Warren Moon throwing games?

I was intrigued by this post in the 'Steve McNair dead' thread last week. I wanted to follow up, but I didn't want to hijack that thread any more than it already was.

But since I followed Warren Moon from his college days at Washington until he retired, including the deal about abusing his wife, etc, I never, during that whole time, never once read or heard anything, not even a whisper, that he was involved in throwing games.

Now, when Kenny Stabler was here, I heard those rumors/accusations or whatever that he might have thrown games, but I never heard a peep about Warren Moon. I've even done Google searches (although not very deeply) and still can't come up with anything.

(Now, I gotta admit, it would actually have been an easier pill to swallow, if it came out that he did intentionally throw that game in Buffalo. It would have made better sense.)

I seriously doubt that's true....he built a thirty something point lead in that game, if anybody threw it....it was the defense.

Warren Moon didn't throw games, because if he did it would've came out by now. It's almost impossible to keep that under wraps....especially when a HOFer is throwing games.

I've never heard about Moon throwing games, either. It has been mentioned in this forum, but outside of that, it's never been something I have seen or read about anywhere.

As far as the 35-3 game, he threw a perfect first half. It's not his fault that that defense couldn't protect a 33 point lead or he was in an offense that could not control the clock.

I saw this thread and was ready to blurt out 527 yards against KC. :gun:

Yeah DB, there were several contributing causes for that meltdown. Blown assignments, missed call, etc...

Sounds like someone who's still trying to rationalize what happened in that game. For someone in disbelief over what happened that sad day, believing in that rumor sounds just as viable of an explanation as what actually did happen.

I'm glad someone started this thread, because I haven't forgotten seeing that either.

I'm extremely interested to hear more about it. I've always been a fan, but nothing surprises me since the incident with his wife.

II never heard about that one either, but I was about 7 years old back then. Definitely not surprised to hear that. A guy named "Snake" is capable of anything.

Oh man, do I remember that game. He had such a wonderful chance to break that record, and he could have done it without appearing like he was running it up.

And just to clarify something. In no way in hell am I suggesting that he actually threw that game in Buffalo. I'm just saying, hypothetically, that if he did, that loss would have been easier to take. That game taught me to never again get that excited about any football game.

I woudn't be suprised if Moon through games because he has the morals of a dog.

I wonder if Rosencopter threw the Indy game.

No doubt about it. I always keep entertainment in perspective because of that game, and even when leaving the stadium after tough losses, I've always reminded myself that they lost and we watched.

Chet Copic once had a radio show where the same allegations were slung at Neil O'Donnell.

According to the show, Neil's college roommate came from a mob affiliated family. They played a taped phone conversation between 2 wiseguys claiming "We've got him in our pocket. He roomed w/such&such's kid...he's ours"

Supposedly, that conversation took place prior to the Steelers V Cowboys SuperBowl that made CB Larry Brown a millionaire.

Well, people can question Moon's morals (wife beater?) and whatnot, but if he threw games, I have to say he sucked at it. You don't throw games as a QB by throwing for 300+ yards and multiple TDs. That's what you'd call a really crappy job of throwing a game.

In fact, I don't really recall a single playoff game where didn't acquit himself very well. I seem to recall there may have been one or two in the last '80s when the team was just starting to make the playoffs where he may have had just OK numbers, but all the really key playoff games I recall, he had 300+ yards, good completion percentages, and TDs. Is there someplace that shows a playoff game log?

LOL. So freaking true.

Nothing's over until it's over. In fact, large leads are NOT to be trusted.

Comments? This thread is ridiculous. Give me a break. Before the self-appointed board police come I'll say Yes, I came, I saw, I commented on the ridiculous.

Sorry Marcus, but why start a thread about a theory you don't buy, yet point the finger elsewhere while you are at it? Why not: "Stabler threw games!"

Naa, the Enquirer has left the building.

Here you go: Warren Moon playoff gamelogs

I didn't realize that he threw at least one INT in every playoff game except one.
dude was a huge chokejob just waiting to happen. one good hit and he would go into the proverbial tank.

he put up numbers but half would be in meaningless situations (end of half, end of decided games, never when it counted)

he had the glamorous 1st Half in the 35-3 game, but where was he in the 2nd Half? fumbling, throwing picks, going 3 and out, and throwing a pick over the middle on our side of the field that won the game for the Bills in OT.

warren moon? don't get me started....

Then, don't start, "dude". If you want to run off on a tangent, or worse, hijack the thread for that matter, and start ranting about how good, or bad a player he was . . . go create your own thread. That's not what this thread is about.

I don't know if he "threw" games (and I have my doubts), I do know that he wasn't much of leader. I've heard Haywood Jefries say things that lead me to beleive that. I've heard comments from Bruce (see McLames 10 part interview) and it was often apparent on the sidelines and after TD's.

Who's pointing fingers? All I said was that unlike Moon, I had "heard" rumors that Stabler was throwing games. And remember that I said that I couldn't even find anything in a Google Search regarding Moon in that regard, guess what pops up at the top when you type "Stabler threw games"

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/141213-hall-of-shame-ken-stabler

And like I said in the beginning of the thread, I'm just wondering where someone even got the idea that Moon was throwing games other than what has been said on this message board.

I saw this in the Steve McNair thread also and I have to say I had never heard of Moon throwing a game. I don't believe it and like others have said you don't throw for 300+ yards and multiple tds if you want to throw a game.

And the Buffalo game would never have happened if there would have been instant replay. Of course a tight end and an adjustment on defense in the second half would have helped also. I watched that game with my son and I remember telling him when it was 35-3 not to get too excited yet. The Oilers are known for choking. Still couldn't believe they lost
