Favre Watch.....Again

Second Honeymoon

Hall of Fame
FOX Sports is 'reporting' that one unnamed player is saying that Favre will be joining them this season and that the deal is already done. Another unnamed player is saying that he doesn't know if the deal is done but that Favre will be joining the team by the 3rd preseason game.

I love Favre, but this is beyond ridiculous. Favre owes it to the fans to come out and refute this story if its not true. He also owes it to the players giving their all to compete for the starting job that he refused to accept. Sage and even Tarvaris deserve better.

Favre, I have supported you and your waffling but if this story is true, shame on you.

Hes the Roger Clemens of football. Its a shame too, I always liked Favre, hes just making himself a spectacle, and its tarnishing his image.

This is not Favre saying this it is members of the Vikings. Maybe they need to stop bringing it up and or going after him.

agreed.. I think any one of us would be hard pressed to stay retired if a company kept throwing money at us .. if we would come back ...esp for a year ...

I know, I know.. how many millions can one make..but if you loved your job and enjoyed what you did ...retired and a boss throws money saying come back....who knows

Favre said I am retired.. unlike Clemens which said he would think about it

WCCO-TV in Minneapolis cites a high-level source with the Vikings as saying Brett Favre will sign on Tuesday.

The Hattiesburg Laurel Regional Airport reports that Brett and Deanna Favre boarded a plane with a Vikings logo and were headed to Minneapolis. Multiple reports confirm that Favre is en route and will sign with the Vikings later today. The latest reports back FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer's prediction that Favre would join the team shortly. Favre accomplished his goal of avoiding training camp and will be handed the starting job with three weeks to prepare.

Poor Sage! The dude has a solid game then this?

Damn. As much as I love Favre as a football player, I gotta say the dude has some issues.

Look at www.nfl.com the breaking news banner on the page says Favre close to signing deal today.

I used to love Brett Favre but the saga that takes place with him year in and year out has greatly diminished any respect I have for him. I feel bad for Sage. I hope Favre flops big time.

I feel very sorry for Sage but Favre is Favre. I don't like the way he handled it but signing Favre gives the Vikings their best chance to win this year. Favre has done enough in the league and still has a good enough arm (when healthy) to make him very coveted and improve a team's chances. Remember the guy was doing awesome for Jets until his injury.

He also increased the value of my block of Vikings@Texans preseason tickets tenfold, so call me selfish.

Honestly, wasn't a fan of Sage starting here but I think he throws enough TDs and about the same Ints lately as Favre. I don't see it as a major upgrade.

Childress better pray Favre has something left. Otherwise, he's almost guaranteed to be out of a job. The next coach would be drooling with all the talent Childress was unable to succeed with. Plug a decent QB in the offense and they're deep in the playoffs.

I was getting worried they would take the Texans off the Mon night preseason game in favor of philly. Now that third preseaon game is looking really big.

It sounds like ownership was a huge factor in maintaining the courtship of Favre. Ownership is firmly behind this so that may buy Childress some goodwill but he is on a hotseat anyway. If Childress didn't win with Sage he was fired so it stands to reason that if Childress doesn't win with Favre he will be fired too.

I may be in the minority, but this is the type of stuff I love in sports. I love when it becomes personal and when there are real rivalries. It's painfully obvious that Favre is coming back to get even with Packers management. Its a little petty but its real and I respect that from a player. It shows a stubborn streak of epic proportions and it shows someone who is super competitive and wants to go out a winner on his terms. We shall see what happens and I love storylines like this. MNF in October is going to be awesome. Vikes v Packers.

Unless they play him Friday night, a mere three days after the signing, it looks like Favre will be making his Viking debut . . . in Reliant. Methinks the circus will be coming to town.

Whoo hoo!! I'm psyched! I love Brett Favre despite his retirement issues. I hope he makes it all the way to the Super Bowl only to lose to the Texans.

And if he has a terrible performance all will be glossed over because he just signed, and if plays good against our 2's and 3's he will be an immortal football god, blah blah blah. Either way, get ready for it to be regurgatated for the next couple weeks while real football news and reports gets overlooked. *pukes*

Go away Farve, just go away.

That's for damn sure. I've been enjoying the past couple weeks of actual football on NFLTA (other than the Vick bs). Now it's going to be a full hour of Favre every day.

Honestly, I don't mind him coming back. It's just all the media attention that rubs me the wrong way.

My guess is that he'll be playing with their 1's against our 1's, but regardless of his performance, nobody will care how he does until the regular season.

As far as Sage, I appreciate what he did while he was with the Texans, and from what I've read, and the interviews I've heard him do, he seems to be a great guy, but the reality is there's not a team in the NFL (including the Texans) who wouldn't be looking to upgrade the QB position if Sage were their starter. I realize that it's a big question as to whether the Vikings have done that, but my guess is even if Favre is a 1-year (or less) solution, the Vikings will be looking at next years draft/free agent class for their QB of the future.

This is how I feel, as well. The Favre angle has absolutely no impact on my life, so what do I care? But the media coverage reveals a collective man-crush that's just ridiculous.

Sage is capable of going on tears where he plays very well and we all wish him the best in Minnesota (right up until his success conflicts in any way with our own) so I think it would be hilarious if Favre returned and then couldn't win the job because Sage was having one of his runs.

If Sage wanted to cry, i wouldn't blame him.

I bet this is how Sage feels..

Well, hopefully we can retire him in Reliant.

This guy is a jerk. I can't believe he still has a following out there, and that the players are wetting their pants in anticipation of a guy who was good 10 years ago.

LOL. I hope he stinks so bad that he gets boo'd into retirement.

I think we need an "All Encompassing What the hell is Brett Farve doing now, OMG did he just fart, it smells like roses" Thread.

According to Chris Carter, Favre will be starting on Friday night (3-days from now) against the Chiefs.

The Circus will still be going strong 10 days later when we play them on Monday night - especially since it's a nationally televised game. Call it a hunch, but I'm thinking ESPN probably won't be playing up the "Sage Rosenfels returns to Houston to battle his former team" angle.

I have a desperate need to see Mario Williams and Conner Barwin crush Brett Favre out of existence. I'm not necessarily calling for intentional injury but I can't deny that seeing the Texans defense put Sage back in the starters spot wouldn't be fun. After what Jared Allen did to Schaub last season I think it would be a karma kind of thing.

3rd preseason game, starters play the most time of any preseason matchup. I think this is going to be a great game to watch.

As you said I don't root for intentional injury but if a helmet went under the chin while he turned to scramble or released a pass, I might smile.....real big.

Exactly. None of this Jared Allen cheap shot stuff. I don't condone that and would never want to see our players do it. Just really intense football like the game matters as opposed to the usual sleepwalking preseason mess. I'm glad we're going to see this when in preseason week 3 because that's when the teams game plan and "sort-of" go all out. for a half. I'd like to see the Texans welcome him back to the NFL with some real contact. Some puppy like Barwin who's trying to impress the coaches and who has those young rookie "fresh legs" gets free and knocks Brett back into the early 90's until the smelling salts come out and wake him up would be a lot of fun to watch.

"BAM!!!! Enjoy your 2009 season Grandpa."

You took my post right out of this thread. I kept thinking how I wanted Mario and Barwin to show what they got so the rest of the world can see.

Based on what you pointed out about that being week 3 preseason, I'm circling the game on the schedule as we speak.

I'm sure Sage is sending texts, emails, and letters to all in Houston and they all say " Hey guys, I just wanted to ask if yall could hook "it" up for me. I came through when you needed it...okay, most of the time. But can't yall just do me this one favor? I won't ask again."

I would like to see the end of Favre but the more I think about it I don't want that to come at a cost to The Texans. You know that it would be called a cheap shot and whichever Texan did it would get suspended. Especially since Farve's media replacement Mark Sanchez is going to be without two starters for his defense come 09-13-09. Anything they can do to help Marky will be done right away.

Yep. I say return the favor from last year. I wouldn't want to be stingy in that regard. :)

Poor Sage - This guy can't catch a break.

When it looked like he might have a chance to compete for a starting spot in Houston, we brought in Matt.

It looks like he is the front runniner in Minn., and they bring in Brett.

You have to think he is going to have an opportunity to play at some point in the season. I think it is unlikely that BF can last all season without getting knicked up.

It is easy to get caught up by last year's Indy game - which, but the way, still makes me completely sick to my stomach - but the guy did all that he was asked of here and played pretty well. I think he could be a good starting QB in the league. Minn was a good fit - he wouldn't be asked to do too much with their running game.

Soo, does anybody think Childress will still say it's a QB competition? I'd think I'd laugh myself into a self pee.

After watching the snippets of his interview with Ed Werder it's pretty obvious his sour grapes from being let go by Green Bay and the idea of revenge is playing a large role in this come back. Pretty small of him if you ask me. I hope we give him a rude awakening when we play him and Green Bay smokes them twice this year.
