What is your main concern this season?

Injuries? Player response to new coaches or schemes? Players taking next step up such as Okoye or TJ or LT Brown? Players coming off injuries such as Molden? What about team not getting the player (s) in the draft you wanted? Even though draft is still days away, voice your concern if you just know Schaub is going to miss games and Captain O. will not be the guy we need at QB and we could have drafted a a quarterback.

Should we have spent the big bucks and gone after a high profile free agent? Will Kubes be better at time management and whipping out the red flag? Are you concerned about Shannahan being THE play caller for 16 games?

I'm worried about Okoye and Brown stepping up. Those are my biggest concerns.

I'd like for Schaub to play a full season, that's probably my second biggest concern. But I think Orlovsky will actually flourish in this offense.

I don't want and didn't want a big money FA. I think Shanahan calling the plays full time will be good and I think that will allow Kubes to do his job better.

I'm worried about facing the 3-4 teams in the AFC East and them absolutely man-handling Myers and then the possible injuries to Schaubby.

Oh, and our new defense being all talk instead of actually being agressive.

I'm worried about the OL's progression and their ability to stay healthy for 16 more games. If one guy gets injured, I'm not liking the results in the W/L column.

I'm interested in Schaub's maturation from last season to this season. Will he protect the ball more than he has in the past?

I'm interested in the defense's ability to create pressure. I assume it's going to be better but I hope it's not just better but VERY good.

What, me worry? :shades:

My concerns regard our defense and if this unit will improve.

I'm most concerned about our team's ability to get to the quarterback next season, in my mind it's the biggest obstacle between us and the playoffs. I'm not sold on an improved Okoye and Antonio Smith making enough of a difference next season.

I'm concerned about the overvaluing of our offensive production last year and the consequent inattention to it.

Our defense was bad, and our offense put up some yards. But, I don't think that justifies minimizing or ignoring obvious needs on the offensive side of the ball. Spinning that into my main concern of this season; my main concern is that our offense will regress because its depth was not addressed.

Defense.

I think the offense is on the right track and will play better with another year working with Gibbs and getting more depth. I've seen improvement each year and more to come.

I'm wait and see on defense.

Very much wait and see. As am I. I haven't watched the Chicago game yet but I know our red zone offense performed better. It is still a concern for me though. I think it's the nature of the ZBS. Smaller guys getting pinched in the red zone. We have to scheme around it. Did Shanahan do a better job of this or was it one game with other forces at play?

Defense is obviously the biggest most glaring concern for everyone. But our red zone offense has got to improve. We would have won 2-4 more games with better red zone production. DESPITE our lousy defense.

The secondary. We need a saftey.

I second this.
I will say this also until someone listens:

WE NEED SOMEONE IN THE SECONDARY TO INSTILL FEAR IN OUR OPPONENTS!!

We need a identity with that player as the centerpiece ala Bob Sanders or Ronnie Lott that will clean clocks every chance they get and like it! Come over the middle and you will get de-capped or have a hole punched thru your chest.

Who will that be and when will we get him?

I'm excited about the defense. I know it's going to be better. I'm worried about the depth at RB and at C/G. I'm worst fear is seeing CPitts or Briesel laying on the ground and then, as he's carted off, seeing Kasey Studdard role his way into the huddle. UGGH!

the defense. i've read articles that have me terrified that Bush's D will revert back to a lot of Smiths ideas. not to mention that im scared that Okoye won't step up but that takes a back seat as i believe we have good depth behind him with Robinson Okam and now Cody.

Put me in the Defense is my main concern team.

We have one decent to good player at each level of the defense, after those three, we've got nothing.

The many bandwagon fans that will be trying to get on board saying this has been their team all along when we put together our best season in Franchise History.

that this new attacking defensive scheme wont have major results and that because if this new attacking mentality, we'll get mauled in the run game too

Kubiak continuing to coach games like an overzealous offensive coordinator and his awful in-game strategy. I think the defense needs to be at least mediocre as well...that's to be seen.

A slow start. You cannot make the playoffs in the first month, but you can dig yourself into a very deep hole. We need to get off to a good start from game 1. We need to play hard on both sides of the ball, keep the turnovers down, and win the early games in the schedule.

I've got several concerns for the Texans in this upcoming year.
1. I think we'll be relying on at least 3 rookies on opening day at SLB, SS, OG, and possibly CB as well. My concern is that Kubiak and Smith don't "F" up this draft by selecting players out of positions, small schools, project players, and by reaching excessively. My 1st concern is that they do a good job with solid players in this draft.
2. Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers.
3. Injuries, one or 2 key injuries and this team is done for the year. We don't have enough quality and quantity of good players.
4. Players stepping up bigtime. TJ, Okoye, Brown, Reeves, Bennett, Robinson, Okam, Myers, Brisiel, Barber, Wilson and Molden. All of these players need to step up bigtime.
5. Slow start, a slow start to the season is a killer. A quick start to the season builds momentum and momentum can carry you a long ways.

Defensive performance and injuries on both sides. Also the pass rush, but that kind of goes with defensive performance.

injuries always worry me, but in particular for this year it's whether or not the defense improves.

Last years offense could have squeaked us into the playoffs if the defense would have played better. I expect the offense to be better this year, which to me, means it's still up to our defense as to if we see any playoff action.

Matt Schaub gettin injured and our starting QB is Dan Orlovsky......:gun:

Texan fan will be praying for the rosencopter or hwwnbn

I'm worried about how well the new coaches will work out. I hope it doesn't take too long for them to get their systems up and running and I hope it doesn't too long for the players to master it. I don't want to hear "Yeah, well, they're still learning it" a few years down the road to excuse poor performance.

I also a bit worried at how well the Texans will be able to retain talent. Demeco, Dunta, Owens... I hope their grumblings are just a sign that Smith is doing his job.

Main concern? Matt Schaub avoiding injury. If he goes down, ouch!! That could mean bad season and then possibly looking at a whole new QB for '10.

Development. Everyone has to be more than they were last year. Amobi, the rookies, Kubiak, Rick Smith, the :d:

More getting loud on 3rd downs!!!!!!!!!!

can we make the playoffs .....

and if we do make the playoffs we better make the most of it and make it to the superbowl ....

yeah i said it this year is Superbowl or BUST !!!!!!!!!!!! .... :I

The many bandwagon fans that will be trying to get on board saying this has been their team all along when we put together our best season in Franchise History.

Haha, I can't wait til that becomes our problem. We'll have to be fighting them off with sticks. Them, and all of the "We Want Sage" people will come back out of the wood work if we lose one of our first two games.

Actually, if I remember right, Schaub kind've ran the ball down the Dolphin's throats after the fans started doing that... maybe we should get a group of board members that go to games to start some "Sage" chants to fire him up :-P

Consistency. All the best teams in the league are consistent from week 1 to week 17...and into the playoffs cause that is where consistency gets you.

Last season we had SHORT stretches where we were consistent.. but since our inception consistency has been our biggest problem. If we can play at a consistently high level this year, we will make the playoffs. If we dont..we MAY eke into them but it will be hard.

1. Injuries to our star players. (Schaub, A. Johnson, Ryans, Williams, Daniels, etc.)
2. Turnovers.
3. Red zone efficiency.
4. Production on defense. (Do not allow more than 21pts./game)
5. Losing the close games.

I have an open mind.

Orlovsky's stats were very similar to Matt Schaub's stats before he came to the Texans. And Orlovsky was playing with a garbage 0-16 team.

Some people might wish for the Rosencopter as Orlovsky learns the offense, (and maybe if Sage does well with a running game and a really good defense) but no one, no one at all will pray for hwwnbn.

No one mentioned Jacoby Jones or special teams. I am sorta of surprised as this may be Jones last shot to keep a job.

My main concern is injuries. If Slaton goes down, we are in big trouble. If Mario goes down we are in big trouble. Then injuries to Schaub, AJ, DeMeco eveb D-Rob will hurt us a fair bit. Too many of our seasons have been marred by big injuries.

Only other real worry is that the D stays the same as last year, and we're sitting here this time next year, still hoping for the big defensive draft we need this year.

Still say that we aren't gonna get it done with little depth at running back. One hit and Moats is our starter. That isn't going to get it done. :fans:

Me too. Our lines got pushed around 2nd game against the Titans. I want our lines pushing them around TY.

1-That Bush turns out to be another Richard Smith

2-Schaub will have to dodge Chris Myers and dl on passing plays (draft Alex Mack)

3-Kubiak will continue to mishandle the clock, challenges, and play calling in pressure situations

4-Dunta Robinson becomes a locker room cancer

5-We reach on draft picks to fill needs instead of taking bpa (this years reach would be cb in the 1st)

6-Sign an aging rb to a long term contract and then draft a nobody in the 6th or 7th round because you think your system allows you to play just about any one cut and go back

7-Antonio Smith continues Weavers sackless streak

8-Amobi and Travis set new records for rushing yards allowed

9-Demeco plays like last year

10-Schaub doesn't make it through the entire season

But do you not agree RB will be addressed in draft and maybe x 2? Most fans are in agreement at least one will be selected.

How many QB sacks or hurries leading to negative yards did Myers give up? I just don't remember him being a poor as you indicate?

Dunta is arguing for a contract and has not missed any requited team events. What gives you any concern he will be a cancer? Certainly nothing historically. His health may be an issue as to returning 100% but not his attitude.

Using your BPA system, at what point do you finally address a priority need?

Signing a FA "aging RB" seems to not be a concern unless after June 1st cuts. I think Smith has learned on signing those type backs. Most mocks have a back selected in 3rd or 4th.

I am with you on 7&8

Eh.

Don't really have any concerns with the Texans. Can't sweat it too much. our team is what it is. don't have much control over that.

I'm just more concerned if the season will ever get here! I'm so ready for some Texans football win or lose!

My list doesn't mean I think these things will happen. They are things I don't want to happen this season. I'm as excited about the draft and upcoming season as the rest of the hardcore Texan fans. :smiliedance:

I was offering hope not attacking your thoughts. How would you address the three areas of need that Kubes and Smith identified? Stopping the run, increase scoring in Red Zone and DE opposite Mario Williams. Do you think Antonio Smith DE signed in Free Agency is all we need for that side of defensive line or would you draft another defensive end?

Stopping the run.

Tough one because Amobi and Johnson are who we have and the Texans have invested a whole lot of money in the dl. We need to draft a dt after the 1st round (unless Raji were to fall) that they think can fill the run stopping role. Okam might play better this year but who knows. Get another big boy and let the battle begin. Competition.

Increase scoring in the red zone.

I think drafting a guy like Alex Mack who is about as close to a sure thing as you can get and then drafting a back that is good at picking up tough yards would go along way. That is the only 2 picks I would use on offense in the draft.

Antonio Smith.

I think he is going to be a real suprise this year and be the de that the Texans have been looking for opposite Mario. He won't lead the team in sacks but he should provide enough pressure where teams can't double team Mario all the time. Add a fast lb to the mix and this defense could be exciting to watch. The middle of the line is what scares me.

No one mentioned Jacoby Jones or special teams. I am sorta of surprised as this may be Jones last shot to keep a job.

I think JJ will be given T/C and pre-season to perform or lose his spot.
I'm hoping he has grown up some and steps up this year.
but if he doesn't...
