I BLEED TEXANS!

The Texans have invited 15 Houston-area players to their facility today to participate in drills that prepare them for the April 25-26 NFL draft.

Quarterback Chase Clement, tight end James Casey and receiver Jarett Dillard from Rice; tight end Mark Hafner and defensive end Phillip Hunt from Houston; quarterback Bobby Reid from Texas Southern; defensive end Melvin Bennett from Texas A&M and receiver Johnny Knox of Abilene Christian are among the players who’ll be there.

“This is the first time we’ve done this, and we’d like to watch it grow and do it every year,” coach Gary Kubiak said.

Casey, who won’t participate in the drills, is expected to be the highest draft choice among the players. Scouts say he’ll go in the second round. Dillard is expected to be taken in the third or fourth round.

It would be nice to see Philip Hunt on this team. I saw him in that ESPN2 game and he had a motor on him. I haven't heard much about the others except for Dillard.

This is a great idea. If we had done this last year we may have drafted Avery.

The Texans are known to sign a lot of Colorado State guys in case you haven't noticed.

I think the rule from the NFL on this type of regional workout is that the players either have to attend college or reside within a certain mileage of the team.

I really like this idea and I would like to see local talent being drafted by us. I'm really interested in Phillip Hunt as of late and I would love to see him on our roster.

Take a guy like Hunt or Orion Martin on the second day if you want somebody coming off the right edge on the LT.

Or take Steinkhuler (DT) and put him on the edge if you want a bigger guy.
He got the blood line.

These guys are less expensive, they all look like football players, and there's a good chance they can turn into good-to-decent NFL guys.

Low risk, decent to very good return, IMO!

.

Half of this board read through the names desperately hoping that Vince Young would be one of the invited players. It's a sad day for them. They simply can't understand why we'd invite 15 Houston area football players to workout if he's not included. It just doesn't make any sense! It's Vince freakin' Young and he's from Houston!! Man, Kubiak is such an moron!!!!! I guess he's never gonna learn anything about football or QBs! Dang it. Oh well, I guess I'm a Tennessee Titan fan.

Oh, that reminds me, do you think we can sign Ricky Williams to backup Steve Slaton?

Is there a point to this post or are you just trying to drag all the VY jock huggers into a pointless squabble?

Yeah, lots of residual anger... So, I enjoy occasionally taking some shots. Living in Austin, I have to find ways to cope.

I am a little surprised that the workout didn't include Sebastian Vollmer. He is definitely somebody I would be interested in as a developmental type player.

He has all of the physical measurables that one looks for in an Offensive Tackle. He justs needs some coaching up to be able to play in the NFL.

A year or two of practice squad and he could be a valuable addition to the Texans OLine, that was gotten on the cheap.
