Chron Article On JJ

I think he is on the hot seat. He's out of special teams only player time/roster spot, IMHO. Needs to be able to play WR or I think he is gone at years end (or not, depending on his contract).

That's good to see. We need big play guys, but we need to protect the ball first. If you score 2 TD's, but fumble 4 times, you hurt more than help.

He's signed to 2010...........this year's cap hit ~ $650,000, next year's ~ $750,000. His maturation window may be close to over.

My Fiance and I were talking about how empowering it is to receive a degree. It sounds like a light went on in Jacoby's head this past season starting the the DWI and getting leap frogged more or less by a less physically talented David Anderson, who got his contract matched.

I hope this maturation process as a person translates to maturation as a player. The WR corps is solid right now but could really be special if we get him playing to potential.

I'm not buying anything with JJ at this point. Whether he matures or not he's Jerome Mathis 2.0 and just a KR/PR. He won't ever be a consistent WR for us, and I could care less a this point if he even makes the team.

Yep

What about his parting at the Super Bowl with his agent?

I'll believe he's changed when his actions prove it.

I realize that we don't cut these guys any slack becuase of the dollars they make, but I know how I was at 19,20,21 and the mentality I had. I had the same lightbulb go off when I was about 26 and finally got my degree. My priorities and work ethic changed big time and if Jacoby had the same thing happen, then that can only mean good things for him and the team. I am cautiously optimistic.

What about it? Players change agents like underwear and girlfriends. That tells me nothing.

That the Texans haven't found another punt returner to compete with Jacoby tells me a lot. I guess they're buying what Jones is selling. And like most organizations, they want to give the guys they drafted every chance to succeed. I still think there's a good football player inside of Jacoby. I think the Texans agree.

I still think he can make a decent PR for us, but like I said before last season I still haven't seen any indication of the polish it requires to be an every down WR in his game. I think we'll probably see him run a few reverses and fly routes again this season, but otherwise his main role will be making texans' fans hold their collective breath on punt returns.

Two strikes and you're out...............If Jones botches two returns this season, he's gone..........expect him to be moving back in with mommy.

Excuse my pessimism, but I want to see the results out on the field. While this is just an offseason fluff article I really hope this is how he feels and that it translates to production. The Texans have been very patient with this young man and it's time for some ROI.

I really want him to be successful, it was exciting watching him in pre-season that rookie year but that feeling has long since been replaced. If he starts to live up to the potential we all feel he has we might just see huge things this season. And if the dog would not have stop to take a sh*!, he would have caught the rabbit.

I am pulling for him, if he can just get more reliable and consistent it will be a big step in the right direction.

If he lives up to his "potential", (my least favorite word in football), He will be amazing. Big, strong, electric, and fast. Nice combo. Just live up to your hype man!

I think the matching of David Anderson's contract illustrated the confidence that the coaching staff has in JJ. I think the guy has shown enough flash to give him every opportunity to stay on the roster. If he can hang on to the ball on special teams, that alone is enough to keep him around this year - but I think he has to take the next step on offense to stick around next year.

I am not sure when Andre Davis' contract is up, but I think I remember that being a two year deal (with maybe an option for a third). I think the organization would like to see JJ mature into a third or fourth receiver, so he can fill that role next year. David Anderson has locked up the other back-up spot and you bring a young guy on the cheap for the fifth spot. Maybe James Casey fills a TE/WR roll in his second year?

Smithiak obviously agree with you.

I just choose not to drink the koolaid.

The proof will be in the pudding and I hope I'm wrong about JJ.

This is coming from a member of the sunshine club.

The thing with Jacoby is the coaching staff wants him to be the 3rd wr, but his fumbles keep them from trusting him. If he solves that problem he could be a very productive wr, but he hasnt done that up to this point.

I've already written off JJ in my mind, so if he doesn't make it this season, I'm not going to care. If he does make the team, does a good job, then it'll be a nice suprise, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Anybody can talk good to the press.

did joe say jj was taking over kickoff duties off andre davis in that video?

I don't believe Davis was even mentioned, while Jones was said to be expected to punt AND kick return (in addition to excell as a receiver)........."and he knows that he can't screw up." All that's a lot to expect from a guy that last year MOSTLY screwed up.

That's basically where I'm at with him.

I wouldn't be upset if he doesn't make the team either. But, just think how dadgum good he'd be if he was able to get right in the head. The dude would be downright scary if he was ever able to get right.

Agreed about "talk". The same goes for folks talking up our defense already. Let's see it on the field.
