I talked to Bush tonight and asked him when he talked about pressure defense, if he wanted the defense to play the way the old HOUSE of PAIN Oiler defenses to play.

His answer was that was what he was looking for and that he expected the defense to get as many hats to the ball as possible.

He said this should help create more turnovers.

I'm happy to hear that the defense is going to be playing that way but have concerns because the Texans dont have Childress playing DT controlling the interior line of scrimmage.

A more aggresive defense is fine by me... I think it's bout time for a little attitude adjustment!! can't wait to see how this all turn's out.. if we could get our defense top 10 in the league.. we could make a huge splash in the playoffs and possibly the superbowl

Active defense vs. reactive defense. Be the dominant unit on the field, make the offense responsive to what the defense is doing, set the tone.

I like Frank Bush, but IMO, we've been force-fed fluff for a while now from the defensive side of the ball. The past 3 years we've gone into preseason and played just as bland as the season before and we blamed it on being just preseason games. I will wait until TC and the preseason games in order to gather and form my own opinion rather than allowing myself to be set up for disappointment.

All new coaches promise stuff everyone wants to hear. But remember, Bush is who Kubiac wanted in the first place, so hopefully this all works out. I for one would LOVE to see a hard hitting and mean defense.

I, like all Oiler fans, enjoyed the House of Pain days.

I would love to see the type of defense that can come out and punch the opposing offense in the mouth. I just don't want to end up disappointed like in years past by convincing myself that our D was "vanilla" because it was preseason. I want results

I like it! Another thing about our defense going forward that I see, is that we've got some good, great and high potential players... and lots of them. In the past everyone pretty much knew who would be the starters. To a degree we still know that, but there's so much more quality and more competition than ever before. You look at players on each line of defense we have and there are guys fighting for starting spots... not JUST to make the team. The level of competition is higher than ever before and this should even rub off on those guys with their spots secured. If a player isn't performing in TC, preseason or regular season games... he's going to get pulled out and the next guy will be in there (and there probably won't be a big drop off in play, if at all). I think our guys aren't going to be playing lazy anymore. Playoffs here we come.:fans:

Sure is nice to see that being said about our team now. God knows we have waited long enough. I think Kubes and Smith are doing a great job of building this team. Now we just have to keep them together for a while.

Busch is likely to tie them to the contact side of the blocking sleds.:texflag:

I missed Bush's talk but I understood it was pretty much like what has been said previously--lots of generalities not too many specifics.

I videoed part of Joe Marciano's talk and part of Kyle Shanahan's talk. They were excellent. (Would have had more video but there was some significant operator error on my part). Lots of details. I hope to download the video soonishly and do a write up at the Chron blog of what I remember.

I also asked Marciano about Jacoby's penchant for fumbling punts in bad weather games. Marciano said they are trying to teach Jacoby not to swing the ball when he runs thereby not exposing the ball to the defense. They are also going to spend time doing drills in TC trying to knock the ball loose from Jacoby.

Marciano said that Jacoby blames his fumbling punts on catches in bad weather games on wearing sleaves.

I think they should have Jacoby fielding punts with the sprinklers on during TC.
