Battle for 5th receiver

Who's your Texans 5th receiver?

The way I see it we are fortunate to have great depth at receiver, with the top 4 being AJ, KW, Andre Davis, and David Anderson. I wanted to see what the census is around here about the 5th spot. Jacoby Jones has his share of staunch supporters and critics around here, and while he appears to be having a good camp he has some decent competition particularly from Darnell Jenkins IMO. Other WR's who have been showing up in camp include Martinez and Mike Jones. At this point who ya got at the 5 spot?

The only thing is that Jenkins really showed no dangerousness when returning punts. Jones still has that speed and creativity, he just traumatised everybody last year with his drops.

I expect Jenkins will get a lot of chances to prove his worth on ST.

I'm still giving Jacoby the edge right now because of his tenure and his ability to take punts to the house. That may change because Jenkins is coming on strong , and especially since Jacoby has been known to get in slumps.

Kubiak and Smith spent a 3rd round pick on Jones. Jones has produced points and field position. Yes, he's fumbled too much. No, he hasn't developed as a WR (though he's had a good camp). Yes, he has struggled with maturity issues. But, Jones is one of the top 5 punt returners in the NFL. There is no battle...Jones is on the team.

I've been high on Jenkins for quite some time now. Personally, I can see him eventually taking DA's spot in the slot. I'd like to see how he performs the remainder of the preseason, but I think he's gotten too good to be placed on the PS again without being snatched by another team.

The way I see it is Jones hardly was needed last year and really even in the year when we lost our star to injury. He did however produce as a returner. If we all of a sudden switch him out for a guy like Jenkins, Jenkins has to show that he for sure will be better in one area or both. I haven't seen Jenkins do much more as a receiver or a punt returner.

To me 2 punt returns to the house doesn't make up for the fumbles. I'd rather have a guy who averages 10 yards and never fumbles than someone who can break it but has a good chance of coughing it up. That being said, Jenkins hasn't really proven himself to be any better than Jones at this point. I was underwhelmed by Jacoby as a receiver. If he was utilized more to stretch the D I think he could make it as the #5 receiver on this team

I'm going with Jenkins he did have a good kickoff return of 40+ yards and some nice punt returns and no fumbles.He would have had more catches if our #2 qb could have gotten the ball to him.When all said and done it most likely will be JJ because he has the experience.

I went with other. I'm finished with the Jacoby Jones experiment. I loved his returns but I feel fairly confident in our offense this season that I'm willing to sacrifice a few yards of field position in order to have a full arsenal at WR. I really liked Martinez. I thought he kicked butt at camp.

It's time for us to seek out another return specialist in the draft.

That is correct. Top 5 in pretty much every category including fair catches and fumbles.

I cannot see him being cut, but worry about him during pressure situations this season.

Based on the game Saturday, I went with Darnell but it is way too early. The only thing JJ showed was he seems to have settled down a bit which was good. Prior to the game I had noted he would be jumping in mama's arms again, but weather was crazy. Just glad he did not fumble. Like others, I think if JJ can just hold on to ball he will be on roster but he needs to have good TC as a WR, unless he just goes nuts doing returns. Next game could be his spotlight moment.

I thought McCain could return punts ?

If I think Deljuan can knock out a 1st rd. pick on the DL , I guess I can see Jenkins beating out Jacoby .

I voted Jenkins! He really looked promising Sat night. Everytime JJ got back to return a punt I had to close my eyes. JJ has problems holding on to the ball in DRY weather, and it was a freaking monsoon out there. Scared the begebees out of me!! lol

I voted Jenkins also, mainly because JJ makes me so nervous when he is out there. I think Kubiak likes JJ and wants him to grow up enough to contribute consistently which translates to JJ one more year. I would prefer Jenkins as he looked more comfortable (less stressed) and did some good things this weekend. JJ always appears to be as nervous as I am when he is back there waiting for the ball....which makes me even more nervous.

Me too, its like when you don't want to look when the opposing team is kicking a possible game winning FG.

I would like too see Jenkins make it, but I think Jacoby still has the upper hand.

I think Jones has to make an impressio or he wont make it. Jenkins made plays and secured the ball well. He ran good roues and even did well returning.
