Jeremy Jarmon-supplemental draft on July 16

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon only wanted to lose a few pounds. Instead, he lost his final season of eligibility.

He wanted to set an example. Instead, he feels as if he has been made one.

That's why Jarmon, suspended by the NCAA after a failed drug test in the spring, is working hard at the D-1 Training Center in this Nashville suburb in preparation for the NFL supplemental draft on July 16. Jarmon, Florida State wide receiver Corey Surrency and Central Michigan offensive lineman Joe McMahon are hoping to be selected.

Jarmon is focusing on strengthening his hips and adding an explosive quality to his pass rush by executing set after set of lunges while carrying 265 pounds of weights.

"I think when I show up on July 9 in Lexington [for a pro day workout], I will show them exactly what they're looking for," Jarmon said. "I definitely feel I have a lot to offer. I can play in a 4-3 or outside linebacker in a 3-4. I've worked hard and my [game] films speak for themselves."

Jarmon was an All-SEC selection in 2007, when he was fourth in the league with nine sacks. He had a sore shoulder last season and managed just 4.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss, but he still was a key figure on a defense that also included cornerback Trevard Lindley, linebacker Micah Johnson and tackle Corey Peters in its nucleus.

Jarmon said he was so excited about the possibilities for the 2009 season that he wanted to set an example for his younger teammates. He planned to cut about 8 pounds from his 6-foot-3, 286-pound frame.

Think I'd rather hold our picks for the next draft & see what is there. We might not be in the market for a DE or LB at end of this season.

A third player has officially submitted paperwork to enter the 2009 NFL Supplemental Draft. Central Michigan offensive tackle Joe McMahon joins Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon and Florida State wide receiver Corey Surrency as eligible prospects in the silent-auction set to take place on July 16th.

The 6’3, 300-pound McMahon has starting experience at both guard and center. The NFL Draft Bible projects him as a sixth or seventh round bid. The Sports Studies major was forced to leave school due to academic reasons.

Earlier in the day, Jarmon visited with the Philadelphia Eagles. It is unknown if he worked out for the team. In January, the NFL Draft Advisory Board told Jarmon he had a third-to-fifth round grade.

Surrency is unlikely to be selected due to character concerns, which would make him free to sign with any NFL team.

Check back for more updates leading up to the draft as we plan to profile the final player pool available. The deadline to enter is July 6th.

haven't a clue on any of the guys and if they would be worth a shot in late rounds

Every time I see these "fine dining" supplemental draft "menus," I have to slap myself and remind myself of the nausea, vomitting and diarrhea I developed watching Milford Brown (6th round) and Tony Hollings (2nd round).

The pick used on Hollings (the Raiders 2004 3nd rounder) would have been the 33rd pick in the draft, and could have been used on Karlos Dansby (taken @ #33) or Chris Snee (#34).

Jarmon is a SEC DE with credentials. His drug test should be a concern, but otherwise had the look of a 2nd round pick. I wouldn't blame a team with a need at RDE for rolling the dice on Jarmon.

It was the Redskins not the raiders. I think its a good fit for both sides, a little higher than I would have thought but I'm happy for Jarmon. He's a good kid.
