Farve or McNair?

This has been long disscussed but I wanted your views. Who is the toughest qb? I personally think Farve is but lets hear what you think.

Farve, over 185 consecutive starts.
McNair, has only played about 110 games. When Steve gets a chance to play as many as Farve then we can comment again.

I concurr DC...Favre has the Ironman award in my book. The streak is fantastic for any NFL player, but for a QB in today's league...WOW.

Yea, the streak is impressive. However, Manning has got a pretty good streak also, and I don't consider him tough. Between Favre and McNair, I say McNair. He just seems to have more recurring injuries that he plays through.

Why is it that most players with records like McNair's are injury prone, but he is tough? Yes McNair plays through a lot of injuries but it often does effect his performance. Seems to me he is both tough and injury prone.

That is a very tough question.

I would agree that McNair is injury prone. Isn't he always hurting his ankle and leg? I don't know if it's the same injury over and over. You know sometimes those need time to heal and of course with a game every weekend that's just not enough time.

With Favre I think it's his thumb over and over.

On the surface and off the tip of my tongue I'd say Favre because of the games played consequently.

But there is a mighty good argument for both.

Good question.

I think we all agree that they are both tough competitors, but I think the edge still goes to Brett at the end of the day...he's got the Super Bowl ring.

Of course I'm going to say McNair (of course my opinion is a little biased). IMO, I don't think a player is gonna pay the style of ball that McNair plays and not be a little more prone to injuries. He is tough in any number of different ways. Not just the fact that he continues to play when hurt (and at times when he could hardly even walk) but just in the way that he plays when he's on the field, healthy or otherwise. I don't know that I have ever seen Favre shake a defender off like a limp dish rag the way that McNair can.

For kicks lets compare though. According to SI.com's injury lists for each player (since 2001)...

Now when you take into consideration the number of games that Steve McNair played when he was QUESTIONABLE vs. the number of games that Brett Favre played when he was PROBABLE... even on paper it should be obvious which one is tougher.

As I'm biased toward the AFC I'll go with McNair, didn't he play a couple seasons with a broken bone in his foot? Both have taken a beating during thier careers especially on those years that they were almost the only offensive weapon their team possessed. I just wonder how many seasons McNair has left in him. With all the turnover in Tenn. I'll be suprised if they have too good of a season.

I'll go with Farve too. Toughness is more than merely physical toughness. Its mental toughness as well, and after that Monday night game this past year I can't think of anyone tougher in the NFL.

On a side note: Where's the love for Donovan McNabb? The man played an entire game on a broken leg, and led his team to victory. Granted, it was against the Cardinals, but an NFL team nonetheless. That at least deserves an honorable mention.

I agree that he does deserve honorable mention for that game because, if I recall, he threw 4 TDs that game and I think all were after he hurt himself...
