Titans most likely will wear oilers uniforms against Texans on MNF

Think about it....They don the uniform 3 times next season, 1 of those times has to be against the Texans...What would be your reactions?

You know what? I hope they do! It will just make the crowd loud, and crazy when they are on offense. It would absolutely ruin them. Also probably some riots would erupt too which would be kind of cool! :spot:

Someone told me they weren't allowed to wear them here in Houston, because it's the old city....But I've never heard of that.

Now I did wonder if they were allowed to wear their throwback jerseys on the road, or if they had to be worn at home.

It's already been said a bazillion times. The games for those Titans throwbacks are supposedly set. Once against the Jets, and I forget the other one - Rams maybe - but it's not going to be against the Texans.

Um, but if that were to somehow happen, I'm bringing a hammer to the game.

You'll be seeing Vince on the bench wearing this clean throwback...............

They cannot wear anything but the road Uni when on the road. I hope they wear the Oiler Uni in Nashville against us, just to prove to Cowgirl fan that we beat the oilers.

I think the AFL throwbacks are only to be worn when playing another original AFL team. If so, they can't wear them against us because we aren't an original AFL team. Might be wrong on that, but that's how I understand it to work.

Yep, I think you're right on the money.

That's what Thorn posted in another thread. I hope it's true.

I don't believe that that is an imposed limitation. I believe that teams can choose 2 or 3 games to wear their throwbacks. Those teams without a throwback history (Texans, Panthers, Jaguars) were given the option of the "third" or "alternate" uniform to act like throwbacks. The Titans acknowledged early on that they had no claim to the Oilers by designing and wearing their powder blue ALTERNATE uni. We can only speculate why Bud suddenly found the need to tarnish the Oilers legacy.

This is different from regular alternate jerseys. The league is honoring the anniversary of the AFL - that's why there are some rules in place regarding when they can wear them. Teams can still wear their alternate unis when they want (not to exceed a certain number of times) but as far as, specifically, these 2009 AFL throwbacks - they're only being worn against other AFL teams.

It doesn't matter what they wear next season. We're going to kick the crap out of them twice whether they're pretend Oilers or for-real Possums.

Did a little more checking and for the most part you and EDO are correct about this point.

However, Joe Texan, it appears that some teams have already announced their intentions to be playing other AFL teams wearing their throwbacks on the road.

An EXAMPLE are the TACKS.

The jersey will be worn twice during the regular season in “Legacy Games” - once at home and once on the road - against two of the team’s four AFL opponents (home vs. Bills, Chargers, road vs. Patriots, Jets). Those games will be announced when the 2009 NFL schedule is released on Tuesday.
****************************************************
The Chiefs “throwback” look will feature helmets with gray facemasks and a Texas-shaped decal with a gold star showing the location of the city of Dallas. Jerseys for the club’s “throwback” games will include a patch that honors the AFL’s 50th anniversary. Kansas City will don these replica uniforms when they host the Dallas Cowboys at Arrowhead Stadium and against two AFC West opponents yet to be determined (one home date and one away date).

doesn't matter to me anymore. that team is history and we have our own team to be concerned with.

Bud can dress those turds up however he wants and it won't affect me at all.

I'd LOVE to see the Titans in the old Oilers uniforms vs the Texans. The stadium would be insane....too bad if DHC is right.

They are NOT wearing the Oilers uni's against us, neither on the road nor at Reliant. Only the original AFL teams are wearing them and they are only wearing them when playing against another original AFL team. The Titans are wearing them at the Hall of Fame game, and once on the road against a former AFL team, and once at home against a former AFL team.

Time for this issue to die once and for all......

One of the things I never really thought about before seeing that picture was that for most Titans fans this must be kind of "odd". I mean, I don't have any stupid idea that they don't know much about their teams history or anything like that. I know there are plenty of fans who followed them to Tennessee and through their "gender reassignment" from manly Oilers to.... well whatever they call that mess they are today.

Of course they know all about the Oiler history but I think it would suck if every time my team participated in anything like this they went and changed into the clothes and identity that they wore at their original home. They don't get to go to some old version of the Titans because that's the Jets business. They have to be the Oilers and that pretty much means they have to be the Houston Oilers.

It's like your wife telling you that she's got her High School reunion coming up but you can't take her. She's going with her old boyfriend instead.

One part of me wishes that we were involved somehow in this AFL anniversary thing because we were there and their current fans (excepting carryovers like Toronto here) weren't. Then it dawned on me that when the Titans play their games this year as the Houston Oilers we are involved in this. To ATF (Average Titan Fan) this is maybe a little bit novel but its right up there with cheering Elvin Bethea into the "ring of honor". It's a chance to go drain the monster and get another beer. For old Oiler fans its at least as much a chance to see them take the field again as anything else.

I'd like to see the Texans play the Oilers and then again I'm kind of relieved that it won't happen because on those weeks when the Oilers are back (kind of) I'm going to be just a little bit rooting for them.

Just for old times sake.

I'll probably turn the sound down though. I don't want to hear the announcer call them the Titans and ruin the illusion for me. That would be as bad as having the Texans run out on the field in the Chiefs old dud's with a big yellow star right where Dallas sits on the map.

When you put up a thread like this all it does is indicate to the rest of the Board how ill informed you are.

The decision as to when those throwback uniforms will be worn was made long ago, and yet you are asserting that it is "most likely" that the Titans will wear them against us on MNF.

So, do you just make this stuff up?

What I think is funny is that the Chiefs will be wearing those uniforms when they play the Cowgirls at Arrowhead. Just think that will seem a bit odd, playing the Cryboys while wearing the state of Texas with a star marking Dallas on their helmet.

If the Titans came to Reliant wearing those jerseys, I'm not sure that I would be able to go. I'd be so ticked that the minute I saw some cocky Titans fan getting loud and obnoxious in the stands I'd be way to tempted to rip it off his ass.

This makes me sick. Typical Bud Adams. Let's continue for eternity to rub salt into the Oiler fan's wound. He still hates Houston obviously. The man will go to his grave hating Houston because they wouldn't build him his stadium or invite him to the Houston socialite parties. He'll always be that unaccepted outsider. Go ahead Bud. Play your little games. Your loser Titans will never be the Oilers, no matter what you dress them up as. BOOOO.

GO TEXANS!!!!!

First of all I wasn't alive when the Oilers were wearing those uniforms. It would be worse seeing the Titans wearing the white helmets and uniforms of either the Luv Ya Blue era or Run and Shoot era.

Second, we are pretty fortunate that they changed the name and uniforms. Think of the poor fans in Baltimore that still have to watch that team in Indy play as the Colts and look like they did in Baltimore.

I hear ya on this one Tex! I feel the same way. I WAS around when the Oilers wore those uni's, and seeing the pic again brought back some wonderful memories. I would HATE for those memories to be tarnished, and I am thankful the meatballs will not be wearing them against us. Unfortunately, for me, my dislike for that team gets worst every year, and I find myself wanting to rip Titan jerseys off ANYONE I see, just because!! lol I didn't feel that way until VY walzed into the end zone and yelled, "this is my house!" GAWD, I will never forget that moment!! Everytime we play them now I get violent thoughts, j/k, BUT, it would not be wise for any Titan fan to cross me on that particular day. I would have to get my "boys" to bail me out of jail, and that's no joke!!

Say I want to buy this hat................

Who I am I representing? Houston or Nashville?

I already have old Oilers stuff that I like because it's old-school. If the answer is Nashville, then why not get rid of all the Oiler stuff that I already have?

This is just confusing.
