CC Brown/Texans probs

Yeah, I heard it too. For people who don't listen to the interview, the summary, in a nutshell, is that he's claiming that the team chemistry on the Texans last year wasn't very good. He says that the Giants players "gel" a lot more than what he experienced in Houston.

Although team chemistry can't be forced, I hope the Texans' staff takes these comments to heart and works on ways to promote greater team unity.

He's just bitter because we cut him. If you listen to everyone on our team they all talk about how good the team chemistry is.

Texans problems? Yeah, they are with the Giants now. CC is in a position to be loved after being spurned and being off the playing field due to injury. It should feel like the first day of school for him. I wish him the best.

The difference is that their team has more veterans with playoff experience and we are just starting to learn how to win games. Once they get a taste of the playoffs and any success, the chemistry like the Giants will come. Also, the Giants pulled off one of the greatest upsets in SuperBowl history. If that doesn't make a team come together with chemistry, i don't know what will.

P.S. Hey Can't Cover, lets see if any of that chemistry let's you see the field.

I guess Carr signed him up for the Ex Texans club and he felt wanted .

When are people going to admit the Texans are perfect? What would a player know about team chemistry anyway?

On a more serious note, the number of times we've seen the secondary burned because people are out of position could easily lead to "chemistry" problems. Haven't players said before that they've been confused by Smith's defensive schemes? Maybe Winston Smith has got to that bit of history too.

I'm sure a dude that just got signed as a free agent is not going to say that his new team is lesser in any phase than his old team. He's not going to say "Well, one thing I will say about Houston is that they had much better this or that than over here in NY".

After watching the last few years, does it take a CC interview to hint of a Texans D chemistry problem? In general, you could see how players on the O fed positively on each other. One player never seemed to be truly called out as a "problem." However, there were constantly individuals and groups (whether DL, CB's or DB's) and, of course, coaches all negatively called out at one time or another for their lack of ability or lack of effort or lack of football IQ. It was was obvious that the "blame" game was always going on under breath, undermining any positives that may having been present. All of these nonconstructive factors were evident with the D, and it shouldn't take CC's comments to have miraculously opened anyone's eyes to the obvious.

I think I will file this in the who gives a crap category. It would be no suprise to me that a very young team doesnt have great chemistry. The longer they play together the better it will get. I dont think this is much of a "problem".

So Orwellian of you. Hopefully Bush can live up to and leverage the fruits of Fangio and Smith's labor.

Brown in my opinion was talking about off field alchemy rather than on the field chemistry. For the record we were 8-5 without this services last year.

We already know our overall D hasn't performed up to expectations yet. He's just found another way to say the same thing.

Huh. So I take it you don't subscribe to a view of the Texans closing out their day by sitting around post-shower in their towels holding hands and singing kumbaya.

Wasn't CC at least "adequate" under Capers? I don't recall specifics, but I thought he was ok.

He was also part of a defense that trended from average to bad. I don't think his statement was taking a shot at the Texans as much as giving an honest opinion of differences between the teams. Maybe there is some information to be gleaned here.

Not really. He was a hard hitter who missed tackles too often. He was a Free Saftey who couldn't make a play to save his life. He was very bad in coverage. He could hit hard, but wouldn't bring his arms. He was allergic to Tight Ends. He was ehh depth and a pretty solid special teamer. Thats it.

The Texans' problems? We had guys like C.C. Brown starting for a couple years at a time.
CC Brown was actually one of my favorite players... I thought he was misunderstood.

I could easily imagine a scenario where the team chemistry isn't that great.

But I also remember Jacques Reeves saying something similar about the Cowboys. I frequent the Cowboys forum, and I remember at that time, they demonized Jacques.... and we appreciated his remarks.

turns out we're no better than the Cowboy fans.

What if there is some truth to what CC said? What if he is just saying on a scale of 1-10, we're a 7, and the Giants are a 10.....

Why is it a big deal?

Agreed.

I could easily see a scenario where the Cowboys are a 3.

Go Texans!
There's a honeymoon period of time for every person who just lands a new job.

It's the old "the grass is greener over here on this side" syndrome.

There's no better chemistry, and no worse chemistry, here on this team than there is (or isn't) on any other NFL team. Each team has its pros and its cons, and the Bengals and Jaguars defintely have more cons than pros.

Thank you, thankyouverymuch! I'll be here all week...:tiphat:

I could easily imagine a scenario where he didn't feel respected because his game was subpar. At best.

Are you kidding me? Jacques Reeves has been flamed, put out, and flamed and put out and flamed again on this board.

It isn't. Just noting that the perspective this comes from has no merit.

team chemistry has been crap....just ask infantrycak. Those of you who have been paying attention already know that he reported several times when the players were openly arguing with their position coaches the last couple of years (he has seats way down low in the bowl). We fired most of the D coaches. First time coordinators don't work out sometimes.

Translation: I'm on a team with a defensive staff that knows what they are doing.

Can't emphasize this enough that I really hope Bush is the guy here. The FO didn't look like they did that much of a serious search for candidates. This hiring IMO is all on Kubiak. Got the guy he wanted and has some nice pieces to work with on defense. No more excuses for sucking it up this year.

Without further information I would limit the comments to the D side of the ball, but on D they certainly have had chemistry issues at least with the coaches. Vinny is right, I sit front row Texans' side down by where the kickers hang out (right side of the bench). There have been a couple of incidents the last two years the most notable of which was Mario trying to talk to Franklin, getting ignored, trying again, ignored again and then having to be physically restrained. I think chemistry was probably also hurt on D by the changes - starters like CC and Demps getting pulled for newcomers Wilson and Ferguson. Rookie sensation Bennett going to reserve. Mario obviously not liking the read and react scheme - an opinion probably shared by Okoye and TJ at least, Dunta not being game day hyped to rally the troops, etc.

Repped. This speaks volumes about the defensive problems last year. Sounds like a lot of this stuff is systematic.

David Carr was the glue that kept team together and the morale up. Players, coaches and fans waited breathlessly to see when he would cut his hair. Everyone was pleased when McNair shelled out another $8 million or so to keep the Texans in the national spotlight. What other player (well maybe Mario when selected over our favs Bush and the guy from UT) caused more posts? Carr created the "shuffle and fall down quick" move that might get him into the hall of fame.

Oh and let me mention that Bosseli (the LT not Andre Bocelli the singer whom I also like) walked the sidelines keeping players focused. We really need players like these. I don't think Cushing is intense enough.

(snicker. I had you going for a bit didn't I?)

CC basically said the Giants (who have one of the best defenses in football) have better chemistry than the Texans (who had Richard Smith as DC).

I dont see anything wrong with that. If your team is a SB contender i'd hope their D has better chemistry than the D of a recently fired DC.

Do we as fans really have so much P envy that we get upset about hearing that the team with the best record in the NFC last year might have better team chemistry than we do? Seriously?

What C.C. says is probably true. I don't even take it as an insult. Just because the Giants have great chemistry doesn't mean that ours is bad.

I think thunderkyss' post about a theoretical scale is probably the most accurate interpretation of Brown's comments.

If I remember correctly, wasn't Franklin in the group that was invited to the Pro Bowl by Mario? I'm pretty sure I remember reading that somewhere.

That may not be the case at all. He might have gone over to NY and really fee like the team chemistry is better, and it certainly might be. After the Giants did just win a SB two years ago and have one of the best records in the NFL last season, so they're obviously doing a lot of things right over there and the chemistry is pretty good with their success.

Does that mean that the Texans don't have good chemistry? No, but I don't think that it's that hard to imagine that a team like the Giants might have better chemistry with how successful they've been in the last two seasons.

I believe team chemistry is bad because of unproductive players at the S position like CC. and Earl

LB position (Greenwood)

DL (Weaver, TJ, Okoye)

CB Petey

The good news is Smithiak have added talented young guys.

As they learn and improve the defenses chemisty will improve.

The if in this is Dunta lockeroom lawyering and causing a riff.

I hope for Kubes sake the young guys learn at a fast enough rate to save his job or Uncle BoB will be patient enough to stay the course.

I believe Uncle BoB will stay the course because he is making his money and everybody knows with Uncle BoB it's always about the money.

The media at least, if not C.C., continues to try to stir the pot.

What happened yesterday with the Giants never happened in C.C. Brown's four years in Houston.

More than 40 players got together for a friendly round of paintball, a team-bonding excursion arranged by Rich Seubert and Chase Blackburn.

"In Texas, we never did that kind of thing," Brown said this week during the off-season conditioning program. "The closest thing we ever did was go to practice. Stuff like that pays off in the long run."

I think it's a true statement that the players didn't get together in such a large group for non-football related stuff. I know Dave Carr rented a hotel ballroom one time and had a Christmas party for the team when they had an away game over the holiday. I think it was on a California trip, but I know better than to trust my memory on minor details anymore.

Position groups got together sometimes - picture the entire oline at Fogo de Chao!

Forty players is most of a team - I don't recall ever hearing about large numbers of Texan players from both sides of the ball getting together. There were individual friendships that crossed the line. In fact, I know specifically about one of the end of season parties sponsored by the team in the Capers era. It was two parties on different days - one for the O, one for the D.

If NY does what was reported, I suspect they are the exception.

Of course, I don't go to my company's big gatherings either.

Somewhere along the way I remember Kubiak/Texans going bowling as a team during camp. Maybe that was during Casserly's reign......oh well, I guess bowling doesn't count like paintball when building team chemistry, especially when C.C. has to stay home.
