Defense

I'll go with 23rd overall, as all of you should. This was our rank last season. How would any of you know how the players on defense we have now would play if we haven't even seen ONE game?

God... I HATE the offseason. :brickwall

Geez....I'm going way out on a limb here....I'm gonna say we end the season with the #11 D in the league. It's gonna be some high-speed chaos out there, but with a bunch of hungry guys flying around, some big hits and turnovers are gonna abound. I'm also feeling a bit better about PB. I think he'll settle down and play to his potential in a steadier environment(and after the kick in the butt his change of environment entailed). With an improved pash rush and a pretty dang good secondary, it's gonna be a blast watching this team. I see the first half of the season being somewhat iffy and a learning peroid. After that, it's gonna be mayhem for the oppossing O's. :howdy:

We ended up 16th in scoring defense last season.
And moving up 5 spots in that category is as good or better than moving up 5 spots in next years draft!!!!!

9th because Capers is making all these offseason moves to get more speed on the defensive side so he can do his claim to fame: The Zone Blitz.

I can live with that. And the Mavs ate the Rockets up with dribble penetration. Yao needs a mean streak.

Many Texans players are young on the defense. With veteran leadership dwindling on the defense I project them to be around 22 after the first 3 games. They should be really solid by 12 games. If the Texans are close a playoff spot with the last 4 games to go, then they might get a wil card spot. There is a lot of growing ahead before that point. Hopefully the inexperience does not cost the team too much.

BTW I wish you luck with Moss on your team MXR. He can be amazing or amusing depending on the situation.

Moss can be both ALL the time, depending on YOUR sense of "taste".
lol:

I think that the defense will end up around 19th, most of the pieces are in place but more experience is needed.

Ha Ha Ha, keep tying to convince yourself FBT. I know yall would like to believe our defense has taken a step back since we droped a big name such as "sharper", which all last year thats all he was, a name, but the fact that, that move allows us to put Peek on the field and take foreman off and add a speed lb such as greenwood and move wong inside which is his natural position. We are not only going to be much more improved in that area, but we are going to be able to do something which we haven't been able to do the last 2 years and that is RUSH the passer, which will force lefty into many bad throws. Second yall would also like to believe that we made a mistake in accuiring P. Buch., but the fact is, his old coach is not only on our team, but one of the finest position coaches in football and if anyone knows what he (P. Buch.) can do or get him to reach his potential its him. P. Buch. will be protected by our new pass rush as well the rest of our secondary and he will bring big playmaking ability to our defense. Lastly, This time when one of our old or injury prone vets goes down on the DL we won't be bringing in some scrub, but rated by many as the top DT in the country comming out of the draft. Yall took one of the hugest gambles in the daft this year and yall better PRAY to god he works our or yall are in some serious doo doo. I have felt this way for awhile and I think we'll be just out of the brink of the top ten, probably ranked #11 or better.

I think too many people put an emphasis on having new players in the system being our weakness. Dont forget that our best defensive year came in 2002 when we had new people at EVERY position. Capers had his best years in Carolina at the beggining with NEW players on defense.

I cant wait to see what Capers does with all this speed.

The defense is going to be a lot better than most of the people posting these days think. They're going to better than the 2002 defense. Much better.

i think our defense will be vastly better then our defense last year, especially since last year, we had one of the hardest schedules a defense could face... Offensive Rank: #1 Kansas City, #2 Indy(twice), #3 Green Bay, #4 Minnesota, #5 Denver, #10 San Diego, #11 Tennessee(twice), #12 New York Jets, #16 Pittsburg, #17 Oakland, #21 Jacksonville(twice), #24 Detroit, #28 Cleveland, #32 Chicago... i think that it is one of the toughest schedules i have seen a defense have to go through. so i wouldnt be suprised at a vast improvement in D, simply cuz we are not playing as many great offensive teams this year

Thank you I have said and posted the same exact thing in the other thread. "The last time we put a whole bunch of new players together on defense we had our best year defensively". Thats exactly why I'm not buying "its going to take time to gel" excuse. Continuity has more to do with the offensive side of the ball not the defensive side.

If we were to rank 24th overall or higher after next season ends...

Keep in mind that the thread question doesn't ask what you think our defense will be ranked at season's end (which I think will be in the 13th-17th range), but how it is CURRENTLY ranked, which is just about impossible to determine.

like i have already said, we played some of the best offenses in the league last year, including the all the top 5, so i see a big increase i say to the 12-17 range

I think really it all depends on how we step up. Are our young guys gonna be able to handle the reins or were they merely doing good because veterans were there to make up for their mistakes?

I look at how the Jets made a big improvement by acquiring younger, faster guys for their defense as the Texans did this off-season and I think the Texans will do a heck of a lot better now on defense. Just look at how much the Jets improved from the '03 season to the '04 season. Speed was the factor, I think it'll work similarly in our case. I'm liking it!

The Jets run a 4-3.
