Good to see everyone getting away from the old' Astroturf.

Rams' stadium to get new playing surface

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Rams, who have long complained about the rock-hard consistency of their artificial playing surface, are getting a new field next season.

A news conference has been scheduled Tuesday to announce the new playing surface for the Edward Jones Dome.

The Rams' lease with the city, St. Louis County and Convention and Visitors Commission requires that the stadium turf be in the top eight of NFL stadiums by July 2005. The stadium will have FieldTurf, which has become the standard for artificial fields in the NFL and has been likened to playing on natural grass.

The Rams have played on the same carpet-over-concrete field since the dome opened in 1995. The past few seasons, their indoor practice facility has been equipped with FieldTurf, and coach Mike Martz complained a handful of times about the unforgiving nature of the surface at the stadium.

The Convention and Visitors Commission initially had resisted the change because it would hinder the dome's ability to hold conventions and trade shows.

actually, INDY is going to field turf also. They are supposed to have it in place before the season. So I don't think ANY team is left with Astroturf anymore.

which brings up the question, who will now have the worst field in the NFL?

I dunno who will have the worst.... But I heard that Pittsburgh is installing a new field that is part artificial part natural grass...seems like a good idea so in muddy weather the field doesnt get completely torn up

yeah, I hate it when football players get their uni's muddy during the game. Makes it so hard to see the numbers. (sarcasm)

I am actually waiting for some northern team to figure out a way to have a heated field. I can see that in the future. Chicago, Green Bay, and the Patriots come to mind as needing do something NOW and get rid of all those Zamboni machines that scrape the snow off the Line markers during the game. :highfive:
