State investigating arrest of Cowboy stadium general manager
ARLINGTON The Dallas Cowboys could be fined and the liquor-sales permit for the new stadium could be suspended if state investigators determine that the stadiums general manager drank too much on opening night, officials said Friday.
The general manager, Jack Hill, 53, was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
His vehicle was involved in a minor collision on Randol Mill Road right outside the new Cowboys Stadium, hours after its inaugural event. No one was injured. Hill failed a field sobriety test and was arrested, police said.
Now the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is investigating whether Hill consumed too much alcohol at the stadium.
"If an employee is intoxicated on a licensed premises, we can cancel or suspend the permit for that violation," said Capt. Charlie Cloud of the commissions Dallas office.
The agency is also working to determine whether Hill is employed by the permit holder or by a related company, which may have a bearing on the penalty, he said.
The standard penalty for a first-time offense of an employee being intoxicated on a licensed premises is a $300 fine and suspension of the license for 17 to 25 days, according to the Alcoholic Beverage Code.
Repeat offenses can lead to longer suspensions or cancellation of the permit.
The investigation, which is being handled by the agencys Fort Worth office, could wrap up quickly or drag out, depending on the cooperation of witnesses, Cloud said. Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels issued this statement Friday: "We are aware and are cooperating with their review."
Hill, who had been construction manager for the $1.15 billion stadium, was released from jail Sunday on $1,000 bail.
