Reggie McNeal

Holden135

Waterboy
I was at the bar the other night with a friend and a friend of his was in town. Turns out the guy is an Aggie recruiter. He was telling me that some NFL scouts come to College Station to do some early scouting on Reggie McNeal. They had him run 5 40 yard dashes and his worst one was 4.3 flat. That is rediculous. I know the odds of Houston going for him would be slim but with that speed and the cannon of an arm he has, i think he will turn out to be a fine nfl qb. He has no character flaws and also has a great attitude and personality from what i was told. His only downside is that he looks to run a little too early but that could be changed. He is also a little slim. The recruiter was joking about Reggie's ankels being smaller than his wrists.

you know everyone looks at UT's vincent young as the prime running QB in the nation...i've seen both QB's up close and i'll admitt McNeal is a lot better....he's mechanics are leaps and bounds better than youngs...i think young has a future in the nfl as a reciever...mcneal's future is as a QB...him running a 4.3 doesn't surprise me...if he was on a better team he'd be getting more comparissons to mike vick

brad smith is another big XII QB who fits the running QB model...next year is gonna be the year for QB's, OT's, and DT's

Coming from an Aggie, after McNeal's first three seasons, he's shown some flashes of brilliance but he still makes alot of poor decisions/poor throws. He tries to do too much, looking to run when it's an obvious passing situation etc. Not saying he couldn't eventually be effective in the NFL, just saying I don't think he has the polish or feel for the game yet to be worthy of, say, a first round choice. I could see him going in the third round just for his athletic ability and good arm though.

right well with the exception of terrence murphy who has he really had to throw to...i think with a solid senior year he could make it into the 1st round just on physical ability...get him the recievers that silly sims had a few years ago at UT and we would be talking about the most potent offense in college history

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Slowest time in the 40 was a 4.3 flat..... Are you serious?

More like his fastest time would be a 4.39.

Hell if Reggie run a sub 4.2 forty, then Michael Vick runs a 4.0 flat forty.

First of all Sip fan, you ever seen Reggie run, so hold off being an Aggie hater.

I was at the OU/Aggie game when R.C. Slocum threw him to the lions his freshman year. I think Reggie has been expected to perform like he did in that game everytime he hit the field after that, and the next year it was horrible. His arm is amazing, so if he waits in the pocket a little longer, he could be a stud in the NFL.

Does anyone know why he raises his head an looks out below his face mask when he screens defenses?

I can't wait to see him play this year, I dont think it will be fair pulling him out of NCAA FB 2006(PS2) after this year, he is amazing on there.

Sounds great but I would rather take a QB that can read Defenses like Keanu Reeves in the Matrix vs. a QB that runs a 4.3 40. In the NFL QB`s are to hand off or pass to Players who run 4.3`s. They will last a long time in the NFL. IE: Look at all the hits Vick takes in a single game? His days are numbered in the NFL! NFL Defenses are to fast! Having a QB run a 4.3 40 is Fool`s Gold.

Dont get me wrong, Reggie McNeal is very good college quarterback, and he gets no help on offense. However, the thought that he runs a sub 4.3 forty is absurd.

Young might be able to be a QB if he stays at Texas through his senior year. If he comes out after his junior year, he will definitely be a WR.

mcneal made enough strides from sophmore to junoir year to suggest he can make an equivical leap junoir to senoir year. he averaged 8.4 yds a completion and completed nearly 60% of his passes. he also broke the longest passing streak without an INT in the big 12 (something like 181 attempts). if anyone really watched the games last year they would have noticed that he broke his stigma of run first, throw second. the only concern IMO about reggie in the pro's is his size. he needs about 15-20 more pounds, which would probably sacrifice some mobility but would better protect him from the inevitable trips into the turf. watch for reggie to make a run at the heisman this year and a possible big 12 south conference title to reside in college station when it's all said and done :thumbup

When covering the draft this weekend, ESPN had a bit on Tom Brady (6th rounder). He ran a 5.2 forty yet Jaws did a piece on how Brady is one of the most mobile QBs in the league (as far as knowing how to move in the pocket). And he's right.

Knowing how to move in the pocket, stepping up, moving aside to avoid the rush is and always will be more important than clocking a fast 40 time.

McNeal was a state qualifier in the 100m in highschool. He clocked a 10.3 sec 100M so his speed is legit. At the recent pro-day he averaged 4.31 and ran as fast as 4.26 on some watches. The only down side to his running ability is that he does not have the change of direction or power of a Vince Young or a Brad Smith. If he gets in the open field though, there are very few players that can run with him. Another big concern is going to be his durability. He's probably only played about 4 games where he was actually healthy. Last season, he played every game with a cast on his non throwing hand and he also suffered a shoulder injury against Oklahoma which kept him out of the 4th quarter. The kid is tough and plays through injuries but you have to wonder if he'll be able to do that in the NFL.

He ran 3 40's, I think they were 4.26, 4.28 and 4.31. I'm pretty sure these were timed by NFL scouts.
Reggie is pretty good at reading defenses. He only had like 4 interceptions this year, and from what I can remember only 1 was off of a bad throw. Some of the others were when the ball bounced off of the receiver to the DB and a 4th down throw away. His only problem is that he is fragile, but he is pretty tough. He played half of 2003 with some sort of shoulder tear, and nearly the whole 2004 season with a broken hand or thumb.

he can fly when running straight but when he changes directions he isn't as fast as vick or young, their for making him look slower. i would say they are all about the same in the open field until vick trips. i have heard that he is the fastest player at tamu

Im sorry, but on the field he dont look like a 4.29 40. Watch tapes of Vick, and then watch tapes of him, you'll see the difference easy.

i would say that is because he is a long strider, like andre, as apposed to vick who takes shorter quicker steps which helps him change directions faster.

As much as the Aggies will run this year, and they will be good doing it, his passing should be great do to his amazing PA passes, he makes those look so easy. If you look at TAMU schedule, some predictions are saying possibly 8-0 in the first eight games with OU, TT, and TU at the end to finish it off. If they can win one of those last three games, and Reggie improves from last year( 58.1%, 2791 YDS, 14 TD, 4 INT), your looking at around 63% comp, 3500 YDS, 20 TD, 5 INT, he may have a good chance at running for the Heisman.

By the way, at 718 YDS, 4.8 AVG, and 8 TD's rushing is nice too.

Remember that the Aggies have a 6 7 TE now too, thats going to help the pass attack.

Late in the 4th quarter against KSU last year at Kyle Field, McNeal turned the corner on an option and out ran the KSU defense for the game sealing touchdown. It's a pretty good example of his speed in the open field. A corner had the angle on him and a safety broke down in the middle of the field to make the tacke. McNeal simply turned on the jets and blew right between them for a 60 yrd TD. It's true that he doesn't have that great cut back ability, but he's still fairly elusive. There will be many games next year where he is the fastest player on the field. In order for a realistic shot at some serious post season awards, he's going to have to improve his touchdown production while repeating the low interception numbers he posted this past year. It should be interesting to see how he develops into his senior year. Alot of it will depend on the play of the Aggie OL, which has been spotty at best the past few years. I think McNeal and Young of Texas will be the two most exciting players in the nation next year. :hmmm:

I was at that game. When that happened the saftey just froze, looked like he was going to be sick and just gave up. All we needed was a first down but Reggie did alittle better than that.

Does the Heisman still have anything to do with being the best college football player? Is it possible to win if you aren't the QB, WR, or RB from a top 5 team? If not, he is screwed.

Either way, the Aggies will be in the top 5 anyways.

You know that is so true, last year the best two players in the country were Adrian Peterson and Reggie Bush; Alex Smith was unbelievable in the system in Utah too. Its like the Heisman is now the award for the most reconized player on the best team in the country. But, you have to be a Junior or Senior, heaven forbid if you are a soph or frosh and the best player in the nation.

I wish him the best, it could be a great season just to watch what he can do on his fourth year in college.
