Texans nfln top ten "snake bit" teams?

With the dawn of our most optimistic time of the year in our most optimistic season, I got to thinking about our past.

NFL Network is listing the top 10 snake bit teams on Friday. Do you think we make that list? Do you think we should? Are we too new? Does our historic IR record make us a top contender?

With the majority of the stars seemingly aligning what could go wrong? Surely it's our time... right?
 
I don't think we have enough history to be considered snakebit. Most of what we've gone through has been kinda normal for expansion teams. We vertainly got headed in the right direction faster than the sAints, Bucs or Falcons.

I agree with this, but I still think we'll be on the list. People expect a new franchise to make the playoffs within 5 years, even though looking at how most of them have faired in the past will tell you otherwise. The Texans have not really been any better than their record has indicated (well, maybe a little due to our division), but things could be worse for a franchise in its first decade.

We will still get some negative attention until we actually win our division or a play-off game, which is likely to happen in the same year. Question is, "Which one?"
 
I agree with DocBar, the Texans haven't been around long enough to make a list like this. Now, if they had a top ten snake-bit "season" for teams, I bet we'd make that one, but not for the franchise as a whole. Just don't see it.
 
I can only think of 5 that are really snake bit. Browns, Bengals, Oilers/tits(the come back and 1 yard short, ouch), the Falcons(back to back winning seasons plx), and of course the Lions.

Cardinals just got off that list. And of course the Aints.
 
#1 has to be the Buffalo Bills. #2 would have been Broncos but I guess Elway and those back to back Superbowl wins gets them off the list.

I don't think we have enough history to be considered. Maybe we could be #10 or something.

Bengals, Browns, Oilers should make the list. Ha! That's 75% of the old division....LOL
 
I agree with Falcons being there. What about the Eagles? McNabb and Reid have been close, lot's of conference championship games, even broke through with TO there and fell short in the big game.
 
Buffalo HAS to be on any list to do with this. 4 Super Bowl loses IN A ROW?!?!?!? The Vikings get on that list, along with the Oilers/Tacks.

I can understand calling Buffalo snakebit, but I'm of the train of thought that says four SB's in a row is pretty successful. Especially if it turns out Cards by virtue of their one apperarance takes them off that list. When I think of Buffalo and snakebite, I feel like the bitee and not the biter. :headhurts:

I thought about that and decided that 1 or 2 SB loses is just bad luck. 4, on the other hand is snakebit. There just ain't no way in hell you were destined to win one. The one appearance thing goes with the Tacks, also. They made it to one, so they aren't snakebit, even though I suffered thru every season with them from my 1st game in 1975 or so til 1994. There were some heartbreaking playoff losses in those 20 yrs.

Where's San Diego?

They haven't won a league championship since the AFL days.

As offensively explosive as the 80s Air Coryell teams were, they never made it to a single S/B.

They've gotten to the S/B once only to let Steve Young and Jerry Rice put up 49 pts on 'em. In recent memory, they've won their division the last three years in a row but haven't turned that into a S/B appearance.

During that time, they had the best back in all the land, L.T., only to have him come up lame in the playoffs, when they needed him the most.

Don't you think the Chargers qualify for this list? I'd put them in right along side the Oilers. In fact, at least the Oilers/Titans put on a good show when they finally got to the big game. The Chargers stunk it up.

....Jamie Dukes must have made up this list.
 
Detroit doesn't count because they've just been pathetic for decades. Even Barry Sanders couldn't get them MUCH respectability. Barry was a hammer and when a hammer is your only tool, all of your problems look like nails. Detroit is a special brand unto themselves, I HOPE.

That has to be the most accurate, comprehensive list of it's kind I've ever seen. One can argue positions within the top 10, but not really the top 10 itself. That is remarkable, to me.

I dunno about that.
...how do the Jets and Chiefs make the list? Both of those franchises have won a Super Bowl. Having a Super Bowl win in your history should make you ineligible for the "snakebit" list. The Chargers are oh-for-one S/B appearance. So is Seattle. If teams with a S/B win make the list then the oh-fer teams should make it ahead of them.

They didn't get the memo that the Houston Oilers are now called the Tennessee Titans? Why the distinction? They have continued to choke in the postseason just as much as they did as the Oilers. The Super Bowl appearance didn't lesson that, it only solidified the curse due to the way they lost that game. Losing in the playoffs is losing in the playoffs no matter if it is the 1st round or the SB. That SB would have killed me as an Oiler fan. I would have been up nights with the "if only"s. One freaking yard!!!, kill me now!!! Fortunately I slept well that night exhausted from laughing at Bud's sorry ass thinking of where he could stick his AFC ring.

Snake bit to me means choking and losing in horrible fashion. Your better off being a Lions fan than an Oilers now Titans fan because a Lions fan doesn't expect anything. The Oilers now Titans are all about getting you high thinking something great is going to happen to only have the worst thing happen in the last minute to crush you as a fan.

Last season had to rank as one of their worst choke jobs in franchise history. They choked away homefield advantage throughout the playoffs in the first game to the freakin Ravens in their own stadium. Most Titans fans were convinced they were going to the Super Bowl. Didn't happen and window closed since Collins just has to go back to being Collins, and of course Vince will be Vince.
