show is starting to talk about the lack of change on the offensive side of the ball. Stated at the end of the season defense was not the problem. Also commented on the fact that DC is getting the s.... kicked out of him. Its amazing how one sided Capers is and its like its no big deal. I continue to say that's what he's comfortible with and sees nothing else. I notice others on this web site are beginning to see the problem. I truely hope I'm wrong. Again I hope we get some help out of our rookie linemen, because I don't think its going to come from the verterns. I know for people like Vinny that's a real reach, but it certainly doesn't seem like we are picking up any quality FA's. Oh, well, I know it's the same old thing, but it's the same old problem not being solved.

What are you talking about? Let's see what FA lineman are not getting? Capers and Casserly have done everything that they promised us. We are getting better each year.

If we had won the last game of the year against Cleveland, the tone of this discussion, and others like it, would be quite different right now.

This is really the slow time of year. There is not much news, and I can only imagine that the football "experts" are really reaching to fill their columns and broadcasts. It can be the same anytime you are waiting, but still under some pressure to perform, such as being unemployed for a while. Sometimes, you begin to make mountains out of the proverbial molehills, or even create imaginary problems that exist only in your own head. These are really just diversions for your mind, because you cannot stand to sit still, be patient and wait, even though sometimes that is the answer.

Hmmm...interesting that this is the only year that Texans have NOT made major changes along the offensive line...seems to me they are trying something different instead of bringing in overpaid spare parts.

I did hear that we are trying a different scheme to help wand out and if it doesnt i think Riley might be starting. Depending on how we do this year i think we might be able to end up with a top of the line OT in next years draft. I know that Capers doesnt like to draft the o-line in the 1st round because he feels he can get capable talent in the 2nd or 3rd round.

persoanlly i feel the D will be better but not until mid way through the season, and the o=line shold be improved since they have had a whole season to play together. But if they are not than something is definately wrong !

We have the same scheme, we will just use different protections.

That's really not true. If it is, show me where he makes such a statement. Caper's isn't in charge of our drafts anyway.

Again, a few post that the O-line will be OK, but there are a lot of posters who differ with that proposition. McNair made the promise after the Browns game and I would hope he knows what he's talking about. Anyway, it is the biggest single issue for me with respect to the Texans. It's the one thing really holding back the offensive unit. Some say Carr doesn't make the reads he should. I would make a case for he has never had an opportunity to be comfortible enough to learn. Its hard to scan the field on your back or while running for your life. In fact you could argue we have not made much of a move with either line which is puzzling when they are the base for everything else going on the field.

What are you talking about? This club has been in existence for ONLY 3 YEARS, it takes time to build a team. I can assure you that CC and DC know what they're doing, I've confidence that they will build a good running team and a good defensive team, that's what they have been talking about from day one.

Schemes is what i meant by the protections to help wand protect carr. I expect us to do something like how NE stopped Indy in the playoffs. I remember some one from the Texans saying we can find quality players in the OL position in the 3rd-4th round and we dont have to go for a 1st rounder... it was the year Wand was picked i heard a member of the Texans staff i dont remember if it was capers or casserly but i heard one of them say it on tv... it was inbetween the draft and the start of camp

If one is rated high enough we will. No way we take Jordan Gross over Andre Johnson, or Bryant McKinney over Carr, or Shawn Andrews over Dunta Robinson looking back at our early drafts.

just MO concerning the o-line:

haven't we made signifigant changes every year we've been a franchise? haven't we (the fans) called for just about everyone's head remotely responsible for the line's perfomance every year? isn't this the first year we've left things alone (to overuse a phrase) "to gel" ? maybe change, or more importantly in this case lack thereof, is the most beneficial direction we can take right now

well the way i look at it we tried to bring in orlando pace but the price was too high...so now look at what other FA's were out there at the LT position...hmmm...not hearing a name that would be better than wand...i see jennings who was grossly overpaid by the 49ers...besides him who else is there...no one...so we look at the draft and i think by the time april 23rd came we were all pretty much in agreement that tackle from florida state wasn't up to par...then you look at what's coming in 2006...three to four possible franchise LT's next year...maybe more...i think we all pretty much know where our 1st rounder is heading next year IF wand has trouble again this year...personally i would have liked to have grabbed a guard in this years draft but with morency and mathis i have no complaints...just be patient...ferguson, scott, mcneil, youngblood, and whitworth will all becoming out and if winston is healthy that's another one...so be patient let's see how this season turns out

There were a ton of people claiming that the Texans would not draft a DLman in 1st round because of the 3-4. I spent 3 years arguing against that point and guess I will need to change that to OLmen.

In theory, you can "find" good players throughout the draft, but it does not mean an organization passes on a superior player at a position in the first round trying to get lucky in the middle round scrapheap.

as of right now depending on where we draft i think we will take 1 of those outstand OT. If Wand has a good season or we find we have a more pressing need (doubt it) then maybe we go a different position. I am happy we are staying with Wand 1 more year to give him a chance with some experience. He is a pro. he knows what he needs to improve on and i sure he has spent alot of time in the film room looking at the ends and i believe he will have a good year and be very much improved.
