Defensive tackle B.J. Raji, whose draft stock has soared over the past six months, had a positive drug test at February's combine, NFL team sources have told SI.com. It's unknown to SI.com which drug triggered the positive result, but NFL scouts were made aware before the 2008 season that Raji had tested positive for marijuana during his time at Boston College.

NFL teams will receive the official list of those who tested positive in Indianapolis later this month, and Raji's name will be on it, according to a source who attended last week's owners meetings in California.

Brian Murphy, Chief Operating Officer of Athletes First, which represents Raji, told SI.com: "We will not comment on rumors from unnamed sources. I do know that B.J. has been one of the hardest workers and nicest individuals that we at Athletes First represent. There is no doubt that he will be an invaluable addition to an NFL team both on the field as a player and in the community as a role model."

Raji declined comment when reached by SI.com.

I doubt he drops, and there isn't anyone slated to go in the first round that I'd move up for.

Look for a lot of the second and third rounders to turn out better than the first rounders from this years crop.

I think he easily drops.......if this wasn't his first positive test, he might be able to get the benefit of the doubt, but it's his second, which is going to scare alot of teams.

I think if Houston wants him, he'll now be there at 15.......but two positive tests even scare me.

14 teams should absolutely turn their eyes away from this shameful, despicable person! You teams ahead of us make me proud and don't you dare select him. I mean it. hehehe, snicker and "At # 15 the Houston Texans select B.J. Raji!" Thank you Jesus!

Smoking the marijuana in college has no effect on whether or not a team selects you. Point and case: Amobi Okoye, Houston Texans, selected 10th overall only 2 drafts back.

Lets bow our heads and prey to the football gods this comes true.

He's way overrated. I didn't have him as a first round prospect prior to this. Now, I will give him the benefit of the doubt on the weed because I stayed with Talib last year. However, Talib was a first round talent. Raji isn't IMO. He also sat out the entire 2007 season because of academic issues. Wouldn't touch him in the draft, in any round. Period.

This case and Amobi's case aren't even comparable...

First of all, Amobi didn't fail a drug test, he was asked during the interview process at the combine and he answered honestly that he did experiment with Marijauna while in college. (no failed drug tests...he put everything out in the open himself) Teams appreciated that honesty and also took into consideration that he was a 16 year old kid in college.

B.J. Raji never admitted to smoking Marijuana......he just flat out flunked a drug test during his biggest job interview of his life and this was after teams were warned about another flunked drug test a year before.

Raji's and Amobi's cases are apples and oranges, especially if Raji lied about his drug use during the interview process only to have the flunked drug test come out later.

Working?
This guys stock is going to plummet.

He has tested positive for drugs twice. To show up at the combine and test positive? Thats just plain stupid.

He also missed an entire season because of academic problems and has had problems with his coaches.

A lot of major red flags

If you're Raji, you've got to ask yourself, "WHAT WERE YOU THINKIN', FOOL!!!!" You're FOREWARNED of the testing....................FOOL!!!!!!!!

I don't think he'll fall to 15, if he falls at all it'll only be 1 or 2 spots, if he did fall to 15 though we'd be fools not to take him. Raji is a game changer/difference maker that would anchor our line for years to come.

Not enough red flags to pass on a top five talent at 15.

Well, he fits their profile....and everyone but you has him rated as the best DT in a very weak class. Which means obviously......he's going to go much higher than where you have him ranked there YTF. And Talib....was prety much a train wreck as a starter last year.

There's a point when trying to be different becomes just silly.

IMO, the year of academic ineligibility took him off (or at least slid him down) the Texans board.

I haven't a clue if all these test results are legit or not. If they are, I have no idea what the Texans will do at 15. Heck, even before these rumors I didn't really have any ideas.

Dear Lord, please allow the Texans to trade back in the 1st round.

I respect YTFs opinions, even regarding Raji. It's not like he's the only one that gives him a 2nd round grade, I know Drew Boylhart has him as the 2nd best tackle and rated as a 2nd rounder (Jerry is a 1st). Obviously, a prospects grade doesn't necessarily correlate to where he will get drafted.

I've been a fan of Raji's and a big proponent of selecting him at 15, even when the general concensus was he was a late 1st rounder. I still think he goes before us, probably to the Raiders now? No jokes, but it fills a need. I love the combination of his ability to both pass rush and stop the run... but I do recognize that he has a bust factor, possibly higher than other players in the top 10-15. I actually think Jerry is a safer pick but doesn't have the same combination of skillset and is fairly similar to the DTs we have on the roster.

If Raji is down on our board for whatever reason... same with Andre Smith, I hope to the football gods they get selected ahead of us.

Yeah, but I am convinced his puffing in college led to his down year last season.:lightning:

Him testing positive while at BC doesn't sound right...
I knew something didn't sound right about him testing positive in college:

The NCAA has established drug testing for all Div. I and II schools. If athletes test positive for drugs during the regular season or post-season, players lose a year of eligibility.

Ratliff said Div. I and II athletes aren't tested for marijuana during the regular season, but are in championship play.

When I played ball I was one of the lucky ones selected to give the NCAA my pee. I smoked marijuana and my test came back clean. That's because they don't test for weed, they test for steroids and stuff.

Now, if you are caught with weed on you the school will probably test you though and they may issue their own form of discipline.

Working?
DT is the hardest position to draft in the top half of the 1st round. It statistically has the highest chance of producing a bust.

This guy has all the intangibles wrong. I would be really hesitant about drafting him. I don't think he'd handle millions of dollars in a good way

But he has a lot of the TANGIBLES right such as stopping the run and collapsing the pocket back into the QB. He had school problems but came back the next year. He took 2 summer classes instead of 3. Let's not beat the kid up over that.

There's a point when trying to be different becomes just silly.
My stance hasn't changed. I spent a ton of time watching film, and he's not a first round talent to me. I don't care if my view of a player is too different for you or not. I don't have a single DT in this draft class worthy of a 1st round grade. I think this is a terrible DT class at the top.

This entire post is unfounded. And for that, I'm going to make you look like a complete fool. I thought we had moved past this pete. He fits their profile? Koller ran with two smaller DT's in Buffalo, guys very similar to what we already have as far as to the style of play. He may be the top DT in this class (not to me) but that doesn't mean he is a first round talent. He may go higher than where I think he should, but that doesn't mean that it's a good choice or a bad choice at this point, pete.

Now, to the really good part of your post. Talib. I'd really, really, really advice you to not run your mouth about him when you have no clue of how he played. He was a train wreck as a starter? He only started 2 games pete. Aside from that, he played in 15 games, meaning that the Bucs defensive staff was comfortable enough to bring him off the bench and onto the field. Now, that is just one part of that statement, so let's delve into the other. You claim "train wreck" and I claim "moron". Talib, as a rookie, who only started 2 games, recorded 4 interceptions for 32 returned yards. Talib, as a rookie, who only started 2 games, recorded broke up 9 other passes. What do those numbers mean? It means he would have tied for the Texans interception lead this past year, or he would have doubled the next two behind Reeves.

Now. I'm going to leave it at that. Call me out again pete.

Ah, Football!
Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports Boston College DL B.J. Raji said he has been assured he did not fail a drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine. "The biggest thing is trying to figure out how this started," Raji said. "I couldn't understand how this rumor became such a big splash in the media when there was no evidence - there was no substance to believe it. The last couple days, I was just trying to figure out: Who? What? Basically, why?. … Now, I'm happy the truth is out. Obviously, it's not going to be as big of a splash as the negative part. But as long as the coaches and the decision-makers know what is true, then I don't need to be concerned with everybody else."

Down year all the way to the bank.

I think it would take a whole lot of ganja to put someone in enough of a haze that they play football poorly. Especially someone as massive and strong as him. Look, I'm a firm believer in puff, puff, pass-your-drug-tests-that-you-know-are-coming but he'd have to be ripping bowl after bowl on the sidelines (basically non-stop all day) for me to believe it had any affect whatsoever on his play.

Looks to me like NFLDraftBible.com is a load of garbage. I've never been to their site and now I don't think I ever will.

To any lawyers, can Matthews, Cushing, Raji, Davis, and Harvin file any charges against these clowns for dragging their names through the mud without evidence? And even if they can, would it be worth it?
