Unofficial Depth Chart

HoustonTexans.com updated their depth chart 4 days ago although it's not official. It's really nice seeing our rookies in there.

I've got a couple of raised eyebrows but I'd like to see what you guys think about where certain players are on the list.

I really enjoyed seeing Deljuan on first team and Travis on second team. I really did!

Moats also appears to have the edge over Chris Brown.

We're going to see a LOT of Caldwell. He's backing up all three interior slots. There also is a story on HT about the Texans offensive line talking about this.

I'm kind of disappointed to see Cato June getting lost in the shuffle and being pushed back to a mere 3rd string at only WLB. He used to play all three.

I know I know I know this is UNOFFICIAL. Still... some Texan official at the website updated it. Probably Nick Scurfield. He's as official as it gets. He's our liason.

A couple of things I found interesting:

1) Glover is ahead of Molden on the depth chart.
2)TJ is no longer the starting NT, Robinson is.
3) Okam is listed as third string for both NT and DT positions. I was thinking he would have difficulty making the team. Perhaps this is a good thing?

glaring to see Casey like a hanging chad four deep @ TE when he should be a blocking, wildcat option @ FB behind Leach. Also if Dunta remains MIA looks like a three man battle between Reeves, Bennett & Quinn, very interesting.

A couple of notes for those who posted above:

1. I am excited that Deljuan is getting the opportunity to play, but I believe he is first team because TJ is out with a hernia. There was a thread about this, but I haven't heard if it is official or not.

2. Casey is listed 4th likely because he is going to have a multifaceted role. I doubt we will see him just at the TE position or just at the FB position. He will likely be all over the field, so I think it is inconsequential where he is listed on the depth chart.

I read something on the Chron (right after I started this thread)(by McClain?) that specifically mentioned Molden and TJ as recovering from injuries. Maybe that's why Molden is behind Quin as well. Just stood out to me after seeing that both of those guys have dropped back on the unofficial depth chart.

Yes, Molden is still recovering from his injury......I saw McClain talk about that in his article this weekend as well. Until Molden recovers and can get back on the field at full speed he has no shot to move up the depth chart over fully healthy players. Hopefully he'll be ready to go for camp, because he was a special team demon last year.

+1 on both

We appear to be notably weak at RB and CB. The cornerback situation could still be a problem area for us, as it has been for several years in a row now.

Wow, according to his bio Deljuan is up to 320 lbs. This should be relatively accurate because it lists guys like Cushing at Adibi at 262 and 243 which I specifically recall being reported during the weigh ins. I also believe Deljuan was listed a shade under 300 last season.

Deljuan was playing in the 275-280 range last year, which makes it all the more admirable that he's playing NT. Then again NT's in the 4-3 don't have to be as much of space-eaters as 3-4 NT's.. Really, a NT should be your interior lineman who gets the most pressure upfield off the snap, which was Deljuan last year.

I think you have that backwards. The NT lines up where he will hold up double-teams, the 3-tech DT will be shooting gaps to get upfield.

Line backers and D line are expected to be better & that should take pressure off CBs and safeties. I am predicting a much better performance from the corners this year, with or without DR.
