phone: Mario! Old buddy! Can you do me a favor?

Sorry...I forgot! For some reason I was thinking it was the last game of the season.

I still would rather see them sit out more of the game than risk injury.

I love Farve and Sage. I do think Brett should have stayed retired because of his injury and he is an old geezer. He is only hurting his career now and as a fan of his I wish he'd stop but I do understand it being hard for him to hang it up after playing so long. I hope he does retire sooner rather than later maybe one knock on his butt by Mario on Monday night will help him make a better call and do what is best for him next time around and that would be for him to retire. I'll still route for Brett just not against the Texans of course. I do place some of the blame on Minny for telling Sage he'll have a chance to win the starting job and then going out and signing an older more injury prone QB such as Brett Farve is now. Sage had his best chance to be the starter this season and I don't feel Farve is going to be much of an upgrade over Sage at this late stage in Farve's career as matter of fact Sage might even have a litte more zip on his passes at this point. I feel bad for Sage because it was his job to loose untill Brett come along to claim it but with Brett's recent injury history I doubt he'll finish the season and Sage is going to be back in the drivers seat with his own chance to shine once again. Coach Brad better hope Brett has something left in his tank or he'll soon be out of a job. Just sit back Sage and enjoy the ride your day to start will be here very soon.

He can't catch a break 'cause he ain't that damn good. He was about to get lucky and ride AP and the D possibly to the playoffs, but he's in the position he's in because he IS a backup. You wouldn't need a Favre if he wasn't.

As for the pre-season Monday nighter, I think the key there is PRE-SEASON. Let's not get somebody injured trying to raise things up a notch in a meaningless scrimmage.

Sage had his chance to cement himself as the starter when tavaris was injured, obviously Sage must have been less than stellar in camp. Or why would the vikings go all in and sign a 40 year old favre to 12 mil a year?

Last season he filled in for Matt and while doing so he made some mistakes in large part due to him wanting to be a hero and trying to show he has what it takes to be a starter in the NFL. He tried too hard I'd like to see how does as the starting QB knowing that he is the man already and there isn't anyone barking up his tree for the starting job anymore you just never know what might happen. I personaly feel that he might do quite well JMO.

Sage isn't going anywhere, except to the top of the list, when Favre does his swan song.

Vikes will sit tight at quarterback, for now

Despite the arrival of Brett Favre, the Minnesota Vikings will continue to carry four quarterbacks on the roster for the foreseeable future.

Per a league source, the Vikings plan to make no moves, given the possibility that Favre (or maybe someone else) will get injured during the preseason.

We're also told that, while Favre will start Friday night's preseason game against the Chiefs, he'll participate in one drive "at most." Tarvaris Jackson then will get the balance of the work with the first-team offense, with Sage Rosenfels and John David Booty mopping up.

In the end, it remains to be seen whether the Vikings cut or trade one of the quarterbacks. The assumption is that Sage Rosenfels is safe. Jackson carries a base salary of only $535,000, which makes him an inexpensive No. 3 -- and possibly a candidate for a trade to a team like the Rams.

We recently mentioned the possibility of cutting Booty and sliding him through waivers and onto the practice squad. The problem, however, is that he picked up an accrued year in 2008, and thus he's ineligible for the practice squad.

So, in the end, the Vikings will have to decide whether to keep four quarterbacks, or whether to get rid of Jackson or Booty.

I hate Brett Favre. I wish he would go away and stay away. Sage will do OK with the Vikes if/when he gets his chance. I liked the post about him trying to hard. He might do very OK if he's comfortable in a starting role.

Because Brad Childress does not want bet his job on a used Rosenchopper?

He likes it when you talk about him.

There's a distinct psychiatric pattern he has demonstrated...........that of Narcissistic Personality Disorder............. classic wrapped up in their own universe with little or no concern for others and how their behavior affects others...........Can only show emotions and empathy for themselves and their plight.

Like... someone you know?... no, thats not right, help me out here :)

I dont care what people think of #4, he's brings some fun and swagger to the game, something thats quite lacking these days. He always deliver solid entertaintment, regardless if it results in a win or a loss.

#4 kicks rump! :)

I don't mind his play.
It's the drawn out "drama queen" crap that's reeeeally old.
And generally something men don't do. Not that all women do it. But, in my limited experience, I see it more in high maintenance women (and not all women are HM either) than I have seen it in guys.

Well, one thing's for sure. If the old boy can still throw, the Vikings will be harder to beat. I myself am really tired of him and other drama queens in the NFL, but you can't take anything away from his qualities as a offensive field general. He won't last the whole season though. This is Farve's last comeback. Sage will be the Vikings starter at the end of the season.

IMO ofcourse. LOL

That might not be a bad scenario. When Favre's arm gives out on him like it did last season, maybe Sage can pull 4-5 quality games out of his anatomy such that the Vikes make it to the NFC playoffs - and Sage manages to notch a couple of playoff wins - maybe that'll enhance his rep such that he shakes that "career backup" tag.

That would be a great season for ole Sage. That's the way I'd like to see this story unwind.

Of course, Childress would have to have the 'nads to bench Favre when his play starts to slip

I tend to agree, Gary. With a pretty good Oline and a back like Petersen, Sage might have led the Vikes pretty deep.

Apples and roadmaps
This is going to be a comical disaster. Favre's in decline, he can't read defenses as quickly as he used to, and he can't endure cold weather anymore. He proved last year that when he's pressured, he rolls the dice on risky, forced plays instead of being patient and adjusting his game. At the end of it all, after his coach couldn't reel him in, that coach quickly went from "genius" to "fired".

When history repeats itself against teams that have been playing against Favre for virtually his entire career, his final legacy will be "Coach Killer". Sayonara, Childress.
