Kolb hurt in Eagles practice

I know some of you have an interest in how he is doing.
He sprained his left knee in this morning's practice. He slipped and fell in the pocket.
We have had a very wet summer up here and received two heavy rain storms yesterday. Today is very hot and humid. The grass will not dry. Per a twitter site, Kolb just slipped on the wet grass and fell. He was carted off and will have an MRI later today.
Will post again if I hear anything.

How's he been doing otherwise? Does he look like someone who will succeed McNabb?
I think Kolb has the talent to succeed McNabb. Will he is another question.
I think a lot depends of this season. Both McNabb's and Kolb's contracts expire after next year.
If McNabb plays at a high level and the Eagles go deep into the playoffs and then make a move to sign him to an extension, I think you will see Kolb hit the trading block before he can become a UFA. The Eagles then draft someone to groom.
Kolb is not going to sign another contract with the Eagles to be a back-up. Nor do I think he should. He has the talant to start in the league. He will make a move to go someplace to be a starter and be paid as one.
Reid and FO really like Kolb. Kolb was hand picked by Ried. Somebody is going to get an extention. Right now I don't think even the Eagles know who.

Geez, Eagles camp is turning into a MASH unit!
Bradley and TE Ingram out for year with ACL's.
Shawn Andrews yet to practice with bad back. Stacy Andrews just started to practice Sunday. Westbrook will not practice at all during camp.
Trent Cole sprained left shoulder on same play Kolb was hurt.
D. Jackson strained knee Friday. Not serious and is back working. A. Samuel has been in and out since the start of camp.
And they still have 4 games to play before the season even starts.

I am not an Eagles fan however always enjoyed the discussions about their players on 610 WIP when I lived up there in Wilmington. I can see the dilemma. McNabb is the proven guy however you have to ask how much does he have left in the tank. Kolb is younger and therefore has the potential of being the future of the franchise however you really don't know what you are going to get with him.

If you know WIP, then you know that there are now Kolb haters because of the Ed Reed pick for a TD. A bust, never be any good, on and on and on. There is no way of knowing what Kolb will become without regular season games.
A pick by a future Hall of Fame safety proves nothing.
I have watched Kolb in camp since he has been here. He has improved every year, is smart, has all the skills needed to be an NFL QB. Only regular seasom game experience will show what Kolb is or will become. The only way he gets that is if McNabb goes down. Nobody wants that.
I am in the pro Kolb camp. I think he will be a very good NFL QB and the furture of the Eagles. McNabb not taking an extention, only a raise over two years, blurs the issue. This is getting similar to the Farve-Rodgers time in Green Bay.

Kolb's knee is not that serious. They call it day to day, but will not play against New England Thursday night.

I like Kolb. If he can learn to get the ball out of there a little faster, I think he'll be fine.

Not to hyjack my own thread, but you guys may or may not know that the Eagles signed Jason Babin to a one year deal late last week. They have been using him as a hand on the ground DE on both sides of the line. Reid called the signing "a vet DE who we want to take a look at."

That's what made WIP entertaining for me. The extremes from the Eagles fans and the media. I loved it during the Buddy era with Randall, Jim McMahon, etc.

Jason Babin. I think once Reid takes a good look at him you Eagle fans won't have to worry about looking at him much yourselves.

So speaking of the Eagles, are the fans pretty confident they will take the division this season? IMO that division is a two team race between the Eagles and Giants. Eli not having a go to guy is a concern for me as a Giants fan. I will also be interested to see how Jacobs fairs without Ward sharing time with him. Losing Spags is another concern for the Giants.

However you guys lost your DC also. I think McNabb's window of opportunity is closing and really needs to get something done this season. How are you guys looking at wide out and in the backfield?

As far as Babin, I look at that as a signing to light a fire under some kids they are a bit disappointed with. If he makes the team, it will be as someone who gives Cole or Parker a rest. I they can get something out of him, fine. If not they go on to someone else.

There was a thread on the Eagles board titled "Is this the best team in Eagles history?" So that should tell you something about what the fans expect.
In my opinion a stupid thread. They haven't played a game.

They do look to have talent, but that is not enought. I have questions about if McDermott can adjust of the fly when they need to. Who will step up in leadership roles. This is a young team. The old leadership in Dawkins, Thomas, and Runyan are gone. This is not just on the field. This pot arrest with Parker at camp is something new.
The so called starting OL has yet to play a down together. At one practice the only starter playing his poaition was the center. Will they run the ball more. This McCoy kid is having a great camp. He can run inside. They now have a liget FB in Weaver. Something they haven't had since Jon Richie. That should help a lot.
Then, of course, who stays healthy.

I tend to think the Giants and Eagles also, but I do not discount Washington and Dallas. The Haynesworth signing makes them better. Also done to stop the Giants running game.
Dallas wll get Jones back. But I am insterested to see how they replace the on field production Ownes gave them.
The Giants get Osi back. I like Nicks and think they will not miss Burress as much as the press thinks. Burress took too many games off over the years I have watched him.
The guy the Giants will miss is Toomer. A very underrated player, even playing in New York. Smith, or Tyree will have to step up.
If the Giants over use Jacobs, get him tired or dinged, they may be in trouble. That running game takes a lot of pressure off Eli.It also shortens the game and rests their defense. Eli is not his brother. He can still be forced into errors.

HOU-TEX

Ah, Football!
The Eagles have been my favorite to win that division for quite some time now, but they seem to be dropping like flies lately. I'm sticking with them because I think the offense can really light it up this season with D-Nabb, Jackson, Maclin, Westy, McCoy, etc.

They're sorta like the Texans to me. They appear to have a stout offense, but have questions lingering on the defensive side of the ball.

Forgot to answer the WR and backfield question.
WR first.
D. Jackson is having a outstanding camp. You have heard people say "he get it." Jackson gets it. They can't cover him. Gets by the DB's and is gone. Seems to have found another gear once he gets into the open. Could be a pro bowl year.
Avant is in and out of his breaks faster then any of the receivers. Catches everything. Should have a big year in the slot and the third down go to guy.
Baskeet, Brown and Curtis are all having a good camp. A kid named Gibson, the 6 round pick is a very good slot receiver. Catches every ball thrown to him. Three years ago, he makes the team. Today I don't know.
Maklin is paying for the week long hold out. Having problems getting off the jam, fighting the ball, and finding McNabb throws a lot harder then they throw at Mo.
They want to use him as a punt returner to save Jackson.
Maclin has looked awful at it. Muffs, not catching balls that he should, catching balls he should let go, dancing around and not just taking off with the ball. The coaching staff is up set with this. As far as his receiving goes, he is way behind the sixth round pick.
The lose of Ingram hurts. He was looking to be a real player and someone who would get plays put in for him. Had a nice habit of getting lost and getting open. Celck and Ingram would have made a nice combo. They do have a UFA named Bright that has been playing well at TE. Has a good shot of staying now that Ingram is gone.

Backs
Weaver is a true FB who can catch the ball. Also a good runner. Has some speed. But his blocking is what matters and he is the best is a long time.
Westbrook is on the sidelines and will stay there until the regular season. Is healthy, and they say strong as an ox. Will be Westbrook when the time comes. McCoy has had an excellent camp. I want to see him in the per season. He looks to be able to run inside, has great moves, and catches the ball. A young Westbrook type player.
There is a lot of fan talk about signing a vet RB. Warrick Dunn, for one. They might do that, but I have heard that they want to give McCoy as many touches as they can. They look to be going to use him a lot.
I think a vet will come in near the season opener. There is nothing impressive behind Westbrook and McCoy.

I was sorry to see Kolb got hurt and am hoping he makes it in the NFL.

I watched him play every game his first year at U of H when my son was in the marching band there and he was exciting to watch.

Glad to hear he is having a good camp.
