Talking to a Texan official the other day, the Texans are extremely high on his abilities, the way the rest of the league is and some of the fans are not! He stated, the issue with Buchanon was under-achievement due to many coaches since entering the NFL, team discipline, and lack of team leadership. We were just one of many teams that went calling after his services, that will easily be worth a second & third rounder. Think about how many seconds or thirds really pan out.......35-65. At least this guy is somewhat of a veteran, will be a featured starter, has someone in town he is comfortable with, AJ, and can really get his swagger on, with D-Rob on the other side! Word has it, if AJ was not here, signing him would have been tough, but AJ loves the city and we love him back. So show your love to the newest member of the dynamic duo! P-Buc(Batman) and D-Rob(Robin) :highfive:

I'd say that Buchanon should be the Boy Wonder, simply because he's newer and acts more childishly.

wait, this isn't the same "official" JVG talked to is it? Oh, never mind - you noted Texans official.

Should be an interesting season to watch with the moves made.... well, it'll be an interesting season reagardless - I'm fiending for my football fix already.

he gets smoked as much as he makes big plays. maybe more. i think that he has given up more t.d.'s than he has picks. he has won us games and lost us twice as many. he has not reached his full potential. the thing is, he may never. he is one of the mensa group, that got a 7 or a 9 on the wunderlich. i cant remember off hand. one of the two.

he does better in man, against shorter w.r.'s. he is lost in zone. it just doesnt sink in. he gambles waaaaay too much and ends up getting burnt by guys like cory schlessinger. very selfish play. the bottom line is this guy cant be trusted as your last line of defense on any given play. i DO think he would make a bad azz nickleback. a helper...his tackling is pathetic.
the less responsibilities this guy has, the better off he will be. i say let him gamble.....at nickleback. this is how to get the best return on your investment imo....

he is the epitomy of self promotion. he rolled up to his first training camp in a limo, with playboy pajama's on and a mr. t starter kit. all this after having never proved anything at the nfl level. :dangit:

he only refers to himself in the 3rd person. showtime.

i read a coupla weeks ago that he wants to legally change his name to "showtime".

he did go to the s.b. with us....BUT he was constantly kept an eye on by r. woodson. we dont have that leadership back there anymore.

now then, who has a dark and gloomy take on, foreman? LOL

i saw that he had back to back seasons with over a 100 tackles before he got injured last season. what is the injury? is it just not healed? those tackle numbers sure dont look too bad to me. i know he has a hole. what is it? LOL!!!

i want all the bad if you got it. i want to know what we are getting into with him. thanks....

You won't find many Texans fans too upset about Foreman being released. His tackle numbers do look impressive until you factor in that he played ILB for a 3-4 team where the ILB's purpose is to have tons of tackles. Also you don't see where he made those tackles, and more often than not he'd be making the tackle 5 yards after the line of scrimmage. IMO Foreman's biggest weakness is coverage. If he is used as a starter he'll be burned on a regular basis. He's a good guy, and he's definately a quality character guy. The problem is he isn't starter material, but he is a decent backup. If he'll only be filling in for injured players from time to time or just going in for a few plays a game then he'll work out fine for the Raiders. At the very least he'll be a good role model for the younger players.

we have some l.b.'s that look good at times but they are always injured. sam williams and travian smith always seem to be getting dinged up. i think he will fit in great.

he seems very average to me. he also seems like he has a great attitude and field smarts. wasnt he the primary play caller for you guys?

we desperately need leadership on our defense. parrella, romo and r. woodson are gone. i think foreman can help us out big time.

Foreman is like a bull rider. He hits a ball carrier (bull) and gets taken for an extra 5 yards after that. He gets a ton of tackles but they are usually yards after the LOS. If you plan on him going into coverage, just expect the pass to be completed.

The guy was solid for an expansion team, but he really is more of backup material IMO.

You must be high then to be high on P-Buc. Almost every Raider fan I talk to seems to feel pretty much the same way.

So, you're gonna believe a fan that dresses all SPOOOOOKY on Sunday's or your GM and head coach?

i think P-B's problem was your coaching staff. Hoke IMO is a very good secondary caoch and i have alot of faith in him. if P-B is as bad as u say he is im willin to bet hoke will straighten him out and teach him when to take risks and when to not. i think comin to the texans will really be the begenning of his career.

one of our staffs better qualities is that they can actually develop players nowadays.imo

danny clark had his best season last year.
ronald curry came out of nowhere for 59 catches...
scwheigart seemed to steadily get better.
asomougha is developing into a decent back. he hit's like a truck too.
courtney andersen came out of nowhere his rookie season to knock off jolley for the starter.
porter is turning into a stud. i am sure you all saw him roasting bailey in the denver game. gruden and cally relied way too heavily on vets and were not developers of talent. i am sure you all remember the "oldest team" comments from the press. we are young now.

teyo johnson was running his mouth last year and one play he acted like he was humping a player in the face. norv benched his azz. wouldnt even let him dress out.raymond chester pulled him to the side and started working with his game and more importantly on his tude.

tommy kelly was looking good and coming along nicely.

these were for the most part, youngsters.

the flip side is buchanon didnt work out for us and neither did napoleon harris, who was unseated by a career backup(danny jackson). nap was actually riding the pine alot last year.

callahan lost control of that team and i am seeing norv do some things to get it back. like running people out of town like "showtime" and napoleon harris" i am gonna be better than ray lewis".

he has also weeded out people like brown and rice who were hindering the development of our other w.r.'s like curry.

brown and rice were becoming distractions, big time.

we made the right move with those 2. they didnt do squat for their respective teams last year.

i remember tim lobbying al to hire bugel and white, and then he promptly turns around and stabs them in the back when they left.

our team may be viewed upon as dysfunctional, but that's the way it's always been and it been good enough for 3s.b. wins and 2 more where we lost. it's nothing new.

the team was MORE dysfunctional when we went to the s.b. than it is now, by a long shot.

like i said, put him at nickle. let him gamble and make big plays. lower risk/high rewards.

of course i am gonna have a different take on the raiders. i have been watching them for a very long time.

of course a raider fan is gonna talk a lot of stuff about PB after he is gone, PB didnt want to be there, and the fans were giving him a bad time about it when the news was leaked. PB is still raw, but has the talent. He didnt get quality coaching in Oakland, theres nothing quality about oakland period, except the Warriors. they bring in other teams trash..*jerry rice* now randy moss... its good that we got PB young, so that he can still change some of the aspects of him game, and still be productive for a few years to come

PB has to be a starter, Faggins is our nickle and is a very solid nickelback.... how can you bring in Randy Moss and Lamont Jordan, and have Warren Sapp and Woodson... and not be more dysfunctional

No not really, people wanted him gone 2 seasons ago, we where happy that he wanted to be traded... i mean the guy gave up the game winning TD the week before and then he wants out... blah blah blah stop this nonsense about coaching, he doesnt work out, he doesnt try to look at film, he refuses to take anyone else advice... expect if it is from Deon Sanders, He has a ****ty attitude, which is the reason he is playing for a mere 800,000.

So when PB is a FA after the 2006 season, he will be a restricted FA and not unrestricted ? That way we need to just match the best offer to keep him, or cut him loose if we're not happy with him.

one team's trash is another team's treasure. there's countless examples around the league of players makiing a move to another team and having great seasons and even careers. i think its easy for fans to say that a CB got beat or burned when in fact he may have been expecting help from a Safety. and another thing, i don't care how good of a CB you are, you can't chase a WR around for extended periods of time and shut him down if the Dline isn't getting any pressure on the QB. as for Patrick Buchanon, let's just wait and see how the season goes. if we would have had charger fans in here last season talking about steve foley like buchanon, all of us texan fans would be saying the same things as the raider fans are now.

hey raidergracy i was talkin bout the whole staff i was saying the secondary coaches. i dont feel the raiders secondary coaches are all that great at their job IMO. yea sure u have woodson but hes been playin in the leauge so long.

P-Buc will shine in H-Town. Believe that.

It was a good move for the Texans regardless of whether he works out or not. They are paying him like a second day draft pick for the next two years. If he only plays in the dime and contributes on special teams then we are getting value for him. And, if they are able to turn his immense talent into a good player, then we got a steal.

With Buchanon we should have more flexibility as far as blitzing, I don't remember if Glen blitzed much or not but I'm sure Buchanon has more speed and we can send on corner blitzes with either one of our corners.

p-buch will handle his. what most people don't understand is that cb's have to have a swagger to them. some take it over the top, the good ones can control it and pull it out when they need it. he needs help controling his swagger.

so what he got beat quite a bit. the kid is young. he'll learn in our system. he'll see that if he plays in our system uses his ability he will be able to have 5+ picks like d-rob. plus the guy is a very good return man. we will get our money's worth. then we can re-up his contract for a medium length...over time i can seriously see d-rob and p-buc being the second coming of the eagles dynamic duo....bobby taylor and troy vincent.

its not non sense about the coaching, i watch every game... their coaching is garbage, i can pick up the paper everyday and read some garbage about the raiders.. he has no problem coming here, and has been positive about everything, he got put into a situation in oakland, and he wanted out, woodson wanted out two or it might have been 3 years ago, and you the raiders tagged him to keep him. the coaching in oakland cant control anyone, there are way to many different personalities, and to many "me" players... thats what the raiders are known for.... everyone was saying last year that turner was getting walked all over... if a coach isnt demanding respect then the players the raiders have will never listen... now that PB is on a good team, will good influences around him, that are close to him, like AJ, and coaches that will demand stuff from him, CBs coach Hoke... he will be in the right environment to thrive in

he was only here cuz we needed vets to lead the team while we built our actual base, now that we have the pieces in place, we can move on without him

It will be interesting to see how Fabian Washington does in a defense that can't get a rush. One benefit of having less to look forward to in the recent draft is watching the Raiders' defense on late Sunday afternoon. It seems they could of actually regressed. It looks like they pulled a K.C. by keeping the same players that got torched the year before except now they won't have P.B. or Harris. I may have forgotten something but I can't recall any big acquisitions for their defense. Their offense will be even more interesting it's just going to take 40 pts/gm to go .500. As for PB if he can become more responsible in his coverage he has all the making of a quality CB. You just can't judge a guy when the opposing QB had all day to throw. Hopefully he didn't just walk into a similar situation.

No, RFA status is reserved for players without a contract with less than four accrued seasons in the NFL. PB signed a five year contract as a rookie so he will go straight to UFA when his contract is up. Look for the Texans to play him under his current contract in 2005 and if he performs to their hopes, sign him to a new contract prior to the end of the 2006 season.

I like how you Raider fans supposedly want Phillip gone, and then when he leaves, you go to that teams forum and talk smack about how he is horrible. We get it. You think he is a peice of trash. Lets move on shall we?

Fair enough. But I believe we are all just going to have to wait till pre-season or season start to see if he can play in the Texans scheme.

true on that, glenn gave up som plays last year, everytime i see a minnesota highlight, i see glenn stumbling and letting some receiver score

Yeah, the Raiders wanted Buchanon to leave, so they could bring in Moss. Let one bad attitude go for the second worst attitude in the NFL. I'm sure that the fine people of Oakland will be so glad to see Moss driving around town using police officers for hood ornaments, and ashing his blunt out the window like it's a cigarette.

Be honest with ya'll i'm hoping pb's new surrounding, fresh start, and a old running mate and fellow The U. AJ, and our tight rope staff will give him the foundation they gave dunta last year.

His athletic skills are there we all knwo that. Redskins considered trading the #9 pick for him from what i heard rumored before the draft so he was definitely wanted.

Let's just hope we have enough to get him mentally where he needs to be.

I think this is reasonable, you would be surprised what a group of stable minded individuals can do for a player. But I also hope that some of that attitude on the feild will rub off on our defence, we kind of need some swager and confidence on the feild. Heck I wish we had a big nasty mean O-Linemen, the kind that gets into the other O-Linemen when they make repeated mistakes, and he himself makes verry few mistakes. I guess what I'm saying is, we NEED some Ray Lewis types on this team, without the off the feild problems.

He was very good his first year but regressed badly the last 2.

All he needs is some discipline coaching. The problem is the Texans gave up 2 picks & probably could have gotten somebody as good as Buchannon in the draft with one of those picks.

The Raiders don't care about attitude if a guy produces.

Moss has produced every year of his career & Buchannon hasn't.

The last 2 years he's been a shade above terrible.

I think he can resurrect his career but I certainly wouldn't have given a 2nd & 3rd round pick for him.

I'll take Phillip Buchanan.

that is until his gambling cost you first down's & TD's in a critical part of the game.

Several of the Raider's fans have come here and let us know that PB hasn't played well. I got that. I think you would be hard pressed to find many people that don't think he has the physical tools to be a good to great CB. I think the difference is that the Raiders view him as a lost cause, and the Texans think they can fix the mental aspects of his game.

There is no doubt in my mind that he has been lit up like a Christmas tree over the past 2-3 years. I just don't expect that to be the norm for us. Call it confidence/arrogance or whatever, but I think PB will get the coaching he didn't in Oakland.

I hope that is the case and he has a lot to prove. But I am just wondering, didn't Woodson get the same coaching?

SESupergenius said:

The key difference is that Woodson got his early year training under a different set of coaches. PB had the misfortune of coming in with Callahan's staff then Turner's. I wouldn't confuse either of those guys with John Gruden and his staff. Also, Woodson is an elite (top 5) CB. The chances of PB elevating his production to that level are slim to none.

SESupergenius said:

That is not really a fair comparison as PB entered the league under turmoil, coaching changes, the Super Bowl hangover etc, while Woodson entered at the same time as Jon Gruden and was his top pick in 1998 (4th overall), the Heisman Trophy winner and he also was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1998 following his first NFL campaign.

So I guess the answer is "no" he did not receive the same coaching, especially not like the coaching and attention he will receive from the Texans Secondary Coach Hoke.

Looking at the Raiders, they obviously feel the need to replace PB and the aging Woodson after looking at their draft the past few years.

2005, 1. Fabian Washington, CB, Nebraska 2. Stanford Routt, CB, Houston
2003, 1A. Nnamdi Asomugha, CB, California

I really don't know that much about PB other than he has all the physical tools necessary and Andre Johnson says he is a good cover guy. I hope he turns into a stud but we will have to wait and see.

TheOgre said:

his tackling technique can be improved upon as well as his conditioning, probably can't really change his style but you can get him to play in a system that compliments his talent & teammates. he has recovery speed superior to that of Woodson & his athletic ability is untapped. given the right situation (Texans) with a change in attitiude & commitment to winning, there is no reason why Phillip Buchanon cannot become just as dominant as any other CB in the league. I would not rule out top 5 status nor would I rule out the possibility the Texans have two of the top 5 CB's & THE VERY BEST DUO IN CB'S IN THE LEAGUE :highfive:

I guess it is possible, beerlover, but it is also in the realm of possibilities that PB will be on a lot of ESPN highlights...for the other team.
