Jeremiah Johnson RB Oregon

I was chatting with a fan on another site and asked him all about the guy. He's watched this guy for years and this is what he had to say.

He can break runs. He's faster in pads then his 40 time, and he's great in space. He had 120 yards on 12 carries against Oklahoma St in their bowl game, and had like 200+ yards on 17 carries the game prior vs Oregon St. He didn't get drafted because I dont think people believe he can line up behind the I and pound it 25 times a game. But as a change of pace back, I think he can be very good.

Didnt know he had injury problems....thats probably what cost him in the draft then.

He takes a lil too much outside. like to see him get up the feild more. Gibbs will fix that go. QUICK.

I wanted to draft this guy with one of our picks. I remember hearing good stuff about him but I forgot where; recently I remember reading about him in the Senior Bowl coverage from NFLDC. I dug some stuff up just now from their archive:

sidenote: the six RBs that participated in the Senior Bowl were Cedric Peerman, Kory Sheets, Rashad Jennings, James Davis, Andre Brown, and Jeremiah Johnson.

Foster and Motos should be the three and four guy if needed on the PS Jeremiah Johnson is the number two man for sure and Chris Brown should not even make the team.

Generally? On the YouTube video that's all he did was take it to the outside. Did not see him hit one inside running lane. It won't take a NFL DC very long to shut that action down. The kid does cut well though. If he can be coached, then he might work out. I'm not penciling him in on the opening day roster just yet. Which leaves the back up RB roll still unfulfilled.

If he's disciplined, the coaching staff will quickly school him on how to run the zone stretch. They will teach him to read one of his blockers, make a decision and a single cut and go. If he's coachable and willing, he has the burst and center of gravity to do that well. So, I think there is a good chance he'll make the squad.

Well, that isn't all we need at RB. We needed another RB like Slaton to be able to come in anytime Slaton needs a breather, and not cause the offense to miss a beat. I think Jeremiah will do just that.

Now, if Foster or someone else can handle Goalline and crucial short yardage rushing attempts then our RB needs will be filled.

Im not that impressed with Foster from Tenn.

But THIS guy is the real deal. I've been looking at some clips of him. Oregon is primarly a spread passing/zbs offense, much like Slaton had at WVU. His vision is off the charts and he make FANTASTIC cuts.

When I see that film the first thing that comes to mind is why wasn't this guy drafted?

Like I said. I love the way he cuts. If he is coachable, then he is a great pick up. Let's hope he doesn't get on Kubes bad side like DW did.

First, let me say that Tennessee OL was frig'n awesome..... but IMHO, Arian Foster looks like Terrell Davis. That OL made the holes, got him to the second level. Foster would make that first guy miss, and then he was gone. He also used his stiff arm effectively to get the corner, when he had to, and he caught the ball well out of the backfield.

If only the highlight video would show him picking up the blitz.....

But if our OL could make those holes and get him to the second level...... I'd like to see what he could do.
 
Some comments from JJ from Oregon live:

"I think anybody, when you have a good season like I did and did everything right, it's your dream to hear your name called in the draft," Johnson said. "But after everything was over, we knew why they didn't call my name. Everything was put in perspective, and my future is in my hands."

Johnson's agent, Bardia Ghahremani, said his client went undrafted because of a medical flag NFL teams placed on him because of a shoulder injury from last season. It also didn't help that the 5-foot-9 Johnson ran the 40-yard dash in a mediocre 4.65 seconds at the NFL scouting combine.

"The powers that be in the NFL decided that it would be a safer bet to try and get him as a free agent than to draft him," Ghahremani said.

In the end, Ghahremani said, not getting drafted allowed Johnson to pick his team from among a few suitors. The Texans, both thought, presented the best opportunity.

"I feel as though this is a good team for me, a place where I can get on the field fairly quickly either on special teams or in the backfield," Johnson said.

Foster has a much better chance to make the roster than Johnson imho. Johnson doesn't take it up the gut, and Foster does. In fact prior to getting injured, Foster was given a 2nd round grade by the NFL advisory committee as a Jr. The guy has big time talent, but he isn't super fast. He was on my radar bigtime as we got into the 6th and 7th rds.

As for the young man from Liberty rumor has it (totally unsubstantiated) that he tested positive for juice (ie steriods). If true, that would explain his fall from grace and why nobody touched him until rd 7. Take that FWIW, it's just a rumor I heard. Nothing more and no link. This was something I heard.

Regarding Johnson, He certainly has the stature and explosiveness to play effectively for us. If he's coachable, one of the strengths of the ZBS is that the reads are straight forward and can quickly be taught to backs. So, if he listens and adapts to the offense, he could be a player for us.... at least, he should be able to be affective in the zone stretch.
