The Carolina Panthers reached a four-year, $4.3 million agreement with second-round choice Everette Brown, according to a source.

Brown will receive $2.6875 million in guarantees, the source said. Brown's deal leaves the Panthers with two unsigned draft choices among his seven.

Brown, 21, was the 43rd pick in the 2009 draft, but he came to the team in exchange for a 2010 first-round pick the Panthers gave to the San Francisco 49ers. The 6-foot-2, 256-pound Brown was brought in to develop as a pass rusher.

A native of Stantonburg, N.C., he was first-team All-ACC at Florida State

Brown or Barwin....hmmm.....that's a really good question.

I honestly couldn't believe he fell so far either. There was a lot of hype about him and it seemed to peak a month too soon or so and he started to drop. I thought he would be end of the first/early second but he made it a solid 10 picks into the 2nd...

I dunno, would the Texans have taken him instead of Barwin had they both been on the Board for our second-round pick ?

i definitely think so anyway. he def seems to be a much better pass rusher than barwin who i dont think will be much of a factor for us this year based on the limited tape ive seen of him on youtube

v oklahoma (working against loadholt mostly)

v louisville (working against ??)

small flashes but neither are confidence inspiring. loadholt especially seemed to keep him in check pretty easily. connor had no moves to get past him & he tackles like a former TE sometimes (and got destroyed in the run game a couple times). he did beat the G twice (once with a nice bullrush near the end that knocks the G on his ass) & a rb once but thats not what we need

I only looked at the one vs OK and Barwin couldn't shed a block to save his life and was manhandled when a lineman got his mitts on him. This wasn't very encouraging but at least Barwin was equally awful vs the run as he was the pass.

yep. anytime loadholt (a decent tackle but only average in nfl terms) touched him, the play was over. this was the first time i ever looked at barwin to any degree as i thought of him as a 3-4 prospect before the draft. i was encouraged by his stats and his combine but after seeing that yesterday, im pretty pessimistic about the prospect of him helping the pass rush anytime soon. ST's all the way this year imo

2 things about Barwins adventures vs Loadholt: it was only his second or third
start as a DE. On the other hand, Loadholt is not considered much of a pass-blocker so he'll be moved to RT in the NFL, which of course means Barwin may really struggle against highly-competant OTs.
I dunno, but I very much like the idea of the pick, the idea of the Texans using their second-rounder on a player who has no chance of starting his rookie year and will only be used as a specialists.
Establishing another pass-rushing threat besides Mario is just that important for the whole defense to succeed. Now whether or not the Texans drafted a guy who can do that, we'll just have to rely on them and wait and see if he's the guy ?
