Any ideas on June 1 possible releases that might benefit Texans? I know Denver has surplus of running backs. I don't think we have gone after any late summer releases the last two years. Risk/costs versus reward.

How about suggestions of who I can watch this college season that might be available for us in 2010? Even if our picks do well, we can suppose we will draft another corner, linebacker and defensive line. ALso a guard could be on our list. Any 2009 draft picks that you think might not stick with the team drafting them that might be someone one we would look at? I think Chris Ogbonnaya RB from Texas 6-0 220 signed by Rams in 7th and Trevor Canfield OG signed by Cardinals as a compensatory pick are possibles.

I think the team has so improved that we might be able to go best player available each round next season and that is a huge step.
 
It'd be very nice if the Broncos released Peyton Hillis. (Great power back to go w/Slaton and can also be fullback depth)

If by next season the Texans are still having questions at the Safety position, Taylor Mays would be ideal. (But he may go as high as a Top 10 pick, so let's hope we don't have that "luxury")
 
It seems possible that sometime this season Myers could be shifted to guard. Is the combination Pitts, Bresiel, Myers and Studdard sound or might that be something to prioritize? I have not seen enough of Studdard to know if he could be a quality back up going forward. I am glad that we are reducing our contact with high price free agents and building through the draft.

Though he's hopefully not available for us at the time we pick (meaning we don't have a high draft spot), watch Eric Berry from Tennessee. I would give up the 2010 first and 2011 first in a heartbeat to move up in the top 10 to draft him. He is an absolute monster. However, I'm not Rick Smith so it probably won't happen.. but I would be ecstatic if the Texans could somehow get this kid on our team.

Watch him (Eric) to see if he improves.

But at this moment, I'm not giving him 1st round grade.

As far as safety is concerned, everybody knows about Taylor Mays USC.

But another guy I'm gonna be keeping tab on is #1 Morgan Burnett, Ga Tech.
3 Ints as a Fr, 7 Ints as a Soph last year.
6'1 - 210 good size and speed.

In HS, he had 135 tackles as a senior and and six interceptions including three that he returned for touchdowns . . . Also had 1,100 yards rushing, 875 yards receiving and 650 yards passing . . . Added 101 tackles and five interceptions (one touchdown) as a junior, as well as 950 yards rushing, 800 yards passing and 620 yards receiving.

While you watch Ga Tech, check out #91 DE Derrick Morgan as well.
6'4 - 270 not all that fast 4.9-40 speed, but he's a hard worker who can also plays the run.
5 solo sacks and 4 assts last year.

They also got a couple of good RBs in Jonathan Dwyer & Roddy Jones.

Mike Florio is now reporting that the Broncos have signed Darius Walker. I've lost count of the number of RBs that McDaniels has in his stable now--even with the release of Selvin Young. There might be some really interesting players hitting the streets soon, but if they release Hillis, they really are bozo's (barring injury). I've talked him up in other threads, but Hillis would just about be the perfect complement to Slaton in our system.

Man, you don't think Berry is a 1st round pick in next years draft? I LOVE this kid. He plays smart, fast, and most importantly, with passion. He loves being out there, making the big hits and big plays. He was the leader of a very good Tennessee defense last year. I can only imagine he's going to become a much better player this year under the tutelage of one of the greatest defensive minds in NFL history. If the Texans could somehow get this kid, we would have an incredibly athletic and talented defense for the next couple of years.

He could be, if he improves in coverage even though he often play very deep, and not playing overly agressive, getting unecessary interference calls, among other kind of penalties like face mask or horse collar.
 
There seems to be quite a few RBs jogging for positions in next year draft.
A lot of speed...
Many of them are scatbacks type, but some can run between tackles.
And there are also a few big guys with some speed as well.

The Trojans and the Gators have a lot of speed.
Clemson has a good tandem.
So does OU.
Calif, Penn St, W.Va, LSU, some prospects there.

There's a guy at Georgia who was in the shadow of Moreno.
A couple of additional sleepers at Tulane, and Illinois.

A big guy at Miss. St. who has some speed.
And don't forget to watch some Oregon's football. This big guy I like.
Dwyer is about 228, these two guys are around 240.
 
As far as LB go. Just watch SEC and Big 12 football.

Those Sooners I like, especially Lewis, he has top speed among the LBs, I believe.
The Longhorns have a couple of good prospects as well, top is Kindle.
Mizzou has a very active one.

Then there's Herzlich at BC, I like to get one these 3 guys.
(oh well, we've already got Cushing.)

Another good one at Linebacker-U up in Pennsylvania.
 
The CBs, nobody really stood out for me last year.
Especially if one likes to have a combination of size and speed.
Maybe the guy from Wake Forest. Ghee, he can run!

Watch some local football and cheer for a Cougar prospect.
He's likely to get drafted based on a combo of decent size/speed/and production last year.

The Bama & VTech guys look decent.
Florida got one, Oregon got one.
Those are the ones I've watched.

Georgia Tech fan here, so I'm familiar with all these guys. I think Derrick Morgan will be a very solid player in the NFL, but I don't think he's a fit for the Texans. He's more of a power 4-3 end/3-4 end. I think he will be a solid player in the NFL for a long time though.

What do you think about the other guys I mentioned?

O-line, it's hard to remember after reviewing so many games, and concentrating on the guys who were in this draft, and not next year's draft.

What I know is BC will have a very strong line and some good prospects for the Texans. They run a zbs up there and those young guys looked good.

I think Jones is too small for the NFL, but he's electric when he gets the ball.

I think Dwyer would be a nice mid-round back. I'm starting to see people mention him, but you have to be careful because Tech's new offense is going to make RBs look a lot better than they are. Similar to another Tech school and their QBs.

I think Burnett's a good player. When I watched him I never though, "this guy's a first round safety," but, then again, I'm no talent evaluator.

Out of all the players, I'd think Morgan has the brightest future in the NFL.
 
Rams surprisingly released Pino Tinoisamoa today. We have pretty solid depth at LB so I don't think we will actively pursue him, but players like this don't get released too often.
 
Thanks, guys. I lost track of this thread and just remembered it. Hopefully, we will not need a DE,LB or CB next draft. I'll be watching Taylor Mays but he might not be there when we select. Safety and RB is still a concern of mine that I hope will be eliminated this season. Also, June 1st cuts are not too far away.

If the Texans are in a position to get Taylor Mays next year (without trading up), it will have been a very disappointing season.
 
I just want to add that to not rule any player out. Right now these guys are hyped up but I guarantee half of these so called top 10's will drop. Just remember when we'd be talking about Michael Johnson and William Moore as top 5, top 10 locks. I guess what I'm saying is don't NOT watch a player just because you think he may not even be available!
