Arian Foster RB signed

That's okay. All the other picks got their own thread.

I like Foster. If he's healthy, the guy is 3rd round talent or better. A preseason battle between him an Jeremiah Johnson should be entertaining, to say the least.
 
effective inside zone runner, has strength to break initial tackle, one speed but is the type of downhill runner who can be productive in this system. :)
 
First look seems like he's the bigger RB we're looking for. Johnson is another small back but could be a practice squad guy.
 
If we can find whichever RB coach that coached Tiki Barber to not fumble the ball, Foster could be a great pick-up for us.
 
According to John McClain of Chron.com, the Texans lured Foster to Houston by offering him a two-year contract, which is very rare for a free agent, but they must feel strongly about him. This is likely one reason why they were able to beat out the Saints for his services.

Sounds like he has a pretty legitimate shot at making the team then.
 
I've been looking at tape on Foster, however i dont think Tenn ran a ZBS system. So he's gonna have a certain learning curve. Not to say that he cant, but IMO its so much easier for guys like Slaton, Jermiah from Oregon, and even Chris Brown, that have run this in college to see the field quicker. This is why im more partial Jermiah rather then this kid.

Yes, the Vols do run the ZBS.
Here's straight from the announcer during the Georgia game.
(Around 6:56 in the first qtr.)

... The LT, and the LG, did a superb job... just.. just pushing in that zone blocking scheme, moving that LOS a little bit, giving Hardesty (the other RB) a lane to cut back, and he made a quick decision, snuck it up in there for a good seven yard gain...

Cool. Thanks for clearing that up. I couldnt tell from the highlight clips. Somehow its so much easier to see the ZBS when watching Oregon. maybe i need glasses.

Tennessee also employs a rare niche on offense that used to be popular all over the country but you hardly see it these days.

They play their o linemen quick side and strong side, meaning that they don't have a designated LG and RG or LT and RT. They have a strong side OG and OT that always line up on the strong side and a quick side OG and OT that always line up on the weak side.

The wider splits in the spread offense make it easier for the viewer to actually see what is going on in the middle.
 
I am interested if the Texans will want him to regain some weight. If he can be a power back his speed is not as important.

His top end speed will not be important, but his acceleration and quickness still will be.

A bulldozer can't run over anybody if it can't get moving.

The deciding factor in who wins a collision is a combination of mass and velocity. Just because you are big doesn't mean you will win.

But Foster will do fine as an UDFA. As long as he can stay on the field.
And with him being a complement back and not a feature back, I certainly hope that he can.

I agree.

I would be fine with Foster gaining weight, but only if he doesn't have to sacrifice speed to do so.

I think he will do fine where he is at though.
 
Arian Foster was one hell of a back his junior season. If he would have come out early, he would have easily been a 2nd-3rd round pick. Unfortunately, he was injured late in his junior season, so he was forced to come back one more season and prove himself all over again. If he's the same back that he was his junior season, then the Texans have themselves one helluva back.
