6. Coaches' dress code
The NFL is right: San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan shouldn't be allowed to wear a coat and tie on the sideline. If there's a company uniform, then that person should wear the company uniform. As a player, I wanted to wear a different color sock, even low socks, and wear my jersey cut, but I couldn't do those things.

The NFL is a multibillion dollar business, and the uniform of an NFL coach happens to be tied to an apparel company that's making money for the league. It's no different if you were working for IBM or Microsoft. If Bill Gates told you what to wear, you would wear it. And based on the kind of money Nolan is making, he should be happy to wear the clothes of an NFL head coach.

Now, there are some coaches who could use an upgrade in their wardrobe. Bill Belichick always wears an old, ratty, high-school-gym-coach sweatshirt.

And Andy Reid could use a little dressing up. But he's not going to look good in anything anyway

honestly I never thought about it.. mainly because I would see a collared shirt of Capers and yet Belichick.. would wear (like it said) his gym rat sweatshirt..
 
The only thing I know about coaches dress codes is that Mike Tice is the only coach allowed to wear a tie. Its some little weird thing in his contract. I wish they would go back old school and stop making the coaches billboards.
 
After MUCH consideration I'm with the NFL on this one. At first I was like this is stupid they wont let the man wear a suit but then i realized. THIS IS BUSINESS.

You walk into Subway, McD's, Dell, or any place else. U think subway and mcd's employees even the MANAGER is wearing McD's uniforms.

I'm sure Dell doesn't go around using IBM computers at their offices.

You are trying to make money. Bottomline.

The only dresscode I'd enforce is to tell Beli up in NE stop looking like he slept in it the night before (which he probably did.)
 
i hate the nfl's dress code rules...i think they're are some of the most stupid, overbearing rules there is...if a coach wants to wear a suite on the sidelines by all means let him...it's the way things used to be
 
Yes Coach Landry was always very smartly dressed...very polished..and he was a very classy man.

A very quiet man too I think.

I don't really think to much about the coaches dress to be honest. It's sort of a non-issue with me.

The way IT USE to be is the keywords. You gotta get as much marketing as u can.
 
No it doesn't make the players do anything better or worse.

I think it just speaks more to the person...Tom Landry represented himself better than say Bill Belichick who for the most part at games looks like he got dressed in the dark.

It's a perception thing. You see a nicely dressed person and that image sticks with you.

Some teams use to have dress codes when they traveled. I don't know if that is the case anymore or not.
