Burgess now a Patriot

Reported last night on Philly tv news that the Eagles offered Oakland a third and an unamed player for Burgess.

Look at NY Yankees for example just because you sign players and stack your team up with good guys does not mean anything. This might backfire on N.E.

This is actually pretty good for the Raiders. He was a smallish DE who was more of an OLB in a 3-4. The Raiders won't be running the 3-4 so they get a 3rd and a 5th. I think both teams do well here.

Burgess has been Oakland's only pass rushing threat for the last four years. He missed about half of the season last year and the team leader in sacks only had 5.

In the years prior to that he led the team with 8, 11, and 16 sacks.

I think they are going to miss him big time, even if just because he took pressure off the other guys on passing downs.

For a smallish DE he lead the NFL in sacks one year with 16 and had a solid 11sack season that followed. The deal could turn into a third and fourth which ends up being ok for the Raiders, but still a real bargain for the Pats after shipping out Vrabel.

Burgess is a beast. This isn't good news if you think your team is a playoff team and you are in the AFC (especially the East). Oakland will just draft some punter with 4.3 speed with that pick, which is going to just about become a 3rd round pick since the Pats will be a playoff team, so I'd say NE wins hands down on this one.

I didn't say he didn't do well in the situation at DE. I just think they might be changing things around where he would be better off in the OLB role in the 3-4...ala Ware. I think getting what they could..a 3rd and 5th out of a guy that didn't want to be there wasn't horrible. Obviously the Pats got great value.

al might croak in the next 8 months.... so raider fans can hold onto that shred of hope :)

at this point, i'm just waiting on them to sign Vick for the minimum so they can add that wildcat package everybody else is doing. I can hear belichick now.. "If it's not there mike just throw it up as far as you can to randy.."

I hate the patriots

:spit: QFT!

Anyone else read Burress? As in Plaxico? Imagine them apples...

Not that them restacking the stack they already stacked after stacking the stack with stacks of stacks is really news anymore...but another good move for the Patriots.

now how is that so? If he was an egotistical maniac and troublemaker it could, but how would signing a good player with a clean background hurt the team?
